So not too long ago, I expanded more on that Momotaro of the Future story I did for the Fortnightly Writing Contest some time back.

And sent it to Fantasy & Science Fiction magazine.

Unfortunately, they weren't looking for that kind of story at the time.  But at least the guy in charge of submissions was nice enough to give me pointers on how to improve.

Well, it was worth a shot.

I wanted to post it here, but it was well above the # of characters the forum allowed in a post.

So, I'll share the link here, as I posted it on my WordPress site.

I finally got my game done.

This is...

Conifer Skunks: Osvald's Surprise.

Originally this was going to be for May 2019's MAGS, but it soon became obvious I would never get it done in time, even with an extension, so it's a stand-alone short game.  If anything else, it's a proof of concept.

Anyway, help Thyra find out what her husband Osvald is up to.

Oh, and sorry for any loud volume at first.  Once the game gives you control, just go into the System Panel and adjust the volume manually.

So, I've been trying to get my game to work.

But while the NPC is resizing properly, my player character is still large.

Am I missing some code to make her resize as well? (I set the walkable area scaling to 38% so both characters should have resized to that.)

Hey, all!

So, I'm trying to break into freelance blogging, and am getting experience in it with WordPress.

I plan to blog on games, be they action platformer, RPG, or adventure.  Yep, it'd even include AGS games!

So, any AGS user wanna have an interview, or want to talk about an upcoming AGS game?  I'd love to help get the word out!

Reality-on-the-Norm / Map of RotN
Tue 30/04/2019 00:02:54
So... I've been thinking.

I might try my hand with Reality-on-the-Norm.  Because I might use it if a topic in MAGS may not be something to my interest, or maybe that particular MAGS topic may be difficult for characters I want to use at the time.

In other words, if I can't make a MAGS competition entry for one reason or another, I can do a Reality-on-the-Norm game instead.

This brings me to my question, though... is there a map of Reality-on-the-Norm, per se?  Or can ROTN be any set up at the pleasure of the game's maker?

[I wasn't sure if this fit with Adventure Related Talk & Chat, so I played it safe and posted in General Discussion.]

Anyone know Chills on YouTube, or at least his main channel "Top 15"s?

Well, we all know he has a creepy-yet-cool voice.  So... what if he were the voice of the narrator of a future horror-themed AGS game?  I think it'd be cool if Chills got to narrate a horror adventure game made with AGS.

I just had this funny idea...

Someone should record their playing of a game in our archives that is a Joke Game or otherwise a really bad game (that deserves its bad rating, but still playable)...

And then give the recording the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment!

Recruitment / Assistance for MAGS Feb. 2019

Searching for background artist and a spriter/animator for MAGS project.

Pending title for the game is "The Conifer Skunks: Thyra's Fancy Search".

Here is a reference of the characters: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8mrfKNDBFhRNv2s6A

So I'm seeking someone who's good at doing sprites of anthro characters.  The animations are just the basic walk, talk, and also reaching out to get/take items.  Preferably the style of a 1980's cartoon.

Also, need to find a good background artist.  Including the objects and such.  Preferably the style of a 1980's cartoon.

Further details will be discussed as they develop.

Remember when I made that sci-fi Momotaro story for one of the past Fortnightly Writing competitions?

Well, I've got even bigger ambitions for that story now.  And some other stories like it.

Currently, I'm retooling, revamping, making a deluxe edition... basically improving that story.

Why?  I'll tell you why.  I'm planning to submit the improved version to "Fantasy & Science Fiction" magazine!

Wish me luck on the endeavor!

I just had this thought...

Suppose... for sake of discussion, if Infamous Adventures did a remake of Space Quest III?

What kind of add-ons you think might make it fresher, more than just a graphical update of the original.

(I bring this up because I had this funny thought--I bet I can make myself sound dorky enough to try out to be the voice of Elmo Pug, the head honcho of Scumsoft and main antagonist.  But maybe that's just me.)

Anyway, what are your thoughts of if Infamous Adventures does choose to do so?

At last!  The game Blondbraid and I have collaborated on is complete!

Behold--

Cola Skunkette: A Bit of Cleanup!

In this, Panphila Baniliakola needs to get rid of some offending graffiti that vandals put on the side of her "Cola Skunkette" soda shop, so her business can be family friendly again.

(The graffiti is in symbols.  That's the "Censorship" part of the theme--a "creative censoring", if you will.)

Helping her is a very polite young squirrel boy named Lucas Bolota.  Can they clean up the nasty spraypaint job before a family gets offended?

[Um, the sound effects might be a bit faint, so you may need to turn up the sound volume when playing.]

Game can be found here: https://archive.org/details/PanphilaMAGS2018
And here's the page of the game on this here site: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2277/

[Edit] In game, I mistakenly called Blondbraid "Blondbeard".  Oops! :-[

(I'm sure this is an advanced issue, but I won't object if this needs to be moved to "Beginner" stuff.)

Okay, I've been making up a custom font for a game project, as some of the characters have Norwegian names, and thus needing special characters.

So, I went to Calligraphr to make up special fonts.  I'd add them here if there were an option to.

But, instead of showing the special characters, like that ae diphthong, it just shows a box.

How do I get AGS to recognize special characters in a font?

My entry into the May 2018 MAGS competition (theme: Rats).

Help the lovely rainbow-furred skunk girl, Prism O'Breacadhanlae, get rid of a mutant ratman who's trashing her greenhouse.

The game is in a 800x600 window (assuming you set the game in windowed mode in the setup).

Here's where it is in the main AGS Games list: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2254/

The game can be found and downloaded here: https://archive.org/details/PrismMAGS_201805

[Update] Added in music and sound, courtesy of RM2K.

[Wasn't sure if this belonged in the Adventure-related chat or here, but I decided to play it safe and put it here.]

A few days ago, I had this random thought:
What if Roger Wilco of the Space Quest series met Bucky O'Hare?

If the Tide Pod Challenge wasn't stupid (and dangerous) enough, we got this...

http://www.fhm.com/posts/smoking-bug-spray-156471

Seriously, this makes the Tide Pod Challenge (as well as Salim's hookah from Quest for Glory III) look safe in comparison.

Remember--drugs are bad, m'kay?

I've finally got my game for February 2018 MAGS complete.  (Granted, I could never get the volume bar in the system panel to work, but did get speed to work--sort of).

Behold...

White Bear Beauty Chlorinde and the Paranormal Parrot

The lovely Chlorinde, a beautiful white bear girl, has entered an old house on the beach, which has been abandoned for years--and meets a parrot with psychic powers.  Together, they go on a treasure hunt.

Since Chlorinde is in a bikini (thus without pockets), whenever she finds an item needed to open the secret way, the parrot will transport it to near where she needs it.

You can download the game here: https://archive.org/details/ChlorindeMAGS
Here's the page of the game here in the AGS site: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2241/

Okay, I've been trying to get the game to finish up... but the things that were not causing me trouble before are now the things causing me trouble.

In the past, I tried to get the player character to pick up each object before, and it worked fine in the other rooms, but now it won't.  So I tried to make it a cutscene.

Here's the code:
Code: ags

function room_Load()
{
  cParrot.Scaling = 48;
  cParrot.FaceLocation(0, cParrot.y, eNoBlock);
  player.FaceLocation(480, player.y, eNoBlock);
  if((GotBakingSoda)&&(!UsedBakingSoda)){oBakingSoda.Visible = true;}
  if((GotOldScotch)&&(!UsedOldScotch)){oOldScotch.Visible = true;}
  if((GotOldFoamBeads)&&(!UsedOldFoamBeads)){oOldFoamBeads.Visible = true;}

  //Since the objects were being ornery, I had to do this.

  if(GotAllThreeItems == true)
  {
    player.Walk(387, 295, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    player.FaceCharacter(cParrot, eBlock);
    player.Say("Everything is here, Herr Parrot.");
    cParrot.Say("All right.  Start with putting the baking soda in the crack.");
    player.FaceObject(oBakingSoda, eBlock);
    player.Say("Ja.");
    UsedBakingSoda = true;
    if(oBakingSoda.Visible == true){oBakingSoda.Visible = false;}
    player.Walk(302, 256, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    Wait(40);
    player.Walk(428, 295, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    player.FaceObject(oOldFoamBeads);
    cParrot.Say("Good.  Now let's put in the Old Foam Beads so the reaction won't spill out.");
    player.Say("Right.");
    UsedOldFoamBeads = true;
    if(oOldFoamBeads.Visible == true){oOldFoamBeads.Visible = false;}
    player.Walk(302, 256, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    Wait(40);
    player.Walk(402, 295, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    player.FaceObject(oOldScotch, eBlock);
    cParrot.Say("Now to use the Old Scotch and get the reaction going.");
    player.Say("Got it!");
    UsedOldScotch = true;
    if(oOldScotch.Visible == true){oOldScotch.Visible = false;}
    player.Walk(302, 256, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
    Wait(40);
    //Sound here.
    SecretDoorOpen = true;
    if(oSecretDoor.Visible == false){oSecretDoor.Visible = true;}
    player.Say("The secret door is now open!");
    cParrot.Say("We did it!");
    cParrot.ChangeRoom(12, 289, 106);
    player.ChangeRoom(12, 300, 344);
  }
}

But after getting all three items, when I try to enter the room, the game just shows black in the window and the dang thing just freezes up!  Does AGS have a bug somewhere?

[Edit] Nevermind.  I found out what I did wrong--I had to put it in "after load".

Okay, pardon my noobness, but...

I'm redoing my one AGS project from previous year or year before (because it wasn't turning out as I'd like).

And I'm using the Verbcoin template/module/whatever provided by monkey_05_06.

But... I am not sure if the module includes the inventory coding already (by clicking the right mouse button), or if I have to implement that myself.

I want to include the usual right-click opening and closing the inventory, but not sure what code I need to put in, if monkey_05_06 hadn't included it in the module already.

Any pointers?

The Rumpus Room / Leeroooooooy Jenkiiiiiiins!
Thu 05/10/2017 18:18:14
This just came to me.

What if there were an adventure game based on the World of Warcraft player "Leeroy Jenkins"?

Here's the video to describe what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj2hOrjGSuw

I can so imagine an adventure game that makes reference to it... be it dialogue or even a Steam achievement (or maybe a GameJolt Achievement).

At least we'd still have chicken, right?

Who remembers the cartoony war game "Cannon Fodder"?

Crowd: WAR!
Me (singing): Never been so much fun!

So, anyway, anyone have some fun memories of it, if you do remember?
