Wet Willy

A finger is placed into the mouth to create a very wet finger, and then inserted into one of the ears of the person caught off guard.

I never understood wet willies. Someone puts their finger in their mouth, and then into anothers' ear. At the end of it, one of them has a wet ear and the other has a wet finger with someone else's earwax on it. Who comes off better in that scenario?

I like episode One:

Katerina: I am now superior officer, not Rimmer, who is...bit crap.

Rimmer: What!?

Kryten: It's confirmed sir, (points at Psy-Scan, which reads 'Bit Crap')

Um...wasn't Red Dwarf always crap?

I'm sorry limpingfish I can no longer respect you as a person.  >:(

Just watched part 3.

Part 3 was... bad. It didn't tie up any loose ends at all! (Although it does leave opportunity for a new series)

Although it was one giant blade runner reference.

That's true. I've never seen the film and I saw that.

It was... meh. Sort of funny. Not nearly as good as the old series. It also doesn't continue from the last series very well, does it? Watch the last episode of season 8, the last 'official' episode, 'Only the good...'. The first part of back to earth bears no relation to the end. I was quite dissapointed. I REALLY didn't like the whole 4th wall thing either. Tonight, the supposed last better end on an epic. I'm not holding out much hope though. It doesn't seem they can fit the end Dwarf deserves in one last 30 min episode, does it?

Anyone else dissapointed at how much of it is CGI? I miss the original scutter models.  :'(

Well.. if you did use AGS, you'd become really good at scripting.

~Trent

That's the main reason I'm a bit wary of using AGS: the scripting. Mind you, the community's so good here I should have no trouble getting the scripting right, It would just take longer. Gamemaker looks good though, so I'll check it out.

EDIT: Uh-oh, just saw the fairly small text on the GameMaker website :
The Lite Edition is meant for those taking their first steps on the path of developing games. It can be used for free but is limited in its functionality. When you are using Game Maker regularly you are strongly recommended to upgrade it to the Pro Edition for $25.
Don't know how much is cut out of the 'Lite' edition, but I can be damn sure it's a lot. I will try it, but with caution.

I'm currently coming up with concept for a platformer. I know AGS can be used to make platformers, but I'm wondering if there is any software out there (free) that would be better for the job?

Has anyone kept one of these ancient games, even though it no longer works, just in case a fix is released? There's wishful thinking, and then there's keeping a decade old game for no reason.

There are (no offense) lots of problems with this.

For a start, the skin is far too pale, but most importantly, google World War 1 soldier- that uniform looks nothing like a world war 1 uniform. - Here

And you've fallen into the pitfall many new artists fall into by placing the lightsource directly between the observer and the object- pillow shading. - A good Shading tutorial Here.

But for a very first sprite, it's not awful. It's not great, but I've seen things a lot worse passed off as sprites.

Okay, games that get me EVERY FREAKING TIME:

Command and Conquer
Monkey Island series
Sonic the hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive
Broken Sword 1&2
Age Of empires
Blade Runner (never seen the film, got the game)
Baldur's Gate
Deus Ex.

My family wasn't particularly rich when I was younger (we aren't now, but we are better off than we were) -We weren't in serious trouble with money, we just didn't have any spare for things like computer games. So I grew up on a mixture of my big brother's games- Age of empires, Command and Conquer, Monkey Island, and a Mega Drive almost older than me (We kept it until we moved house in 2003- It was in perfectly good working order as well), and a mixture of games bought for me- Like Deus Ex, and Broken Sword- these games stand out particularly.

By the way, anyone else get this? Most of all, above all else, the thing that makes me nostalgia the most is music. The music is the key.

I was too young to see the arcade machines sadly, and in too remote a part of the country   :(.

And suddenly the whole AGS community is a group of upper-class critics, who don't stoop as low as the level of puerile childishness that 'The Wheels on the bus' is.

We only think it's brown because the CIA puts a chemical in our tapwater which makes everyone a little colourblind- It's really red. ;)

Okay, damn, I just re-watched the youtube video, and realized my rubbish I came up with earlier is just about as pheasible. Come on, folks- this is BS. Kudos on song choice though.

Don't be such a fool VinceTwelve.

Jupiter isn't visible to the naked eye, that's Charon, Pluto's moon, which was moved artificially and painted by NASA to simulate Jupiter after the entire Earth and the Moon was moved to roughly 0.1AU from  the REAL Jupiter.
That way, when Jupiter ignited in 1945 it would look like The Sun, and the actual Sun was moved to a distant solar system where no-one would miss it (It eventually exploded into a black hole and became the center of the Milky Way in 1978), and the rest of the planets were moved accordingly so it would look like nothing had changed.
The government did all this so they could use Mars (which remained in it's original place where the 'old' solar system was) to fake the moon landings in 1967 (time was fast-forwarded by space beings so we thought it was 1969), as the actual Moon landings are impossible due to the moon being over nine thousand lightyears away (but it's really big so it looks closer.).
Planet X, (which is actually Earth's twin flung farther away from us by a gravity whip created by Area 51's underground test on a micro-black hole in 1888) became the new mars. after being painted red, of course! All of this interplanetary movement created a rift in space-time which weaked the structure of the twin towers so the government demolished them and blamed the middle east.
While moving the planets we disturbed an ancient species, (who are actually the creators of the humans) the last of which died in 1945 at roswell. Just before their extiction, they travelled back in time to 1912 and crashed one of their ships into one of ours- the Titanic, (which as we all know wasn't really the titanic but a fake 'sister' ship to it that was going to be intentionally sunk to claim insurance, before the alien ship sunk it)

They have a ridiculously poor definition of the term 'Funny'.

You see, 'Funny' things tend to make people laugh.

This does not.

This thread made my brain sad
That's not the worst- look at the youtube comments, these morons actually believe it. Some are actually argueing for it, look:

Quote from:  Some Youtube Dumbass, in response to 'Jupiter cannot ignite'I say you give us evidnce then smartass.
how can you think your say-so is more credible than this video ???
Show EVIDENCE or shutup! :) OK.
It would explain EVERYTHING, dont yousee ?FEMA camps, collaps of economy and Bunkers...POLESHIFT .
With a small piece of brain you would see that. ''The Diseaster that are coming' , rember ?? this is it .. Planet X, up close and personal..

Andail, my brain is sad also.

For everyone else:

JUPITER WOULD NEED TO BE 93 TIMES MORE MASSIVE TO BECOME A STAR
- The smallest star found in the sky with nuclear fusion in the core is AB Doradus,, barely 93 times Jupiter's mass. Below ~80 Jupiter masses, stars do not form, and instead become brown dwarves. These technically aren't stars, so they are called 'failed stars'.

As for 'Youtube Dumbass', he's either a troll or completely backwards. Regardless which, I've gone against my every instict and left a comment.

Get item...use item...talk to character...pass arbitrary barrier...get item...use item...talk to character...pass arbitrary barrier...end boss...get item...use item within time limit...watch cutscene...end.

With a decent plot and backstory, and well developed characters, this isn't always a bad formula.

But with bad storytelling, this becomes a nightmare.

Great storytelling + Bad puzzle design = Good Game

Great storytelling + Great puzzle design = OMG HOLY GRAIL UNPOSSIBLE

British person here, so uneducated opinion coming up.

The problem as I see it is that of most governments- competition.

The Republicans generally have opposing thoughts on how america should be run to Democrats. So when a Republican is in office, and when something goes wrong, (It always does) the country will be more biased towards the democrats next election. Most people voted against the Republicans last year, rather than for the Democrats. When the Democrat takes over, he promises to undo the damage caused by the Republican. But something goes wrong, and the country goes republican next election. A republican who promises to undo the Democrat's mistakes... and the cycle continues. The war between the two parties mean nothing actually gets done.

Personally, I wish Obama good luck (as I would have voted for him, were I american, and old enough. :-\) and I hope he does well. The only way to tell is to wait. He'll never do what he promised in four years, or maybe even eight years. That's another problem- each president needs his successor to work with him, rather than against him, otherwise absolutely nothing will be done.

You threw in everything? IIRC, there is a walking dead scenario there. I always used the feather or bookmark to ignite. Seems you've got to load, sorry. :'(

I'm  guessing you didn't save much (or at all) during your speed run, am I right?

I thought MI4 came out after XP? I was able to get it to run on my XP system... once upon a time.

Nope. MI4 released November 2000
Windows XP released October 2001

MI 4 Began development in early  1999 (wow, 1999 is a decade ago! :o)
XP Began development December 1999

There's no way MI4 would be designed to be XP-compatible, as XP didn't really exist. Minimum specs (on the box) State Windows 95/98 needed.

MI4 on vista? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA Not a chance.

Also, In reply to Akatosh's oblivion troubles, anyone played KotOR/KotORII ? Anyone tried to play it successfully on an ATI card? Fat chance. the problems with ATI's catalyst drivers were reported by KotOR players back when catalyst 5(ish) was released. No fix ever came, from bioware or ATI.
