As you may have known by now, Whitney Houston has departed this life.   :'(

Feel free to post your memories of the late musician here.

Here's to you, Whitney Houston.  We'll miss you deeply.

My grandfather (my Dad's dad) passed away this morning.

Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers for this trying time.

For my first game ("Exploring AGS World"), I completed the sprites of the main character, Donald.

Now, since I had to make the sprites by myself, I should warn you up front the animation is gonna be a bit wonky.

Next up (heaven willing) is work on the sprites of Donald's first friend, the ice-skater girl Christi.

I tried to search for any threads similar, but search is malfunctioning (again).

Anyway, on the topic of Verb Coins, though it was mainly used in Curse of Monkey Island, a form of it was used in Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire.  Heck there were four "coins".  One coin was used for the character sheet (which included the rest/sleep part), another for the action/look, a third for inventory, and one that served as the compass to help you know where you were going (to an extent).

Am I perhaps the only one who noticed this?

General Discussion / Rosenkreuzstilette
Wed 24/08/2011 18:31:48
I think it's high time I made more posts here, aside from asking help in making adventure games with AGS.

Anyone familiar with Rosenkreuzstilette, or RKS for short?

Now, I know some are looking at the title and thinking "WTF?"

Well, it's mainly a parody of Mega Man, with elements of Castlevania, Mario, and other platformers.  But at the same time, it's original (or at least as original as something like this gets!).

It's mainly in Japanese and German, but there's a patch that can translate it to English too--and not Engrish, but very well translated.

Anyone interested?

If and when I get better with this software...

I noticed the ratings system concerning language, nudity/sex, and violence for these games.

For my games... the nudity in them (if any) will be undetailed tasteful nudity (UTN for short).  As they say in Monty Python, "no naughty bits".  It'll be no worse than, say, Princess Sally (from Sonic) minus vest and boots.  Or with humans, no worse than mannequins without clothes.  That's as far as I go with nudity.

If there are any sexual scenes in my games (if and when I get better with AGS), they will only be between a husband/wife pair, and ONLY under such circumstances (heterosexuality is a given).  But this too would be UTN.

I just want to say this up front, so others can know that at least I have SOME restraint in the material in my ideas.

Thanks to the mods for telling me how to recruit a team--didn't know how to at the time.

Well, folks, apparently, even for a small game (and my first), I may need help.

I've already prepared concept art of characters, as well as made the rooms and the items.  I just need sprites/views of the characters, sound effects and music, and a GUI for the final part of the game.

The main character is a young boy named Donald.

Here is the concept art for reference of sprites:
Front View:
Side View:
Back View:

Sprites Needed: Walking about (all four directions), speaking (all four directions), picking things up (side views only), giving and getting items (side views only).

This is Christi, an Ice Skater that Donald meets in one of the areas.

All her animations will be side view, of course.
Sprites Needed: Standing still, speaking, going to and from the ice, ice skating, giving Donald an item.

(As for the "items" Christi and the other characters give, I'll explain soon)

This is a generic Dwarf Miner, whom Donald meets in another area.

As you can see from the artwork, his animations will be him in side view or back view.

Animations needed: Mining (back view), Getting and giving item (side view; again, the items will be revealed shortly), Forging special item (back view, kneeling), and Speaking (side view).

Finally, here are Damien and Elise, a newlywed couple that Donald meets (they're in a hot spring).

Animations needed: Damien talking to Elise (same direction as concept art); Damien talking to Donald (same, but slightly looking toward Donald); Elise talking to Damien (same direction as concept art); Elise talking to Donald (her head turns slightly to look at Donald); Elise giving item to Donald.

********

As for the Items, I made those already.  The main plot is Donald had slipped into a strange world and he's trying to get back home (an overused theme, but we'll go with it).  The five items (yes, five--again, I'm still getting used to the AGS software) are a green crystal and four keys (the green crystal Donald gives to the Dwarf Miner to forge into one of the keys).

The five rooms are the starting room, the Icy Vale (where you meet Christi), the Crystal Cave (where you meet the Dwarf Miner), the Misty Lake Shore (I tried to make up the mist and the special light that banishes the mist), and the Steamy Cave Spa (where you meet Damien and Elise).

I've programmed the flow of the rooms and what-not, but once Donald gets all four keys, I'll need a GUI so he can use them all to unlock the door back to his world.  Anyone willing to make the GUI for that?

Finally, the sounds and music.  I'll post that part when I can think of what sounds and music are needed--right now I'm concerned about the character sprites.  You know, let's take this little by little.

I scanned in some concept art of the characters of my first adventure game.  They are not for a competition, as such, and I feel uncomfortable posting in critic's lounge because I didn't want to show for critique, but give a general idea.

So... how do I upload artwork (it is my own, of course) to the forums?  I plan to upload once I color it.  Again, it's concept art.  I'll probably visit the team making forum if I find that it's too much for me to do alone.

Hi.  I'm Danny "D-Boy" Wheeler.  I'm a long time observer, first time participant.

Eh, my current project is outside AGS, but at least once I start making games with AGS, I know I have a resource to help me out.

So, how are all of you?
