I think it would be difficult to have a demo for this one, so it'll probably be the full game released straight out.  As with most things development on CD hasn't entirely gone to plan, and having had a reshuffle of Team Disaster personnel, we may well not see this one until 2014 - after the commercial game release (Death Has a Million Stomping Boots).

HOWEVER...

There is a third, unannounced CD game in development - it will be a small uncomplicated affair, but that means we should be able to finish it relatively quickly, even while the rest of the team are hard at work on DHAMSB.  ;-D

Unless people are actually leaving blank comments on the Games page, I guess there's a problem there.  2 of the 3 most recent comments are not showing up.

I find the Posterize filter in GIMP to be pretty good, but I'm afraid I wouldn't know whether it's any better or worse than any other programs.  :(

A new screenshot for the new year - the graphics for Act I are about 80% complete now (unless of course we start adding even more locations...).

I'm only going to suggest this for Best Demo, because I don't know if a demo is eligible for other categories... if it is, feel free to nominate!  (In that case puzzles, music, animation, player / non-player character, voice acting, Best Misuse of a Fake Brummie Accent [if this isn't a category it should be!] might be in with a shout perhaps?)

Captain Disaster in Death Has a Million Stomping Boots - DEMO

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1598

The demo takes place in Act II of the game - after CD has successfully transported the mysterious package from Acturus-1, he finds that he is unable to leave orbit due to being out of fuel.  Will he manage to get his ship moving again before the irritable Ground Control employee blows him to bits?!

Travelling through hyperspace on a converted London Ungerground train can get a bit hair-raising...

Alright, guys, just in case anyone is still interested: I've set up a forum for the Discworld fangame: http://discworld-fanproject.proboards.com
Cool! If this is going to happen I like to be involved too.  ;-D

Aurgh!  I completely missed that post!

Since I announced the game at Adventure-X I guess I should announce it here too!  :-D

Captain Disaster in: There's a Hole in my Galaxy is another comedy science fiction game starring the hapless captain.  Once more he's put the universe at risk, and again it's up to him to save it.

Imagine, if you will, the love child of Star Trek TNG, Red Dwarf and a strange, surprised looking creature from Alpha Centuri.  Mix it in with a little gameplay that's mostly adventure but with just a hint of space RPG, gulp it down with lots of pizza and cheap bear, and you have some idea what this game is eventually going to be like.  An epically stupid and possibly stupidly epic game set across 3 time zones.

Difficult to say.  Most commercial adventure games I've played recently took me about 10-12 hours to complete; most indie adventure games have tended to take 6-8.  Freeware games... well it can be anything.

But like Ghost said, it really depends how long it takes you to tell the story - and anyway each player is going to be different (some might get stuck at one point, some of those will look for hints, others won't...)

Personally I like little details that act like rewards for the player trying unusual things.  Little in-jokes, references to other adventure games, unexpected responses when you'd normally get a generic response, little graphical details, things like that.  What I don't like is frustrating, illogical puzzles of things that require to to travel repeatedly to do something simple which is part of the "filler" you've already talked about.

Why not ask for some playtesters and see what they think of the game's length?

Recruitment / [HELP FOUND] Voice Actress
Thu 27/12/2012 10:09:20
I'm looking for quite a specific voice actress - someone who can do a generic English accent and also a passable Brummie accent!

It's for a character in Death Has A Million Stomping Boots and will be approx 30 lines for a character who's a sort of female alien version of Stan from the Monkey Island games.  The reason I want someone who can do a Brummie accent is that once the client is scanned, an attempt to use their own local dialect is used (Brummie causes the Universal Translator some difficulties as you  might expect!).

I can't promise payment but you would certainly get a free copy of the game when it's released and (if you want) access to early beta versions during the game's development.

If you're interested please PM me.

Danilo, you are a MACHINE.  Just keep churning out game after game... I don't know how you do it!

I got the chance to have a chat with the crew and muddle my way through the first bit, looks really fun!  Murray's writing is quite similar to my own in some ways (I know, that's a horrible thing to say about anyone...)  There's a mini-game early on in the game which it's now my mission in life to complete. :)

AGS Games in Production / Re: Troll Song
Mon 17/12/2012 18:51:42
Aw man, no-one remembered that there was a playable demo at Adventure-X, even you!  (But I'd be surprised if you can remember anything much with the amount of running around and organising you had to do!!).

Anyway I'll be putting up a playable demo of Troll Song on the AGS games page really soon.  Watch this space!

The highlight of the event had to be seeing Technocrat modelling the Johnny Hurricane pilot's helmet!  But then I was only able to be there on Saturday, so I don't know what good stuff I missed yesterday...

Can the lady in the audience who admitted that she used to use her SingStar mic for voice recording PM me?  (Nothing sinister I assure you, just wanting to make contact with a couple of voice actresses as well - because I don't have any at the moment I tend not to write female characters into my games right now, which is a bit limiting!).

For the record I STILL use my Guitar Hero mic for voice recording and I'm not the slightest bit ashamed of it.  :-D

Mark and the rest of the crew, congratulations on a great event!
