Wow, very nice atmosphere, I felt relaxed immediately :)

Didn't encounter any bugs so far, but got stuck

Ok, here's a hint:
Spoiler
To get the red pearl, you must know what it represents.

And another hint:
Spoiler
Where did the rock come from?

An interesting game...

I didn't get to finish it.  I got a bit stuck:

Spoiler

Ok, there are several ways to go from here. So here are a few hints: Where did the rock come from? What does the red pearl represent?

The writing in the diary has some grammar/spelling errors.  Nothing major, but little things (cosy instead of cozy) and some is/are mistakes.

I thought it could be spelled both ways. I'll see if I can find the smaller errors too.

Navigation was a little odd ... the cursor stayed the hand which led me to think I could click on anything so it was a little confusing.  I think a generic cursor which changes to the hand when you're over an object you can interact with would be better.  I don't mind a little pixel-hunting ... but the only time the cursor changes is when you can "go" a direction.

Well, we thought the game would be way too easy if you got that kind of feedback from the cursor.

Also, though not terrible, sometimes it's hard to tell which direction you came from when you get to a new screen so you think you need to go one way to get "back" and it's the wrong way.

It would be nice if you could mention in which rooms you got confused about this :) In the beginning of developing the game I thought of including a map, but later I found it a bit overkill..

It wasn't too dark on my [laptop] screen.

Great  :D

The inventory/options screen up top ... I think those would work better if just mouseOver would open them rather than having to click.

I'll consider that. Thanks :)

Last thing; the interactions seems to ... stick ... at times.  Like I can click on something, but then can't click again for a bit of time.  (I don't have my sound on so there might be some sound playing that causes/justifies this sticking)

Actually, there is a certain place in the game where I placed a wait(), because of a soundclip that needed to be heard. So you can't leave the screen right away because that would make it stop playing.. I dunno if that's the right way to get around that problem though.

All in all I'm pleased with it!

Good to hear. Thanks for your time and feedback. I really appreciate it :)

AGS Games in Production / Fading Shades v0.5
Sat 28/06/2008 18:17:11
Hi all

So, after working on it for years it seems I'm finally ready for my first AGS game to be tested. So I'm looking for people who'd like to betatest for me.

"Fading Shades" is a very simple first person adventure game. It's not too big, since it's my first attempt at creating an adventure game.

Download here (link removed  ;) You'll have to wait for the release now. )

If you feel like testing for me, please answer the following questions:

1) How long did it take you to complete the game?
2) Did you find the game too difficult? Too easy? What's too difficult / easy?
3) Do you find the graphics too dark on your monitor?
4) Find any bugs?
Any other feedback also appreciated.

Thanks for helping

It works  ;D

Thanks!

I have a problem regarding sound in my game.
When entering room 4 to room 8, I want the same ambient sound to play. So far I'm stuck in the middle of two options:

•Option 1: I can use PlaySound or PlaySoundEx, which plays continually as I walk through the rooms, without starting over. But I can't make it repeat itself.

•Option 2: I can use PlayAmbientSound, which makes the sound loop, but it stops abruptly when I leave the room.

I'm using a rather old version of AGS (version 2.71), so maybe it isn't possible to accomplish what I need.
Any ideas how to work around this? Or is it possible that there is a way to solve it, that I just haven't discovered?

I hope that these big introductory posts and all don't give the impression that in order to participate, people will need to dedicate a large amount of time on this, or have any kind of artistic skill. If you happen to have 10 minutes on the bus each day, that amounts to 60 minutes of designs, which isn't bad.

So if you have a moment over each day, and find it interesting enough, I hope you'll join in.

I wish I had. I follow this workshop closely though!
I need to focus on my exams for now, that's the reason why I don't have the time.
But the whole idea behind this workshop is so inspiring, that I'm definetely going to try it out as soon as I can :)

I really wish I had the time to participate in this one...  :(
Great idea loominous!
I’m looking forward to seeing the entries  :D

No it's not just you. Cheers  :=

I have no friends  ;D Perhaps because I don't talk much.

CUTE bunny?! I disagree…

(I didn't plan to enter this competition, but couldn't resist..  ;D )
Anyway I failed to kill the bunny so I guess it doesn't count as a real entry  :P

My nickname is Blue because I am a smurf...
..(Or at least that's what others tell me  ;D)

Anyway, about ten years ago, I needed to come up with a nickname for myself, and I ended up with BlueAngel (yeah I know it's a bit cheesy, but I was young hehe).
It stuck with me for many years though, and I even got myself a homepage with that name..

A few years ago I realized that perhaps I was too old now to go with that name, but instead of choosing a whole new name, I got rid of the angel part, and went by Blue.

Blue is of course my favourite colour, but I suppose that's obvious  ;)

@ brokonbutterfly - Thank you for the kind words :)

I don't really have any ideas for a new animation competition topic, so if someone else does, feel free to start one in my place ;)

Dang! I didn't realize this competition was expired  ;D
I had a little fun with it.. It doesn't really make any sense so nevermind that  ;)

Because I know there's some Commodore 64 fans here, and Indiana Jones and Dizzy fans too, behold what would have been the greatest game in the universe had it been released 24 years ago: Joe Gunn

I must agree with you. This game is really awesome!
I checked it out yesterday, and I haven't been able to let go of it yet  :D
So thank you for sharing  ;)

It has been incredible hard to choose a winner amongst these entries. They all score about the same points, just on different areas.

But my decision is this:

1st place goes to Bohnito
2nd place goes to Andy R.
3rd place goes to Penguin

Right now he doesn't seem to stretch his legs when he takes a step. Also I'd like to see his heels hit the ground. Unless of course there is a reason why he's walking like this. Perhaps he's walking in show or something.  ;D

The mollusc puzzle threw me a bit.  I thought the game would automatically tell me when I had things aligned correctly - didn't realise you had to press the lower right button at first.   ???

Yeah, that puzzle was really tough! I must admit after trying very hard to guess the combination I ended up spinning the wheels randomly until the right combination was found.

I hate it myself when I create a puzzle, and people don't bother to solve it but rather guess their way through, but in this case I was not able to recognise the names of the different species simply because English is not my native language ;-) (Probably just a bad excuse heh).

The topic and its description confused me a little bit. "Something strange" and it could be a man or a bird ?

Well yes.. as long as it is strange looking  ;D

Topic: Something strange

What is this? A man? A bird? Some weird machine? A hole in the wall?
It's up to you to decide. Surprise me with your innovative thinking. ;)

Max colours: 30

The outline may be mirrored and rotated, but not scaled.
The outline may be altered, as long as it is still recognisable.

And the usual bonuspoints is given for including a background and for originality.

Edit: I think the entries so far are really great, so I've decided to throw in some trophies for the winners  ;D

Cool! Thanks guys  :) I agree with Monsieur OUXX about xrat's piano though.
I'll start a new one as soon as I've come up with an idea.
