Hooray!  I've finally completed my MAGS entry for June 2017.

Behold:
Rosaura Docelestial: Rescue from Despair

This takes a different spin on the "Rescue" theme.  In this case, Rosaura Docelestial, the title heroine, is trying to save a young boy on Earth from his own despair.

To help him, she is planning to get three items for his birthday.

This is a 640 x 480 resolution game.  And it's better viewed in Windowed mode.  So click Winsetup to get it to Window mode.  If it does that error message that says it might not be properly installed, that's okay, as AGS is a wee bit ornery at times.  Just click the link that it was installed properly.  Then double-click "RosauraMAGS" to play.  I made it so hopefully I won't need to put something in Hints & Tips. (laugh)

You can find the game here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2163/

I'm gonna assume 1st, 2nd, and 3rd votes.

And believe me, it was a hard choice.

1st: Tabata
2nd: selmiak
3rd: Gurok

Great to see several promising entries this month!
Me and Creamy are also working on a MAGS project, a game set in late 1700s France,
about a woman who joins the storming of the Bastille in order to rescue the prisoners there.

Dude... given your past stuff, you are a MASTAH of historical themed games!

Well, I am getting closer and closer to my MAGS entry... perhaps I can enter once my MAGS game is done.

@Mandle Or perhaps when they found him as a baby, his original last name on his birth certificate was smudged.

Well, as of this post, I'm now working on the Rooms of my game project.  Compared to the more in-depth games I do (AGS or otherwise), this shouldn't take too much time.  And since I'm using the usual default (i.e. the Sierra style with icons), it shouldn't be too much a hassle (unlike trying the verb coin--I'll probably rework that idea when I pick up my Sarimento AGS again, as I plan to start over with that particular project).

[Add on] So you know, I did make up my own pictures and stuff with the Sierra style GUIs... just wanted to point that out.

Damn!  Our childhoods are taking such heavy hits these days.

(I'm still reeling from the loss of Christine Cavanaugh back in about 2014--she did the voice of Chuckie in Rugrats, Bunnie in Sonic SatAM, Gosalyn in Darkwing Duck... the list goes on)

Our cherished memories are taking such heavy punches in the gut nowadays.

People in Australia have normal names (with UK surnames being quite common) and are not named after the state they come from :P

Well, it was the best I could come up with at the time.

@Mandle Well, you know what they say--a watched pot never boils.

Anyway, thought I'd share with you another spritesheet of my project (on a side note, I did more progress in other ways too--namely a title screen, the "cutscene" of explaining Rosaura's mission, and the ending... planning to start the main rooms next time).

Here's the sprite sheet of NPCs.

The three NPCs (I limited the number to save time for the MAGS project) are as follows:

Madame Serenite: An anthro poodle lady.  She's a recent person, an elderly woman from a French speaking country who passed on from natural causes.

Chef Genio: An anthro gray cat man.  He was an Italian chef who lived in the 1800's--passed away from illness in 1869.

Taban Queenslander: A male human.  He was an Australian skater who is the most recent addition to Rosaura's heavenly neighborhood (died in a freak accident).  Oh and his arm didn't atrophy, it's just the arm near the viewer (hand on his hip) is at a "weird angle" compared to the "camera".

So, just thought you'd like to meet the NPCs that Rosaura meets with on her mission to save the child from his own despair.

Nice.  It's great this MAGS is gaining momentum, isn't it?
#432
Dang.  Similar to Yahtzee's X Days series, except you're playing as a police officer instead of a cat-burglar (so on the RIGHT side of the law this time).

Good luck with this project.

Well, semantics of names aside, I'm currently working on the character sprites in my game.

Since for time constraints, I'm sticking with the walking, talking, and give/take sprites, this shouldn't take too long...

[Update] I've finished making the sprites for the main character.  When I made them, I had the sprites separate to upload into AGS, but afterwards, I decided to make a sprite sheet so you can see what she looks like.

Yeah, I know the side view looks slightly different than the front view, as far as her face goes--didn't realize the eff up till it was too late to fix it.  If/when I do another AGS game of Rosaura Docelestial (one that isn't MAGS), I'll try to do better.

And also, I didn't intend to make her look slightly pudgy, but didn't wanna make her look anorexic either.  I guess when you're forced to go solo, there are gonna be some errors here and there...

However, a good Portuguese name always has 2 first names, So if you name her "Rosa Aura" or "Aura Rosa" you will get away with it, since they are both accepted names. ;)

I looked up the name from Babynology.com--"Rosaura" was in the list of Portuguese names.

My votes:

Concept: Rocchinator (amazing how a castaway can recycle stuff from his close brush with death to make the best of his lot)
Playability: Tycho Magnetic Anomaly (it gives me the Space Quest 6 feel, and so much to interact with too!)
Artistic Execution: Hard choice here, but in the end, I pick Nixxon (it reminds me of the Pumpkin Treehouse from King's Quest 7 in a way... and that's good)
#436
Wow!  Rocchinator's entry has kind of that LucasArts feel to it... like maybe Indiana Jones or something... or that Amazon Queen game (I forget whether or not that's LucasArts, but that game had the Lucas appeal to it).  Well played.

I've pretty much completed the brainstorming session for my game.  God willing, around Thursday (June 1st!) I'll start working on the main character's sprites.

But the title for the game I plan to make for MAGS is "Rosaura Docelestial: Rescue from Despair".

Rosaura Docelestial is an anthropomorphic skunk angel girl, the "angel cake" from a list of adoptables I gained in an art trade (er, long story).  When I got her, I wanted to give her a Portuguese name.  "Rosaura" obviously meaning "rose", and her last name "Docelestial" is a portmanteau of the Portuguese words "doce" ("sweet") and "celestial" ("heavenly").  So, "heavenly sweet".  And her nature best reflects it.

And as I said in a previous post (and as hinted in the subtitle), her mission is to rescue a young child from his own despair.  To do so, she needs to prepare three things to give for the young boy's birthday.  Hopefully more will be posted as I work on them.

I can modify your shape to fit snugly in with the others if you wish, it's only a one pixel line in a few places that's all, unless you want to mod it yourself, but I am very sorry if anyone else has downloaded the shape before I managed to get the fix uploaded.

Be my guest, bud.

Given the rules against flipping, mirroring, and resizing, I'm thankful I have a paint program that does layers, so I could have one layer for the lines, and another for the inside coloring--then lock transparency to make sure nothing spills out, but stays within the bounds.  Er, yeah. :-D

Anyway, here's my Useless Machine.  You can interpret this any way you want.
