Never played, but I just popped in to say that you shouldn't be so concerned with what people consider weird or nerdy. If it's fun, go for it!

But Nacho, if the Israels have killed thousands of civilians in Gaza, and Hamas has killed a handful of civilians in Israel, why are you using that quote to support Israel?

And no, it's not exactly the intentions that count, it's the actions. It would be a pretty darn strange world if you punished people for their thoughts and opinions and not their actions.

If someone throws a rock through your window, you don't bulldoze their house; and furthermore, if they hide in another house, you don't bulldoze that house too.

Truthfully, I'm completely appalled by some arguments used by Israel-supporters. "But we warn them before we bomb!" Wow, thank you, if only CIA had been warned before terrorists flew into the World Trade Center, it would have been all fine and dandy (oh wait, they were warned).

Lastly, Israel's attack is, as usual, counter-productive, since it will only increase the support for Hamas.

Sorry, but I can't take this poem seriously. It feels like something South Park would write to mock goths.

My advice is that you write something shorter, without rhymes (because, frankly, the rhymes in this poem don't work), and without all the stereotypical emo-jargon.

How about a simplistic reflection on something/someone in your surroundings, a tree, a house, a friend, a family member. Just stack some adjectives, see what happens.

By the thread title I thought this was about some new maritime AGS-meeting.

I enjoy freeing animals from those terrible conditions by eating them

So you buy them alive and bite them to death?

Any movement made by the "Good guys" that undermines that "image" of "paper tiger" has proven to be shocking to the enemy, such as attacks to South Lebanon or Gaza strips without taking care of the international  reaction, or publishing the images of the navigations of Abu Ghraib. Hizbulá was shocked and made no further movement after the Israeli campaign in South Lebanon last year. Same happened in the Hamas HQ with the campaing happening this very moments. The level of attacks of the insurgency to american soldiers decreased dramatically after the photos of (the person I consider, IMHO, a whole idiot) Lynndie England were published. The "bad guys" thought "Wow! They can attack without previous warning, without taking into consideration what the people thinks" or "Wow... a 1,50 m. bitch is able, in that army, to do that to our soldiers... We must be carefulll with that people"

To me this passage seems very confused. The "wow...etc" argument seems extra contrived.
I'm disinclined to believe that those photos had any positive effects whatsoever, but instead increased the anti-americanism with some thousand percent. As with the American presence in middle-east in general, I'm quite sure they contributed to an increase in fundamentalism and support for terrorists.

Suicide-bombers don't really get cautious or affraid; they get angry and then they die.

I like the police quest one, where you have to adjust the sight of your gun, or you'll get helplessly stuck two hours later.
Oh wait, wrong thread.

A good puzzle I really liked - although I've only read it in the design document, and am uncertain whether it was actually implemented, is the Grim Fandango puzzle where you convince a retired taxi driver to drive you by directing a fan to his head, so he'll remember how nice it is to have the wind flapping his ears...

There is a really fun episode in Space Quests 6, where you escape a jail cell by building a replica of yourself using various fruits.

In Simon the Sorcerer 2, there's an loan office that catapults rocks at houses whose residents haven't paid due mortgage. You need to enter a certain house, so you take a letter with their address on and put in the tray of late mortgage payers.

It reminds me of Fantastic Contraption, which is also a fun and fairly addictive way to spend some extra half an hour.

Yeah, I have to say it was fairly obvious, even though I'm not into magic myself. I think there was too much movement going on under the hand that was supposed to grab the card.
I guess the effect when you made it look like the card dropped to the table was nice.

I think it's quite impossible to make a tutorial for an isolated object such as a tree, without taking into account that trees come in hundreds of different shapes and colours, and furthermore their appearences depend heavily on the environment.
You can't really present one model tree and expect it to fit anywhere. A tree can be a jumble mess of twisted branches, another can be just a huge expanse of foliage.

This demonstrates precisely how time travel can be mis-used, and why the forums must be destroyed, after we straighten all of this out.

This explains why I saw myself in front of the computer this morning, posting some questions about RoomEdit.

I could gladly host a Swittens anytime. An "island revisited" kind of meeting. Complete with jellyfish, archery and canceroids. And beautiful Swedish girls.

So, did you have a happy winter solstice celebration on Sunday 21st, Nacho? :P

It also depends what kind of authority we'd have. If people were forced to listen to us and follow our recommendations, I think we could accomplish quite a lot. Like the importance of eating c-vitamin (and with this we would save entire fleets from scurvy), and hygienic stuff like cleaning your hands before you perform surgery on your patients...
The problem with above ideas is that they're really hard to explain and persuade people into, since you need to introduce the idea of germs and other invisible stuff. Consider the hard time Semmelweiss had convincing the doctors that if you first perform autopsys on dead bodies, you might want to wash your hands before you deliver babies over at the maternity ward.
And the idea of bringing fruit juices on board ships has been suggested several times through the history of seafaring, by really acclaimed physicians and scientists, but the skepticism and carelessness among the powers that be always made it hard to implement changes.

With that in mind, it would be easier to impress with tangible contraptions and dangerous weapons.

I also fit into 5/6, even though my efforts in #2 are quite negligible, as opposed to monumental, like in Progz's case.

I wish to thank CJ, and AGS for being the best Intraweb community out there :)

One question from someone who knows 0 about psychology... Does a bad person necesarilly have to be "something"? (Being a sociopath, had a difficult childhood, having "less hormon of whatever glandula", etc...)

Can' t bad people just be bad people?

***I admit it's totally off topic, and I am not refering at all to Meowster' s case...***

It all depends on where you want to place the border between free will and determinism, really. You can always argue that social and genetical conditions govern all aspects of our personality.
Another philosphical question is the meaning of "bad". Loving and caring towards your friends and family, but selfish and inconsiderate towards strangers? All bad? Feeling an urge to torture people, but never indulging in it? Acting like a saint throughout your life, but only because you believe God will reward you in afterlife, just good or selfish?

But even in a merely psychological perspective; you probably won't turn downright, altogether bad without a reason. If a person can choose, they'd choose to be good.

I'm gonna probably receive some hate and flake for saying this but I feel feel this needs to be said. Meowster, your entire story seems incredibly one sided and exaggerated. No one is perfect. Most of us all have parents that did stuff while they were raising us that they later. It used to be perfectly socially acceptable to beat your kids as long as no permanent damage occurred (not that its a good thing fuck no).  It seems to me your dad's been crying out for help for a long time but he didn't know how to say it. I know it may seem like he deserves his situation but that attitude makes you no better than your dad. You can still make it right.

What exactly gives you the right to call the testimony of another person, whom you know absolutely nothing of, one-sided and exaggerated? Let us who know Meowster better make such judgments.
What makes you believe her father was not a sociopath? Such destructive people exist, you know. One of my closest friends during childhood had the exact same situation. It's not unique to have sociopaths/psychopaths in your family. It's not a ghost or a troll or something you can choose not to believe in; these people are very real.

Quote
I also question why in his 20 year stint you never attempted to arrange a intervention. My dad got hooked on cocaine and heroine from when I turned 10 to when I turned 19. After a family intervention he went into rehab and he's been clean ever since.

Jesus, get off your high horse. Are you blaming the victim now? I'm sure your brother the psychologist (?) would be proud of you. Just because something worked out in your family doesn't mean it has to work with everyone. Grow some sense, really.

Quote
Also, your dad isn't a sociopath. I just brought this to my brother who is a psychiatrist and he confirmed that.

Another miraculously arrogant statement. I'm surrounded by people with varying degrees of psychological expertise, including my father who's been a psychologist for some 25 years, and I challenge the entire mindset of you and your brother, and I hope nobody ever consults any of you.
God day.

This question was addressed in THHGTTG (or however you wish to abbreviate it) when Arthur found himself in some sort of backward society, far from the rest of civilisation. As he prepared to boast with his high-tech thinking and advanced knowledge, he realised he didn't even know how a ballpoint pen worked. It turned out that the only thing he could impress these cavemen with was how to make really good sandwiches. So he became the sandwich god.
