We don't talk about the other french guy.

Not after the accident.

That's right. Just because games aren't being released doesn't mean they're not being worked on. This could even be a good sign- people are working on bigger, better games.

Or it could be meaningless. That's as good a theory as any..

I agree with Eric and Rode and a few others 100%. These forums have been "going downhill" according to some experts for about three years, and I honestly don't see much difference between now and then. People come and go, but the general atmosphere has stayed the same.

"why are we worried about the forums when we should ultimately be making games?"

Couldn't agree with you more. The games. Isn't that why we're here? I know I shouldn't judge, since it's been years since I've finished a game  :P but I know that years from now, the games will always be more important than any pretentious discussion about philosophy or politics or cows or kitties.

Does that mean I'll start working on my games? Um.. No.. probably not.

I'm wondering btw why everybody in here speaks a foreign language we would understand each other better if everyone spoke french like in real life
no?

I really hope that's a joke.

You do realize this is an international forum, right? And that France isn't the only country?

Well, that's where the size comes from  ;)

Instead of zipping the game, you might want to try the clickteam installer. I've never used it, but I hear it compresses a lot better than zip files. I think there's a free version at the clickteam website.

I actually know someone who was stalked by the brother of someone he met online. He didn't even know he was being stalked until the FBI talked to him. Apparently the guy lived on the other side of the country and the police stopped him in Wisconsin.

True story.

Quotewow, someone got away with a real nice thread dig.

It's that Bluke kid. At least he only found good topics, and none of those "FLASH YOUR BALLS" threads that Mods keeps starting up..

General Discussion / Re:Best Humour
Fri 13/06/2003 21:19:02
DG and Scid are definitely right. I hate using jokes in my games that don't make me laugh out loud. And I think my best humor is pullled out of my ass. There's just something about sponteneous humor that makes it funnier than anything fabricated.

I like any style of humor, as long as it's done well. And I think it's important to remember that not all good humor has to make you laugh out loud. Just look at the Peanuts cartoons. Most of Schulz's jokes don't make me laugh out loud, but I still love that comic.. Maybe it's not really humor though.. I think Peanuts has more of an emotional appeal than anything else.

Back to serious humor now :P. Absurdist/Surrealist humor (whatever you cheese to call it) is always funny. That's a good example where spontaneous humor works best. When you watch almost any Monty Python sketch, it really doesn't appear that a great deal of thought went into writing it. That's why it's good.. We can't explain why it's funny, and if we figured it out it probably wouldn't be funny anymore.

I was going to write a lot more, but I can't think at the moment. Too many paint fumes..

Frank Black, Musician -- One of the most influential musicians in the 80s and 90s.

John Lennon, Musician -- All the Beatles are great, of course, but I think Lennon had the most talent.

Jimmy Carter, President -- Bad politician, good human being

Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi, Activists -- For civil disobediance and changing peoples' lives.

Kurt Vonnegut, Writer -- Unique, interesting stories that mean something

Bill Watterson, Charles Schulz, Cartoonists -- For growing roses among all the horse shit out there

I know there's plenty I've forgotten. I'll add more later..

Too busy exploring their sexuality.

Whoops. Sorry about that ;p

I think you should go ahead with the idea. It's pretty original (even after Sasha's game.. I think the slime thing is all the two ideas have in common), and if the animations are anything like your avatar I would definitely play your game just for the graphics. If the plot is good and the puzzles are logical within the context of the plot, then I'm sure it will be a good game.

I take the year, month and date of my birthday, add them together, multiply that by my social security number, combine that with my mother's maiden name, and then add the first letter of each of my cats' names in reverse-alphabetical order..

Actually, for this forum, it's just "ketchup"

It looks good, but the proportions bother me. His mouth is where his chin should be. I think you need to move the mouth and nose up about four or five pixels.
#634
Really fun, and addictive too. Everything has that crazy Mostly charm to it. I've been playing in practice mode so I can play longer.
#635
That background is way too dark, squinky. From what I can see, it looks like a good picture, though.
#636
Yeah, or if that doesn't work, just select a sprite to use as the bullet pic and have some transparent space on the left side of that sprite.
#637
Holy shit. I didn't notice that parameters list until now, but now that I've seen it I want to make out with it :D
#638
Just draw your GUI background the way you want it and import it as a sprite. Then you can select that as the background in the GUI editor.
#639
Yeah, using BASS isn't a good idea since it would complicate distribution. Another alternative would be to use the Modplug browser plugin (it has its instructions availible to developers), which doesn't have any license fees. Only drawback is it's no longer supported by the person who wrote it, but then again, neither is JGMod..
#640
Ha! Those are beautiful. Thanks Evil, Marki, and Squinky for proving that sprite jams are not dead  :)
