Quote from: Giacomo on Thu 03/10/2024 21:17:55Does the game crash everytime you try to do that thing? I hope it's not so and that you could complete the story.

The game doesn't crash but I can't go on. It happens every time.

QuoteI tried that part so many times and nor me nor my friends who tested the game have ever found it out...I am going to fix it very soon. You can send me the saved game file.
Well, maybe I did something unusual. Check your PMs for the save. Cheers.

I have another game-breaking bug near the end:

Spoiler
Just after getting the mask, if you go from the truck (scene 3) to the festival (scene 2) the sound cuts, you can't control the character any more and nothing happens. It doesn't matter whether Falco has the mask on or not. I can send you a save file just before that part if you want.

I did some tests. The bug seems to be triggered by the bottom line of pixels in your general dialog GUI.

To reproduce it, play in fullscreen mode (where you can easily click on the last row of pixels) and go talk to the barman or to Gina. Place the cursor at the bottom of the screen and click.

Nice game so far with substantial dialogs and good animation.

I'd like to report a crashing bug with the phone booth:

After calling various people, the game crashes when I try to end the call and I get the following message:
QuoteError: DialogOptionsRenderingInfo.ActiveOptionID: invalid ID specified for this dialog (specified 15, valid range 1...5)

Quote from: heltenjon on Mon 30/09/2024 02:02:44I'm fairly certain that the next MAGS will be a "finish your MAGS game" month because we had a month without participation.

Then we'll take the same theme as the 'current' MAGS. That should not be a problem I think.

So be it.

Theme: ALIEN

etc...

As discussed in the last background Blitz, the theme for this month is a tie-in to the last MAGS competition which you can still join since this month will see you finish your MAGS game (jeez, that's a lot of links).

Basically, what it means is that your background must feature something alien. Whether it be little green men, flying saucers or alienation more figuratively, there must be something of the extra-terrestrial in this month's entries.

Shall you decide to take part in the MAGS competition, you may use this background in your game too.

Deadline: October 27th (edited)

As usual the entries will be judged on:
- Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
- Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

To your pencils!

I get a warning when I try to download your game on Itch.io:
QuoteWARNING: This Page Has Been Quarantined
Our system has flagged this page for additional review due to potential suspicious behavior from the page owner.

Maybe that's the same problem that Rootbound encountered when he released his game My Siblings, the Stones a couple of months ago.

Quote from: jwalt on Sun 29/09/2024 17:31:39Since we're fairly close to clocking over another MAGS month, whoever brings forth a new competition might want to try a tie-in to the MAGS game topic.
I like that idea! - And as a bonus I feel we could then both join the new Blitz since neither of us would have an advantage on the topic and whoever starts it would basically be a host-in-name-only.

Alright, let's do this. I'll open a new Background Blitz on October fest first with the same theme as the next MAGS competition.

When the radio announcer talks over the intro of a song, therefore ruining it.

They have cues for the start of the singing part and think it entitles them to utter banalities until the last second  >:(

Congrats on the release!
Since I saw the ad for this game on Adventure Gamers for a long time, I assumed it was already out  (laugh)

The premise sounds a bit like the Blackwell series.

Very atmospheric graphics.

Nice output, Misj'. Always a treat to see your art.

Too bad this competition is long overdue and interest has been pretty low.

Unless someone asks for it, I don't think I'll hold a vote.

Yes.

To quote the dragon: "It's in the world of Daventry, it is called Llewdor". Close enough  :P

2 things I would change about the UI:
- add a hotspot indicator.
- use different colors for the dialogs of each character, or at least for each name.

Gorgeous game, especially the animations 8-0

I found a couple of bugs:
Spoiler

Look behind you Cassima! A three-legged sheep!
It happened when I came back. According to the description, the ewe should have been sleeping.

No, they haven't!
The letters appeared the first time but they were gone when I re-entered the room.

Also, if you juggle between 3 gemstones, it's fairly easy to superimpose them. Then, you can even make one disappear. Fortunately, it reappears quickly.

My progress so far:
Spoiler
I finished Cassima's part and reached Daventry with Edgar.

I occasionally scratched my head but I haven't been stuck very long yet.
Limiting our freedom of movement simplifies the game but I'm totally fine with this.
The only thing keeping me from going on tonight are my heavy eyelids :-D

It's so cheesy that it could belong in GTA Vice City (laugh) You nailed the early 80s sound.

QuoteChappell Roan – "Good Luck, Babe!"
Reminds me of that Gwen Stefani song (but in better).

QuoteAntonio Vivaldi – "Summer" (III. Presto)
It was used for a while on a history radio broadcast here.
Before that, the theme was Light and Shadow by Vangelis. With the right introductory text, it could also give me chills:

From what I read the riddle may be from ancient Babylon and over 4,500 years old.
Nice. It could also be the house of the kitten lady.

RAMSHACKLE ASYLUM

The late Ghost wrote a mouthwatering pitch for his last project Collateral Jelly:

"An alien fleet makes their home right under a ramshackle asylum because you gotta have a sinister home base. It's a matter of style. And they have a plan. An evil, secret plan, deliciously overcomplicated and with just enough wriggle room to fail.

Enter Willow, Earth's last- and best- hope.
She knows the plan. She can save us all if she plays her cards right. Unfortunately, she's several cards short of a full deck, and an ace up your sleeves isn't much help when you're in a straitjacket."

***

So...you see it coming...I want you to help Willow escape from her asylum cell in what's presumably the beginning of the game.

Let's flesh out the premises for this competition:

You're locked in a cell, restrained with a straitjacket.
From time to time, a single guardian watches the residents through a camera on the ceiling. You can ask her to:
- take you to the toilets.
- let you draw on paper with paint sticks.
- bring you some food. Her tray contains mashed potatoes in a plastic bowl, mint flavoured syrup in a plastic cup, an anxiolytic pill and a spoon.

She'll untie you before each activity but will tie you up again when you're done.

Your room contains:
- a standard bed with a mattress, sheets and your beloved cushion (Uncle Norris).
- padded walls, torn in several places. The largest tear reveals a small hole in the wall. You can peep into the adjacent cell through it.
- a high barred window overlooking the nearby forest. One of the bars is loose. Even if it was removed, the opening wouldn't be wide enough to let you out.

The toilet room leads to several cubicles. In the main room, there's a faucet, soap, a mirror made of safety glass, a hand towel, a hand dryer and a mop.
A low cabinet with a single drawer reveals a nail clipper, cotton swabs and a first-aid kit containing bandages, a safety pin, band-aids and a spray disinfectant.
The cubicles contain toilet paper, brushes, a discarded magazine, a twisted hanger that's been used to unclog a pipe and a fish in one of the toilet bowls.

The Rules!

Participants respond to the set-up by writing entries that must do the following:
1. Use at least 3 of the provided elements (inventory, NPCs, a piece of the room like a cabinet or faucet etc.)
2. Give a step-by-step walkthrough of your puzzle solution.
3. Don't add new elements. For example, if the room is a forest, breaking a thin branch off a tree makes sense unless the host said the trees were huge and tall. But adding a hollowed-out stump with a bear sleeping in it is too specific. Assume all important elements have been mentioned by the host.
4. Keep any dialog elements summarized rather than typing out the whole conversation (for example, "threaten the mailman", "ask the child for advice", and so on, instead of giving every spoken line).

Each contest runs for two weeks to allow for a good number of entries, and then it switches to voting for one week. The participant whose solution gets the most votes gets to come up with the next scenario! (Please also provide a link to these rules).

Voters use the criteria of:
a) how logical the puzzle seems
b) how creative or unexpected (but still sensible) is the use of elements
c) how satisfying is the solution (Is it too simple? Way too complicated? Or just right?)

Entries accepted through September 14th.

Have fun!
