There are some major perspective issues at work here ...

I'd strongly suggest (unless you're going for that off-kilter look) tightening it up a bit perspective wise.

Also ... there is almost no shading.  The shirts on the bed appear as part of the pattern of the bedspread rather than as if they're setting on top of it.  There is an inconsistency of line-weight as well (though that only slightly bugs me)

It's a good start but the lack of perspective and shading detracts from the image over-all.

I have DS ... it is an effective paper-weight on my desk.

I played it for awhile, but now I'm back to my trusty ol' GBA (I only ever play Tetris Worlds anyway).

There were/are some really cool features on the DS.  I got this little DS cart that you plug an SD card into and it plugs into the DS game slot and has it's own OS on it.  Which I totally customized (loading screen, backgrounds, interface, etc.)  Came with a NES emulator too (which of course I own all the games I use in emulation)

This new one doesn't (to me) look as cool as the one I have and the new features are just blah.  At first I thought 0.3 megapixels was crap ... but I'm inclined to think that decision to put that low of a resolution camera was more to match the screens' resolutions rather than as a digital camera replacement (there are probably games coming out where you can use the DSi's camera to put your face on the characters (something like that)).  There are some pretty damn clever uses of the dual screens being put in use on that thing.

I don't know if I'm qualified to guess though ... I am, after all, the guy that bought a PS3 just for the bluray player.  I don't own a single game for it.

Quote from: TerranRich on Sun 09/11/2008 19:45:061. Something like the Amero or a unified North America would have been made very public and legitimized in the news.
2. This myth is based on a meeting of the leaders of Canada, US, and Mexico in 2005.
3. If I say something isn't true because there is no clear evidence to support it, why should *I* be the one that tries to prove my case?

Ouch ... Jeez man I wasn't trying to offend/attack you.  I was just curious if you had some insider scoop the rest of us weren't privy too.

You said:
Quote from: TerranRich on Sat 08/11/2008 18:23:50That whole North American unified currency thing is, and always has been, completely false. It was a rumor started long ago. There will be no "Amero", nor any other unified North American currency.

Nowhere in there did you say, "there is no clear evidence to support it".

You made a few absolute statements with "no clear evidence to support them".

I don't think it's unreasonable for somebody to wonder why and how you acquired such surety on the matter, that's all :)

Now now ... rules is rules.

It's an interesting way to go about making a game I suppose but, alas, does not [yet] belong in the GiP.

Post in the Need Help with Your Game thread for the time being.  Then, when screenshots are ready ... let me know and I can unlock this, or you can start a new thread.

Moving this to the Adventure Related Talk & Chat

Look forward to seein' what you come up with!

I was talking to a 'friend' the other day about the ol' Amero myth (I say 'friend' because he's more of somebody I associate with 'cause of another friend but we don't really like each other).

Anyway ... this guy is so sure that he's right about everything that he simply won't give credence to anybody else's ideas.  I always rib him about it and try to explain that disagreeing is okay but doesn't automatically make your idea right (as I attempted to point out earlier in the thread but apparently didn't succeed in getting the point across).  He just arbitrarily dismisses any idea that doesn't mesh with his and call you names and insult you.  That kind of close-minded unwillingness to other's ideas just comes across as ignorant and arrogant.  It's sad too 'cause he's actually a really smart guy.

Anyway ... he's convinced that the Amero will be the end of civilization as we know it!

Terran - you sound pretty convinced of its myth status ... do you have a source to back that up?  I'm just curious if you're 'in the know' on something?

It seems unlikely, to me, that we would switch currency like that given all the things I've heard recently about how the dollar's (ones, fives, tens, etc) appearance is being altered, made counterfeit proof, and updated but I concede it's not impossible that it's "time for a change".

Personally I'd not mind it if paper currency went away entirely ...

Quote from: TerranRich on Wed 05/11/2008 17:45:33Darth, your claims about McCain winning were silly to begin with. ;)

I do not think it was silly in the slightest and neither did most* of the other people I have discussed the matter with.

But hey ... to each their own :P

Whatever; if nothing else I'm enjoying seeing the positive reactions (in the news and even just around my office here) that his election has generated.

Anyway ... I'm going off to ride some dinosaurs with Jesus now.

* for clarification purposes, the term 'most', as used in that sentence, does not mean EVERYbody.

posting from my iPhone ... Just wanted to be the first to say I've never been so glad to be wrong (about McCain winning despite the popular vote)

If nothing else the rest of the world seems to be happy about it

I'm planning on having it be the standard Mittens length, one week, most likely from Wednesday to Wednesday.  This means July 22-29, 2009.  Are these dates good for those interested in attending?

Not sure I'll be able to get a flight ... I'll have to check. :P
#2009
I knew you meant Bimini after Mittens!  Just wasn't sure about the other ... and Disney World is in Florida ... just a bit to the North! :)

There is a water park in West Palm Beach (probably about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from where we'll be staying) that is pretty nice!!  It's closed for the season now and doesn't list (on their website) when they are 'in season' but it might be open during mittens!

Quote from: Pumaman on Sun 02/11/2008 16:04:13If you look back in the thread, we've already discussed going down a couple of days early/staying a couple of days late to visit the Orlando theme parks, so it wouldn't be part of Mittens but some of us are definitely considering doing it before/afterwards.

Yup, I just didn't think we'd come up with anything solid!  Before/After is a much better idea I agree (and will be there either way!)

And I agree with Grundi ... staying in the Miami area for the week of Mittens is a good idea!

Very nice!  I love Dee Gale ... subtle and clever :)  Lookin' forward to playing!

Congrats on finishing!!

I'm on board for an excursion to Bimini ... I flew over it in a small plane a few years back on my way to the Bahamas!  Got an aerial view of the 'Bimini Road' and I said "Some day I'm gonna go back and dive on that road!"  So it would be awesome to get a group to go!  I'm all about 'roughin' it with some tents!

As for the 'movie' studios ... are you talking of Disney World?  That's in Orlando and would take a major chunk out of the Mittens week.  It's a (roughly) 3.5 hour drive from Miami (depending on where we all end up staying) and you need at minimum 2 full days to do it right!  A 3-day 'park hopper' pass (which allows you to just go back and forth from park to park) will cost about 150-200 USD.

When I was a kid I used to have that same dream (about jumping/falling down the stairs).  One time I had the dream and woke up at the bottom of the stairs.  No injuries so I don't think I actually did it, but it was creepy.

Another time I had a dream I was in a cramped space ship and woke up in the hamper in the bathroom.  Talk about crazy!!

Quote from: Nacho on Thu 30/10/2008 16:28:29And you were close of me and Lorena during all mittens without warning us of your ray appealing hobby? Damn you!!!

Actually it was done out of love!!  You see?  I've never been hit by lightning, only close calls!!

So being close to me is actually the safest place!!

Quote from: TerranRich on Thu 30/10/2008 16:47:20God hates you, Darth, but apparently has really bad aim. ;)

I am grateful for his bad aim!  I just wish I knew what I was doing to piss him off in the first place!

Quote from: TerranRich on Thu 30/10/2008 16:49:59I've had sleep paralysis before, but no visions. Instead, I have these terrible feelings of an other-worldly presence, somewhere out of sight. Of course I can't turn my head to look, I just lay there, unable to move, while a loud buzzing sound scares me half to death. I have to literally jerk my body, like "snapping" back to reality.

Yeah, same thing for me from time to time.

I have a theory (and it's not just my theory) that 'alien abductions' are actually just cases of sleep paralysis.

I have, at four times in my life, been almost struck by lightning.

First time...

I was sitting on a porch swing watching the thunderstorm (as I always did as a kid).  I was holding the metal chain as I was swinging.  All of a sudden I felt the charge, my arm shot arrow straight and locked in place.  I remember looking down my arm and it appeared to stretch WAY out (looked like miles).  We found out later that lighting had struck the lightning rod on the roof and the (albeit weakened) current found a path down into the swing's chain and through me!

Second time...

I was sitting at my computer in my apartment (which was right by the door wall to the balcony).  It was starting to thunder so I was shuttin' my computer down.  Before I could finish the room went entirely white and I couldn't hear anything.  When my vision came back I was on the other side of the room, on my ass, up against the wall.  I have no memory of covering the distance between the computer chair and the wall (probably about 30 feet).  The balcony was singed black and every hair on my body was on ends.  The fillings in my teeth were also hot.

Third time ...

I was at a picnic at a local park when it started thundering and raining.  We were out in this field so we all started running back to the pavilion.  About 1/2 way back a HUGE bolt struck the flag pole about 20 yards away from me.  Didn't do much more than hurt my ears and make my hair stand up, but it was the most visible strike up to that time.

Fourth time ...

This was just about 2 weeks ago.  I was sitting in my office (on the 5th (top) floor of the building) and it was really kickin' up outside.  I turned to look at a co-worker and saw a huge brightspot just out (and up) the window.  The room went white (though not totally as the second strike) but the thunder-crack that came at the same instant was so loud my ears rang for awhile.  The air smelled bad and we all compared arm-hair standing up.  We tried to find where the lightning had hit (it was very close) but there was no visible scars that we could see.

I think I am a lightning magnet.

I should probably play the lotto...

I've heard that the "not being able to run thing" has something to do with the mechanism that partially paralyzes us will we are sleeping.  Such a mechanism is required else we would go about wreaking havoc in our sleep.

I never thought of that before.  That's very probably true!  I often have sleep paralysis.  I wake up from a dream (partially) but cannot move because my body is still paralyzed.  For those that don't know, what Rick is talking about, is that when you sleep your body excretes some hormone that paralyzes your muscles to prevent you from acting out your dream(s) while sleeping.  Sometimes the mind partially wakes up but the body is still paralyzed and it leads to some interesting (and often terrifying) experiences.

One time I 'awoke' but couldn't move.  I was on my side facing the window.  The window was open and three HUGE dragonflies flew in through the window and hovered over me drooling all over me and glaring menacingly at me with evil intent!!

Another time I awoke, on my back, and there was a little man standing on my chest.  I couldn't lower my head to look directly at him, but I could just see him in my lower peripheral vision.  He didn't talk, but just stood there.  I could even feel his feet on my chest.

This happens to me quite frequently.  I think I'm just prone to it.  I don't have the facts, but I'd wager that sleep-walkers are people who's bodies don't always produce the paralyzing hormone.

There are a couple of utilities that you can use (I even use 'em from time to time) for generating palettes that 'work' together!

There are tons of these out there (some better than others).
