Just spent quite som time and a lot of work drawing this.
I'd never guessed that drawing stairs could be almost as tiresome as climbing them! :)

I also made a new sprite for the character in the concept, if anyone wants to see and comment, follow the link below.

It took me some time, but here is a new sprite for Victor the Rom (or gypsy, which was the most common term back then).
He looks less peaceful now, due to the fact that I decided to have him stand guard outside rather than lying in the sick-room (I'm thinking of having the bed occupied by a night-witch getting some precious sleep after a long night of flying! ;) ). Since he had no gun of his own, he took one from a dead german. What do you think? :)

Thank you so much for the comments!

Mandle: She likes puzzle games, and she enjoyed Broken Sword when I recommended it to her. I wanted to make something with a bit of a story to it, that would really mean something. We've had a tough few years, in our own way, but we're getting through it now and I wanted to do something that reminds her that there are better times ahead, if that doesn't sound too cheesy. :P
That sounds so sweet, hope you finish the game in time! :)

This looks really, really beautiful! You wouldn't happen to be a fan of Zdzislaw Beksinski? :)

I've added a new tapestry to the church, since few things cannot be improved with a nice tapestry!
Spoiler
And I also wanted to keep those who didn't see my previous screenshot on their toes and make them have to look for the door! ;)

I also thought it would be fun to include an old sketch of the church for comparison now that I've come so far. As you can see it looked a little bit different back then! (roll) This was one of the first sketches I made for the game, way back in August. Even though most of the game were made up as I went along, I knew from the start that I wanted the ending to take place atop a church tower. Partially because it's a tried and true storytelling device used in many beloved stories, and partially because I wanted a room which wasn't soviet-grey concrete, but an area where I could really indulge myself in covering all the walls in byzantine intricacies! ;-D (for those interested in that sort of things, I really recommend checking out the works of Nicholas Roerich, a most inspiring artist!)

Making this game hasn't been a completely straight road, but with some luck I might finally complete it this spring! ;-D

It's a beautiful, beautiful contrast against the rusty, grimy slums in the previous screenshots!

Looks good, love the watercolor look! 8-)

just realized that  I left "sweet" out of the sentence... (roll)
Should have been "He looks sweet and peaceful." ;)

Maybe he's in shock and has "retreated" to a better place? (nod)
Sounds like an interesting idea worth exploring, though I also thought about having him giving the spotter a bit of perspective. To him, being in the army has been pretty terrible, but to Victor it has been a chance to get real (if meager) pay and not be excluded due to his heritage, but your idea also sounds worth exploring! :)

He looks and peaceful... I like him! (nod)
How great that you like him! ;-D
Perhaps a calm and peaceful man would be a nice change of pace to the other patients...

Just came up with a new character concept! ;-D

I wanted to have one more patient in the sick-room in the game, and learning that today is international Roma day, I thought why not make him a Rom?
This is Victor, a young man who joined the red army to help provide for his family. I haven't come up with much backstory yet, or exactly how he got injured. I suppose this might add a slightly darker element to the game as, while this particular character isn't a victim, many Roma were persecuted and killed during the war. I'm glad to hear any thoughts and opinions on this character.

Who doesn't love Indiana Jones? ;-D This game looks fun!

You forgot "mind his own business unaware that there is a cucumber right behind him and then suddenly notice it and jump a mile"

(search cats and cucumbers on youtube if you are confused, but make sure the rest of your evening is free)
Perhaps "Star in various youtube videos" should also be an option! :)

New screenshot!

The church sadly suffered quite a few damages in the war...
As for the two characters depicted to the left and right in the glass widows, I just thought that it would be fun to throw in a small reference my two previous games! :)

Funniest image I've seen today by far! (laugh)

Personally I prefer the diagonal views, since if you look att comics and movies, the characters rarely face the camera straight forward or completely in profile. But at the same time, game characters often move in straight directions and it can also be easier to draw walking animations from the side than diagonally. In most cases this is a purely aesthetic choice when it's about point and click adventures.

A very beautiful background. Such detail! 8-0
And it really does a great job portraying what kind of society the game takes place in!
