Hmm, I when i read the introduction in the thread, i had a few ideas of my own to the concerning problems.
But, while reading the text i saw you covered pretty much everything, even if only superficial.

Ok, some things:
Because of the battery and other mobile concerns, my idea too, was to make the adventure games into shorter series, as in sitcoms, connected but also not too much( but that is also subjectively ).

The interface, as i was imageing it to be like (for non touch screens):
You could divide the screen (if it is scrolling, or has more hotspots, you'll see why) into parts which you could number. Then, when you are in that number, your screen changes, so that on top of the hotspot stands a number. When you press the number the name of the hotsopt appears, and then you know the stuff.

But ofcourse, that would make the game too easy you say?
Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't. My opinion is that it is up to the designer.
This interface would mean no pixel hunting, so it could mean more clever puzzles to make less a cartoon, and more of a game.

Yes, I had other thoughts, but as it took me more than 2 hours to read this thread (i was kind of a busy man), i lost some.
And the fact that it is 4 am.Damn.

Yes Daz, what you are saying is true.
The geologists said that the board/panel/whatever-you-call-it-in-UK  shifting was so powerful that the earth swinged around it's axis for a moment.

Yeah.

And i think we should better call Clint, cuz he's DA SPACE COWBOY!

And about death options, by then, i would hire a plane, or a space shuttle (which would i learn to pilot by M$ Space flight simulator 2028, the 2029 version will have too many bugs and the holo-multiplaying option disabled without the service pack 3 for Windows XXXLongtube).

Yeah!
Pilot Up!

(or i would just learn to surf like hell, so if it falls in the ocean, it would make a hell of a tsunami to surf on.)

Woo hoo!
700 km/h Surfs' up!

First I wanted to say, DG does that have to do something with the thing Yahtzee said eons ago. Then i remembered that it was really so much before. Even before the last awards.
And then I also saw the conversation evolve.

The one thing i am surprised of is seeing DG's work and resignation going away in such a subtle manner.
I thought there was going to be more noise about it. At least the half of what is seen on those "I'm leaving AGS" threads.
But, the man had it's share of work, and with that he built his reputation, so i think everybody thinks it is fair to have him make his own real decisions and to respect it.

Yes.
Another thing.
How come I havent noticed that Yahtzee is on a payroll AG making team?
Have I become so blind and numb to news, or are just these new contact lenses another marketing scam?

Well, I'm working 72 hours this week (including 24th through 26th) and didn't want to bother decorating or anything. Ã, Having agreed not to do much around the house for Christmas with my roommate, imagine my surprise when I came home to a decorated living room. Ã,

It had gone from bare with average furniture and entertainment center to a madly sparkling phenomenon. Ã, The stockings were hung, the couch was draped in red and white, there was a miniature Christmas tree on the coffee table. Ã, Oh, and did I mention the crime-scene? Ã, There was a Santa-shaped "chalk" outline on the carpet, "blood" everywhere and enough debris and broken ornamentation to demonstrate that the poor fellow had obviously tried to squeeze past the couch after coming down the chimney. A splat of "blood" on the TV and some broken ornaments (oh, and crime-scene evidence number markers) and I had a very merry and cheering Christmas (for the 10 minutes before I went to sleep anyway). Ã,

Idea done by my roommate with the help of his friends and much of the macabre detail arranged by my demented little sister. Ã, My favorite Christmas gift, ever. Ã, Total price? Hell.... Ã, maybe $15? Ã,  Total work? I can't imagine.

I'm voting this for the best Christmas present ever. What a feeling must have that been. :)
The best presents are the ones where you see someone has put some thought in, and if it is a surprise, the better.

But only the content would be voted. And only in specified subforums, if needed.
But then again, if also needed, there could be content(sp) quality, and an Interesting scale.

Also, if it would take up a lot of bandwith, we can stay with type which I repeat, doesnt miss anything, and i was only hypothetical up here.

But ofcourse, if the idea was needed to materialise, i think DJ's idea is fairly good, but instead of m0ds, it should be voted by people.

Well people, I am now actually changing views.

Tho' it seemed to me like a good idea at first, I think i forgot about the essential.
Game making that is. Mills has a point, and so does eric.
More quality games is what we really need.

If not, we're headed for the same destiny The Roman Empire had.

They started as farmers doing everything by themselves, but later as they grew stronger, they had more and more comfort, until they relied on their slaves to do all the work, and thus the corruption evolved bringing it to its doom. More or less like that.

I have gone astray, backwards and even other dimensions, but it doesnt seem I followed the Adventure maker's Path.

But still, nothing lasts forever, so i'm going to try to enjoy this time of AGSing and actually do something.

Yes well, perhaps that will be the only way.

But the point is to extract the good ones from the bad ones when they arrive, and that doesnt mean daily, weekly, monthly, but randomly.

So, when there is something interesting, and what is interesting in the thing, it is posted in a few words on the ?billboard?.

The form shouldn't be hard to do.

Something like:
"In the "Name the thread" m0ds and eric are discussing should the americans stop calling the USA championship in baseball the World series"

That is pretty much the right size, so you get the point.

Hey all.

I was thinking.
Actually, it came to me while surfing the forums.
How many of you would support this idea of mine, which i will explain now.

The idea is this.

Have you ever came to the forums after a few days of absence or even on your regular visit, and wondered: "Hmm, what threads are interesting to read. What thread should i check now.
But, there are so many of them, and i dont have time to read them all, and this topic sure doesnt explain the half of the contenent in this thread.
What if they have gone OT and are discussing something familiar and interesting to me, instead of the stuff that is written in the topic."

My solution to this would be that there is a number of AGS members who read the threads and then post a summary, or actually the peak (would that be the word) of the thread in a way that everybody can see it without bothering, above the forums, the way CJ notices us about stuff (delete unneeded PMs, forum change, etc.).
They would post it on a different page(something like the studio were it is all processed), and then put by CJ or some editor up on the ?promt box place?. Or even without the editor.
But there should be order.

So what are your oppinions.
Are you ready for change? Are you ready for simplifying with work?
:)

Einoo you really cracked me up! You da man!

But now talking for real, i think Big brothers has the most detail and I really like his efforts. Damn (it feels good to be a gansta - what movie? :P), how can one be so constant in his work. We must eliminate him.

DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT NOW! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

I love it when all of us gather up at the end of the year, or in the beggining, and then we talk about what games do we wish for.
But not just that; there is talk about what happened this year, what were the best games, who got what for christmas, then someone mentiones something about his job, then everybody starts talking about their jobs, and their memories from school or whatever.

I like this insight in the new year. A person has a reason to be more happy and/or cheerful.
I like the thought that it will soon be 2005, and Ignac is advertised for 2005, right.
Of course, that's just on the community side. We all have a real life and real problems to worry about, but it's a cool place to be, this AGS community.

Damn, i wish i played Maniac Mansion as a kid.
Now i would have memories to admire, and everytime i would start the game, it would be a joy of reminiscing.

Tho i have kinda some memories of Maniac mansion.
My friend had an Amiga, and we always used to play it in his attic (not really attic, more of an apartment under the roof). It was really cozy for playing adventures (we always played Gobliins), tho we played all of his games.

There was this one game on 2 disks (i think, or 4) that never worked. The 2nd disk never worked that is. That part where you actually had to start the game after the intro (i'm not sure if AFTER the intro with choosing players or the other one).
Anyway, I know i always wanted to play the game, but never had the chance when i was younger.
By the time i knew all the affiliation with the game, and i had my new pc and access to the net, it was too late for me to play that game (in the same way i would before, ofcourse), so i actually never put myself into it.

Obviously you haven't noticed Igor's work.  ;)

The walkcycle is very good, but i like the paintover more. It gives more youth to the character.

Sorry to hear about problem. I thought about one solution - could someone pay for one more bandwidth to put some parts of the forum there? It would be just like you click on e.g. Critics Lounge and get redirected to the second forum. That could split the CPU between two servers.

How strange, or not so strange, but we had teh same idea.
I think that could work well, tho' there would be some glitches with the Moderators and moving threads, but as i recall, the Crit. lounge was never causing too much trouble, so simple locking would be fine.

But then again, would we be forced to use doulbe login and registration?
But then again again, i think we are all willing to sacrifice our post number in order to have the CL, and save CJ some bucks, even untill he gets enough from donations.

How much does the ded. server cost anyway, Chris?

But there is an antidote to that!
