We had quite the discussions, I recall.  But that was MAGS, a languid and tranquil competition, where the hours seem to draw out like long summer days.  In OROW there will be no time for words -only action!

OK, so the problem must be "oilfield".  Here in Canada our oilfield is called the "Tar Sands", so scrambling (confusing) rog + tar + sands = dragon star

I must say I'm looking forward to the output of Team Party Wagon, although I think the ride might go a little more smoothly with kconan in the driver's seat....

Sold!  Although I do feel bad about leaving MiteWiseacreLives alone on the dance floor with all those Euro-girls....  Hopefully he'll pull through.

I should mention that I've got about 4 hours tops to work on this per day (see my forum profile stats for details ).  I hope that's not a deal-breaker.

He he....  I've spent a lot of time this summer tying up loose ends with regard to MAGS, but I haven't started anything new.  First there was the voiced version of Fridge Follies, then a whole whack of walkcycles and extra art for a revamped version of Oceanspirit Danish.  Next week I intend to devote my few spare hours to OROW, but after that I think I'll be revisiting the Hotel Exotica once more.  So stay tuned!

[Fortnightly Writing Competition!]

Welcome super scribes and hilarious hacks of all hues and hemispheres, to the most famous and prestigious writing contest in the history of mankind!  The one, the only, Fortnightly Writing Competition!   Your topic, should you choose to accept it, is:

Lifeboat



When there is nothing but a postage-stamp sized bubble of safety between you and oblivion, people tend to get territorial.  They tend to give in to their basic, basest survival instincts.  They tend to get suspicious, nasty, devious and sneaky.  Or maybe the ordeal brings out the best in them: heroism, altruism, extreme creativity?  Whatever the case, being crammed into a very confined place with fellow survivors is a certain formula for high-drama with even higher stakes.  Do not confine yourselves to a literal (littoral?) lifeboat: any confined space of refuge will do.  It could be an escape pod in space, or a bomb-shelter on earth, or something so daring and bold that I wouldn't be able to think of it if I scrunched up my eyes for ten minutes and grunted at the effort.   The only solid requirements of your story are:

1) A place or vehicle of refuge from certain or probable death
2) More than one initial occupant
3) Drama!

Deadlines have been extended due to OROW falling on our natural deadline, plus lots of people make big non-internet plans at the end of summer.  Official deadline is Sunday September 6, 2015, which should give you lots of time to write, or at least lots of time to procrastinate.

Your work will be judged on the following criteria

Best Character: Most believable or captivating or magnetic or unique: could be main character or supporting role
Best Scenario: Replacing our usual Background World/Setting category: who had the most creative scenario, or the most vividly described predicament?
Most Suspenseful: Replacing our Atmosphere category, which story left you at the edge of your seat, yearning and dreading to find out what happens next?
Best Writing Style: The technical art of combining words in clever or gripping ways.
Cleverest Ending: Sometimes the best suspense leads to a disappointing conclusion.  Which story had the most satisfying ending?

I think if more voters had turned out you'd have had me, kconan.  I thought yours was the purplest nurplest piece out there, and it had me laughing quite a bit.

As for me, thanks for all the votes folks!  Although truthfully I'm beginning to feel less like a struggling writer and more like an institution these days....   Anyway, I'll rack my brain for a novel topic and get back to you shortly.

NOW this is getting interesting!    You need like a scorecard to sort out the merry-go-round of relationships.   Let's see if I've got this straight: so MiteWiseacreLives is trying to woo Ponch, who has been secretly courting kconan, who was openly flirting with Baron, who has been stringing along poor Wyz, who secretly wanted to dance with Dualnames, who is possibly pretending to be French.    I'm not sure how cat fits into this sordid web of highschool heartbreak, but regardless I think we've already got the basis of a nice little teen romance drama.  Man, you really couldn't make this stuff up if you tried!

I still think MiteWiseacreLives can win Ponch over.  Keep trying, dude!  Bovines love persistence!

Me, I'm torn between Wyz & kconan (and this little French-connection thing I've got going on the side via PM ).  I really need to have my partner picked out within the next week.  Does anyone have a foolproof yet relatively bloodless way to choose between potential mates?  Thanks in advance for the dating advice,
