Nice!  Hermes Conrad, watch out!

Nice backgrounds, but the main character needs a bit of work.... ;)

Perhaps if you imported him at 320x200 he would look bigger (i.e. more to the scale of the backgrounds)?  But if he's just a holder graphic I guess it's ok.  I'd love to help with something -especially as the main character shares my name! -but sadly my own project must come first.  Best of luck!

I have this fatal expectation that production on this game might be suspended again.....

Not to be discouraging: I'm looking forward to the finished product(s).  ;D

Congrats Niel, that's a really smooth animation!  I like the little details, like the blinks and the way the cannon budges slightly to accept its "shell".  Look forward to the next comp!

....Wouldn't those also be your three bottom/most detested AGS-made games you've played? ::)

Maybe people in their busy lives are too busy juggling priorities to remember the ol' Animation Competition....

How serious?

Last year I started a treeplanting simulator which was meant to train people how to treeplant effectively.  It had a slew of variables that you had to balance, like dehydration and energy loss (curable by taking strategic breaks where you would drink water and eat food).  You also had to plant trees in mineral soil, which sometimes required screefing (removing surface vegetation), in holes not to deep, and at an appropriate density (in this case a tree every two steps).    At the end of each level you would be assessed on how you performed.  It was meant to be quite involved, but I only ever constructed the one level.  I found the complexity of treeplanting didn't really suit a keybased "game" very well (remembering B for screef and V for testing the ground and C for jump, etc. got very confusing and wasn't intuitive at all).  Anyway, it stands sort of as a work abandoned at this point.
Having said that, have a look if you're interested:

Spacebar is plant/unplant, Enter is pause (for food/drink) and if you plant the cache stop you end the round.  Movement is keybased (i.e. right, left, up, down).  There is a brief instructional text file, but it probably wouldn't make much sense to someone completely foreign to treeplanting.  Essentially your mission is to plant trees (spacebar) in open soil, every two steps across the landscape, unless there's an obstacle like a rock or a stump.  Then push spacebar while standing on the cache and see how you did!  PM me if you have any questions.

Well, the really interesting things in the UK seem to draw the tourists -I know, crazy!  But the good thing about the UK is that the weather is so notoriously unpredictable for half the year that it tends to keep the tourists away.  As long as you don't go from June-August you will avoid the crowds in most of the country.  Except London, that place is crazy, but then I'm a small town fellow.  But as I said the weather is unpredictable:  I've gone to England in March and April and had relatively good weather (in April we did a bicycle trip and didn't commit suicide, so it couldn't have been that bad ;) )  If you must go during tourist season I would recommend staying off the beaten path -buy a bicycle and a good lock or rent a moped, stick to the one lane hedge-lined roads and see where you end up.

Well, I guess the time for moving your hearts has expired....
Two paticipants: bit of a heart-break, but I'll get over it.
Now allow me to get to the heart of the matter (OK I'll stop!): Let's hand out some hardware!

First Place: Twirly!   Allow me to present to you the heart of gold.  I especially liked how your heart-flasher did a bit of teasing before hand -Rwao!

Second Place: Neelhound!    You've come a long way in the few short months since you started posting animations!  Is that fluid movement I see??? :o  Keep up the good work!

Oh yeah, I kinda gender-tailored your respective awards -let me know if you'd prefer yours modified.  ::)

So now I guess it's up to Twirly to start up a new comp -look forward to it!

Wow that place is nice -Good work Quintaros!
The distance from Toronto -or indeed anywhere really -makes it the perfect getaway, but unfortunately it also makes getting to it an expensive hassle.  I'm willing to rent a big van for the week so that we can all get around reasonably cheaply.  I only live about 1/2 hour from the Toronto (Pearson Int'l) airport, so it would simply be a matter of arranging a rendezvous time and then driving everybody out to Bayfield.  This would also facilitate daytrips.  I'd like to see the popularity of such a measure -If everyone is renting their own car or driving with friends then there's really no point....

Swinging by Hamilton Int'l airport would add about two hours (in total, there & back), but I wouldn't rule it out if there's demand for it.

Quotethe most obvious is unfortunately to use a different (supported) key instead

Ah, I should have explained that.  I'm working with a kid that needs to learn how to type, so we kind of need the ; (although I suppose it's not of the highest priority, it will definitely speed her up when she's typing out scripts!).  I'll try adapting that one bit of script to On_Key_Pressed tonight and report back.

LATER THAT DAY: Well it really didn't take that much effort to work around the problem in the global script, and the whole thing now works perfectly so I guess it's a non-issue.  Thanks anyway! 8)

I've got a microproject on the go in an attempt to learn AGS 2.72.

The good news: everything but one works perfectly!

The one thing: you have to type the key ";" which the internet says corresponds to ASCII code 59.
This isn't in the ASCII code table supplied in the AGS help file, but keycode==59 in the global script On_Key_Press does link to that key, because I don't get the wrong key sound (i.e. keycode!=59 PlaySound) when I hit it (while every other key, including keys such as ", ] / + that are also not on the AGS ASCII table do make the sound).  However, when I attempt to use (IsKeyPressed (59) ==1) in my room script it doesn't run the script (while the exact same script with IsKeyPressed(65) or (32) etc. work just fine).

Any thoughts as to why this is and/or how I can make it work?

I guess I must have assumed that the laws of physics don't apply to supernatural beings.  Either that or I took the silicon for granted  :-\ .

Tick, Tick, Tick.......

 :o!!!!!
The plot and characters for this game are very unique -I look forward to playing the finished game.

One minor point -not that I'm a boob expert or anything, but Succubus' melons seem a LOT bigger in profile than they do when she's facing you.

...to which you respond "then don't let her face you."  Buh dum-ba ;)

I know, I know......
You'd love to enter the animation competition -you really would- but your significant other is pestering you to spend time with them.  But I ask you: "What better way to impress your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/ex/1-900-dirty-talker than to make them their very own animated valentine for that very special day?"  And of course you can post it here too and maybe win yourself some internet glory.

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Animation Competition.

The rules:

A sprite is supplied, with a theme.
Participants must use the given sprite for their animation.
Each competition will last 11 days.
The starter of each competition will decide on the winner.
The winner, who will decide on the next competition's theme, must also supply a sprite.

The sprite:
It's a heartshaped box full of.....well, you show me.  That trench coat could be hiding any number of surprises.....
I've included the original heart for those of you who don't know what a heart looks like -this exercise can be particularly instructive if you fall into that category.

Legal Mumbo Jumbo:  I'll be doing the judging early on the 17th, but if you're going to make good use of your sprite I must emphasize the need to get it done by the 14th.  Knowing me there will be trophies, and all participants can expect a commemorative badge of some sort just for entering.

Good Luck!

Wow!  I'd like to thank the academy for the nomination, my girlfriend Jen for her support and her insistance that the fish not get turned into sushi, and above all I'd like to thank beer for its thankless dedication to the cause.
Congratulations to Twirly for an excellent entry -the plot lines in this competition are really getting quite complex!  It's like we're making up for the loss of the old caption contest....  Anyway, this has caught me a bit off guard but I'll have another sprite & competition up and running by this evening.

Well, this was kind of rushed because I left it to the last moment, and there is a glaring error towards the end when the pixels don't line up, but I have to go buy beer and watch a hockey game so this is what you get:

:P

EDIT:  Well the beer helped my mental processes (as per usual) and I realized that all the distortion was from the background being mysteriously missized.  Here's the fixed version:

;D

So let's make a competition of this Competition, shall we?  I'm going to start work on my entry this evening.
