Snake, LGM, and the others you mention have contributed a lot, or are working on some really promising games.. But you're right in many ways that a lot of oldies may not want to admit. The reason the people we really like and care about don't post here anymore is because they're busy working on something. The forums take a backseat to the games. And that's the way it should be, even if we're not always happy with it.

QuoteAnd I can't remember what games you, Ben, are attached to
Well, I've attached myself like a suckerfish to a few games (Pleurghburg and some other Gaspop projects), but I've been too lazy to finish anything of my own except for the legend known as RAYMONDS KEYS...

..

I guess I need to take longer breaks from this place  :P

I'd say use the first one, and add more detail and shading. Those will improve your background much more than blurring the lines ever will..

That's what I'm doing (and what I've BEEN doing occasionally for a few months). And it's not just because of the newbies. It's the oldies too. I don't really feel like I can talk to people here anymore. The oldies here (including people like Goldmund who arrived long after me) have gotten bitter, and don't discuss the same things on this forum that they used to on the EZBoards. Would an exclusive, old-guard forum solve this problem? Maybe. I think we should try the idea and see what happens.. I honestly don't know what to expect, so I won't bother trying to predict.

I don't think it'd work. As I've said, this forum doesn't revolve around games or status, it revolves around getting to know one another.

But this forum DOES revolve around games and status. Status comes from producing or contributing to good games. Why do you think Chrille and Phil Reed and Roy Lazarovich are legends around here? It's certainly not because they post here every day.

I'm a bit put off by the 1337 design of the home page.. It does have some nice features, though. I might try it out later. Only problem is I don't know any Basic or Pascal..

I think I'll wait for someone else to try it first, just in case.

Obviously there's some irony in Helm's post. But that doesn't make it any less insulting or any more rational. The snobbery and disrespect is still real.

I ususlly ignore the little tantrums people throw here.

And I'll probably wish I hadn't said that.

Well, he used Poser, so it couldn't have been too difficult.

If you asked Chrille for his PDA sprites, I don't think he would be jumping in joy.

Do you think he'd be any happier if you ripped off his sprites yourself?

Bad idea.

Yep. I almost went blind reading that blurry print.  :P

That's quite cool, though. What was the rest of the article about?

Spoiler

You mean the board, right? I tried several combinations trying to tie the rope to the board, but got nothing. Stupid text parsers :b

Freaky.

It's really nice so far. But how do you cross the big chasm in the cave?

Were 3 and 4 ever available for the PC? I can't seem to find anything later than 2e.

Maybe I'll just have to go and find me one of them emmulators.

You and your damn luck  :P

EDIT: I'd kill you and Rode and marry her.

So it looks like a doggie?

Actually, I think now if you start a new game a simple invenory GUI is created along with it, with all the basics (scroll buttons, etc) already done.

Shirt and pants are too dark. Otherwise it's good..

Nice.

I think the shadow on the face is too light though. You should edit the palette and make the shadows for the face, hair, and shirt the same colors as the outlines.. And then maybe darken them some more. Right now the shades are too close together in brightness, which makes the image look flat.

Well, since this is the AGS forum, that centers around a Windows program, I think it's safe to say that most of us here prefer Microsoft. Except for Gilbert.. But he's a psychopath :P

You can't speak out against the president without being accused of treason.

That's not true.. If you're white. That's what bothers me most about post-9/11 America. We seem to be ignoring peoples' rights for the sake of "national security", which basically means keeping all the white people from getting upset.

However, I used the expression 'bombed out' because, instead of an actual error message, it would display a row of little bombs with fuses and the number of them corresponded to the error message.

Cool! I think Microsoft should do that. At least it would make crashes more fun.

You need to darken the shadows a bit. Right now there's not enough contrast. Also, I don't really know much about manga style, but shouldn't the nost be smaller?

I think the hair could use an extra highlight color to make it look more shiny.

Looks good so far. I'd like to see a game in this style. Good to see people actually putting effort into their graphics.

EDIT: By the way, don't worry if it's not perfect manga. I'd rather see you using a somewhat unique style. I think manga is a bit overused these days..

EDIT:

Here's an example to show what I mean:

I darkened the shadows to give more contrast, and added another highlight to the hair. Could be better, but it does the job  :P.
