Sweet!  I might have to check this out someday.

WOOT!  Congrats on getting the game done!

FINALLY it's uploaded!  (Sheesh, why must everything be such an effing hassle?!)

Thanks for the help!

Game Name: Sarimento on Hyperborean Island.

Game Description: A game I made for, and about, Sarimento (a friend on Gaia Online).

Sarimento crashlands on the wintry Hyperboreon Island, and underneath the peaceful exterior, people are in fear.  Help Sarimento restore people's faith in their fellow man, and deal with those who are causing trouble to them.

This game uses a verb coin.  Left click on certain targets will bring up the verb coin, or if there's an item in use, will interact with the item.  Right click will bring up the inventory or, if the cursor is currently an item, will revert it back to the regular cursor.  Click on the computer button on the upper right of the screen to bring up the system menu to change the volume or game speed; save, load, etc.

I've been trying to add my game "Sarimento on Hyperborean Island" multiple times, and I've filled in all the required fields.  But every time I've hit the add game link, it just shows a blank page.  No error message or anything.  When I get out and go back to the games list, my game isn't added!  What gives?!

It's just a jump to left--

Whoops, wrong time warp.

Anyway, best of luck for this contest.

I guess it didn't happen to me before because
Spoiler
I was at the dirigible docks when offering the Nymph Statuette to Jarl at the time.

I hopefully fixed the bug there too.

Oh?  Lemme check.

Yeah, I put it on "Leave Left Edge" instead of "Leave Right Edge".  I'm fixing this now.

[Edit] Okay, I fixed it.  The rest of the game should function properly now.  For those who downloaded already, go ahead and delete the old version and download the newer version.

Indeed.  This game would've been finished years ago (and perhaps be in better quality) if I had help.  But aside from a few pointers, I had to do it alone.

Still, I got it done.  And I've kinda learned a lesson--next time I do a verb-coin adventure game, I won't make the verb-coin so convoluted.

Rejoice with me, for a game that I've long wanted to complete making has finally been completed!

Sarimento on Hyperborean Island

A game made for, and about, Sarimento (a friend on Gaia Online).  So it's meant to be a gift game, but others can play it too!

Here's the 411:

The titular hero, Sarimento, crash-lands on the wintry Hyperborean Island.  But under the calm exterior, the people are in fear.

Help the hero restore the people's faith in humanity by doing some small (and sometimes large) favors, and eventually finding the cause of their troubles.

This is a verb-coin game.  Left click has the hero walk or, if the cursor is on a spot (character, hotspot, etc.) bring up the verb-coin interface (or, if he's got an item, use the item in some way).  Right click brings up the Inventory GUI, or if he has an item active already, get the cursor back to the regular cursor.  Click the computer button on the top right of the screen to bring up the system menu to change volume and character speed, save, load, etc.

Full-screen mode is recommended for this game.

Quote from: tbook on Tue 30/04/2024 08:52:19Thank you!

Yes, this song, along with others from that era, inspired me to start the story :)

Heh, that would explain it.  Anyway, I'm sure this will be a fun game.

The title made me think of the "Men at Work" song.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where this project goes.

Ooh!  Very interesting theme!  It'll be interesting to see what comes out of this!
#14
I saw one of the battle scenes--will there be swordfight insults in this game?  (laugh)

Thanks for pointing that out.  Got that quickly fixed.  My fingers are crossed that I don't run into any more problems after this.

Quote from: Khris on Wed 28/02/2024 08:25:59You should also check the hotspot of the relevant mouse cursor; I remember at least one being completely off when I looked over your game.

Um, for each inventory's cursor, I had a little crosshair (similar to some of AGDI's remakes of Sierra games), but I am not sure how to make my mouse cursor click on the item while in the inventory GUI.  Should I send you my game source again?

Something really screwy is going on with my Inventory interface.

So, when I go into my inventory (and I think I fixed the code to make it select the item when I left-click), it doesn't always pick the item.  I practically have to pixel-hunt to find the "hotspot" of the item to make the action text show the item name and then it'll become active inventory when I click it.

I'd show the code snippet if I knew what code snippet to pick.  (It's my game with the special verb-coin interface I've posted of in the past.)

I've been listening to YouTuber "The Living Tombstone" some more (after all, his song on FNaF1 became the end credits theme to the Five Nights at Freddy's movie).

And a thought came to me--what if we could get The Living Tombstone to make some fun songs for some future adventure games with AGS?  That'd just be awesomesauce!

The new idea from CrimsonWizard (on Discord) helped.  Thanks.  I'll let you know if I run into any more problems.

Thanks for sharing... hopefully there's a way to include homemade graphics as well--might have to check out the code as well.

[Edit] Eh, might as well use the default dialogue settings, and keep this in mind for future projects.  I've been running behind on this game project as is.
