It looks good.. Very Poserish, but good  ;)

The face kind of bothers me though. I think you might want to clean it up in photoshop, getting in and taking away the stray pixels.. Actually, it might be better to just redraw the face completely to give it more personality. That's really the one thing that bothers me about poser; Everybody looks the same. If you make one face in photoshop and paste it into each frame it would really improve the character..

EDIT: also, you might want to change the light source. Having it from the side likethat might look weird if the character is in a place wit a light source on the other side. I'd suggest putting the light source in front of and slightly above the character (in other words, right between the character and you). That would give less of a hint of where the light is coming from, so that the backgrounds won't clash with the characters.

JIMI: Don't post BMPs. It's easy to save a gif or jpg in PSP, and it cuts the download time a lot for people on dialup. There's absolutely no reason to post a BMP when you just want c&c on your work.. And I'm sure you've been told before about this.

Ben: S-H5 is awesome, probably his best book :)  One of the most amazing things about it to me was when I realized the whole thing was actually told IN the style of the alien book he describes IN the book.  Then when you read it again with that in mind, it's even cooler.

I realized that too. That's the one thing that makes slaughterhous five superior to all those boring chronoligical books.. It's interesting how you know exactly how the story is going to turn out, but you're still clueless as to what will happen next.

Of course, the only Vonnegut books I've read are Slaughterhouse Five and Cat's Cradle, which I've heard are the best ones. I'm trying to find more, but I don't know which ones to read..

On a completely unrelated note, I found a bunch of my old Calvin & Hobbes collections. Now I remember why I always loved that comic so much. It also makes me a little bit sad in that it reminds me how horrible most other comics are..

Blarg.. I think we already sound like pissed-off old men  :P

I think Scid made some good points. I played Max Payne a few months ago, and it is definitely more than just a 3d shooter. It actually has an interesting storyline, and characters that I cared about. At the end, I couldn't wait to kill that crazy rich lady. And not because I wanted to see the cool graphics at the end of the game, but because I hated her for killing max's family, blah blah don't want to ruin it for everyone.. The point is, the story in Max Payne was a part of the game, in that it was the friving force that made me want to play it. It wasn't the graphics, or the shooting bad guys (though they were definitely cool). I felt like I was part of the story.. I would love to see more games like this. It's the closest thing I've seen to a true action-adventure (though it was still lacking in the puzzle department). This type of game should definitely be explored more.

I've never played The Sims, but I agree that any game that lets you control and do anything you want can be a success. Just look as Sim City when it first came out. It appealed to people of all ages, because there really was something there for everyone. You could build a giant metropolis and manage a budget, or just fuck around (which is mostly what I did ;). However, I think it would be a lot more difficult to make an adventue game like this. How do you record dialog and create puzzles in a world where anything is possible? A truly nonlinear game probably would not look or feel like a traditional point + click adventure.

I think the adventure community just needs to do what ID did with Doom, doing something that nobody has ever seen before, and makes everything else (at the time) look weak in comparison.

Any volunteers?  :P

I just finished Slaughterhouse Five but Kurt Vonnegut. I like the black humor in it, and the way the story is told in a somewhat random order..

I bought Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card a few days ago, but haven't started reading them yet.

Phil, you're the greatest! Always so talented and sexy. Your comics, and your book.. Actually, I've never read your book. But I called you sexy.

I'll be looking forward to your new game. And I'll get around to reading your book some day.

I guss it is hard to define what a sprite is. But in general, things that are antialiased to blend in with only the background they were drawn on (The coffee cup, the candyman), and things that have been resized and resampled in photoshop (animated coffee lady) are not considered sprites. Basically, if it wouldn't look right in a game over a background, then it's not a sprite. But this isn't a debate, so I'll save further whining until the jam is over ;)

Earlier this year I was addicted to peanut butter. Now I hate it..

I knew somebody who was ony a daily peanut butter fitness regemin. I think he died.

These are all nice etries.. Though I'd like to point out that technically, only four of them are sprites.

Look up AnimateCharacter and AnimateObject in the Text Script Functions section of the manual.. And in the future, at least try to look in the manual before posting, please.

Also, things like this belong in the Basic Technical FOrum.

Here's my hot secretary:

There's no animation, and nothing funny. oops.

Ogg is still there. In fact, the main reason Chris added OGG was because of this Mp3-less version. Chris only removes the Mp3 player because of licensing problems. The OGG format doesn't have any license limitations, so there's no reason to remove it..

just use this when the GUI is turned on:

character[GREY].room = character[GetPlayerCharacter()].room;

and this when it's turned off:

character[GREY].room = -1;

You probably won't have to set an x and y position at run-time. If you set it correctly in the character editor it should always come up in the right place.

That looks really good. I like how you only have two basic shades- it makes it look like a noir-ish comic.

The cartoon made me laugh out loud when I saw it :)

Isn't the inventory element already transparent? I'm pretty sure it shows the GUI background behind it..

MMnnnhhahahaha!!!

You'd think he's get better with practice, but he looks more like a chimpanee in every take.

that hardcore sex scene was disturbing.  Not really obscene, though, because you can't see their genitals..

Ah, I've already tried Game Maker. It seems powerful, but there are some things about it I don't like. Mostly the loading time, and the fact that its graphical event editor gets in the way.

By the way, yesterday I found this language that's made especially for 2d games:

http://fenix.divsite.net/index.php?opcion=1&lang=en

It looks like the most powerful thing you can get for free. The only problem is that it's still in alpha stages, and most of the documentation is in Spanish. Also, it's not as easy to use as AGS, since everything is script based.

Well, then there's no need to create a new character. Just animate your character the usual way and it should automatically be scaled correctly. I know it works if you do it through the script..
