Completed Game Announcements / Re: Metaphobia
Tue 02/07/2019 10:39:38
I signal boosted this game in my own blog, since I'm trying to break into the biz of freelance blog-writing, and figured it'd be a good excuse to help get the word out.

https://dboy2029.home.blog/2019/07/02/july-2nd-2019-discussing-a-recent-ags-game/

I'd try it out for myself if it weren't for my crazy current job schedule (yeah, the story of my life), but from the screenshots and trailer that I've seen, I just KNOW this'll be a smash hit!

Please keep making great games.

Yeah, again, due to my chaotic work schedule, I knew my entry would never be done in time.  So I'm working on it as a stand alone short game.

But anyway, congratulations to cat, Slasher, and Blondbraid.

Neat stuff you have here!  Looking forward to your future stuff.

Since I feel horrible and there's no way what I can have finished can compete against games made by groups, I'm going to drop out and rest.
@VampireWombat Yeah, I dropped out when I knew I couldn't complete it in time.  That and the Memorial Day Tornadoes in Dayton, Ohio caused the power to be out for two days, so that'd really screw up the plans too!

To all who have made it, good luck in the voting.

I'm trying to work on my game as much as possible, but due to my chaotic work schedule, I'm gonna be cutting it close.

If I don't make it before the deadline, I'll just treat it as a stand-alone really short game.

[Update] I'm getting the feeling I might not make it, but again, I'll still work on it and treat it as a regular short game.  Heck, I could look at past MAGS competitions and use their themes as stand-alone short games--if nothing else, as proofs of concept for some of the characters I got as adoptables (er, long story).

[Update 2] Okay, it's now obvious I'm not gonna make it in time.  I'll work on the game idea later on and, as stated earlier, treat it as a stand-alone short game.  If it weren't for my crazy work schedule, I might have made it in the end.

Or it could be that it is just paranoia, and in the end, the player's neighbors/friends/whatever were just planning a surprise birthday party or something.  Just my take.

Thanks.  I might need to keep this in mind.

THE ERA-GONE TRAIL
Spoiler
[close]

This game is the very bare-bones version of a project that will outgrow its humble MAGS roots, hopefully.

Players can ignore most of the characters' stats for now, except for the all-important HPS of each.

The other stats are signs of game play yet to come...

Watch your food levels, dodge the meteors, and gather food every now and then in the rare surviving grasslands areas... But watch out for lurking snakes!

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SURVIVE THE ERA?!

"Era-Gone Trail"?!  Well played!

Reality-on-the-Norm / Map of RotN
Tue 30/04/2019 00:02:54
So... I've been thinking.

I might try my hand with Reality-on-the-Norm.  Because I might use it if a topic in MAGS may not be something to my interest, or maybe that particular MAGS topic may be difficult for characters I want to use at the time.

In other words, if I can't make a MAGS competition entry for one reason or another, I can do a Reality-on-the-Norm game instead.

This brings me to my question, though... is there a map of Reality-on-the-Norm, per se?  Or can ROTN be any set up at the pleasure of the game's maker?

Why do I have the feeling we may not get many (if any) games this time around?

Again, I would've entered, but I'm focusing on another game (non-AGS here) right now.  That and real life is kinda getting in the way.
#171
Oh, to be able to take part in this... but if I could do so, I could probably make a mini story similar to Sonic CD.
#172
Cool.  Well, I got a lot going on right now, but good luck to all who enter.

For some reason, I'm kinda thinking of the final boss battle in Sonic Adventure 2.  (Now the song "Live & Learn" is going off in my head.)

But, anyway, good luck to all who enter this one.

[I wasn't sure if this fit with Adventure Related Talk & Chat, so I played it safe and posted in General Discussion.]

Anyone know Chills on YouTube, or at least his main channel "Top 15"s?

Well, we all know he has a creepy-yet-cool voice.  So... what if he were the voice of the narrator of a future horror-themed AGS game?  I think it'd be cool if Chills got to narrate a horror adventure game made with AGS.
#174
Yeah, I'll try again in a future MAGS--next time I'll have to do it myself so I don't unintentionally stress out possible teammates.
#175
I'm afraid I'm going to have to bow out of this--since real life is getting in the way at my end, and it's causing stress to my work partner.  I'll have to try again another time.  Or, if nothing else, try out RotN as a substitute for a MAGS competition.
#176
Well, I guess I could be one of the characters.

I totally agree that you should do this! I would subscribe, hit the notification bell, and watch and like every episode!

Now we just need someone to record themselves playing it, and then someone else to do the MSTing.
#178
I just had this funny idea...

Someone should record their playing of a game in our archives that is a Joke Game or otherwise a really bad game (that deserves its bad rating, but still playable)...

And then give the recording the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment!

I suppose that's true. But Tiny Toon Adventures was in the 90s and did at least have one regular skunk.
I am less familiar with the style of The Raccoons since it's been longer since I've seen it.
I think I can pull off something between Tiny Toon Adventures and one of the Disney Afternoon shows. Anything different and I think you'd need to find someone else.

Understandable--so perhaps in the style of the Disney afternoon shows.  Almost like Gummi Bears, but in modern times, and with skunk characters.  (laugh) I'll send a PM to talk more.

Why 1980s cartoons? Why not 1990s? That's when the majority I can think of with anthro characters were thanks to the Disney Afternoon. Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Gummi Bears...

If no one else is interested, I can see what I can do.

I'm sure Gummi Bears and Ducktales first debuted in the mid 1980's.

As for other 80's cartoon shows, how about stuff like The Raccoons?

So... I'll also make a rough map of the rooms to explore.  Maybe someone could also throw in some fun ideas for puzzles for getting the articles of clothing that Thyra needs?  (I do plan to include a clothes changing screen, similar to that one in "The Dagger of Amon Ra", behind which Laura Bow changed her clothes.)
