AGS Games in Production / Re: Drugbust

That looks rad!!

I can hear the Miami Vice theme playing.  Will the game feature techno-y 80's music?  Totally excellent.

How about a little bit about the game.

What's the plot/point of it?

Quote from: InCreator on Tue 04/10/2005 14:31:30* Use 100% opacity brush, preferrably not-antialiased so grass wouldn't look so blurry

Actually, I did do that ;)

I resized the image to make it smaller (file size).  And it blurred it in the process.

exsecratus - glad you found it usefull!  Good luck in your attempt!

I took a quick stab at it ...

I used a brush in Photoshop (as Traveler suggested).  Used several layers of varying size and scattter, as well as color and contrast.  Then combined them all and "faded" it out a bit towards the horizon (using a layer mask).

It could look better, but I didn't spend that long  on it.  Just wanted to give you some ideas.

Oh ... and I added the sky.  Wasn't sure you needed help there, but the image needed it I felt :)

It looks like a background from the movie, "The Village".  Which is a good thing!

Hope it helped!

I use photoshop for EVERY thing I do.  I find it very easy to use for pixel art.

Granted I've been using Photoshop for over a decade, so I'm very comfortable with it.

If you're new to pixel art, and new to photoshop, I can understand that it would be difficult.

Quote from: Minimi on Mon 03/10/2005 22:40:13Goto "zonwering", "binnen", and choose one of the green buttons. You'll see a flash presentation, but it overlapse the side of the page. How can fix this? The presentation isn't too large, but it just overlaps. Thanks in advance!

This doesn't look like over-lapping to me.  It looks like the HTML is leaving a space for the scrollbar, which isn't needed on that page.  I noticed, on all pages I viewed, that the scrollbar is 1/2 way on the black border line.  At frist I thought it was intentional (and I rather like it!) but maybe you don't mean for that to happen?  If that's the case, it's not the Flash that's over lapping.  But perhaps the table/frame structure.

Quote from: Minimi on Mon 03/10/2005 22:40:13Another question. Is it possible to give a double ID in html to an item? Because I want to make that the green buttons will be shown only when you click Binnen, and not immediatley.

It's not possible as far as I know.  Unless you use javascript to change the properties.  But if you're going to use javascript to do that, you may as well just use it build an expandable/collapsable menue system!

Do you use 1 menue system that is "included" on each page?  Or do you have to update the menu on each and every page?

Well when you have "definitive" backgrounds let me know.

I've been through it before ... trust me when I tell you, it's definitely not worth hurting/killing yourself over.

Though I do like the Creed reference.

I know it seems like the world is caving in on you, but believe me, years from now you'll think it was silly to feel that way.

Hang in there.

The purpose of a tech demo (at least in my case) was to showcase the technical stuff in the game.  Not to show what AGS can do, but you've done with it.

For example:  When I was working on JP & Cosmo I released just a two room demo showcasing how the walls disappear.  Nobody had, to my knowledge, done that before.  That was the reason I released a "tech" demo.

However, fovmester didn't say a "tech" demo.  He just said a demo.  Which I take (given he also mentioned it would contain only the first night) to be more of a "teaser" than a "tech" demo.

And I'm all for that!  :)

I have stated this before 'round these parts, but I'll say it again.

I think, a lot of the time, it's the director.  Not necessarily if they are a great director, but how well they work with the actor/actress.

Nicolas Cage, like most actors, has his great roles, and he has his bad roles.

As Daniel mentioned (good to "see" you again DG!) Leaving Las Vegas which was directed by Mike Figgis.  A less than well known director (watch The Loss of Sexual Innocense it's ... interesting).  This is a great performance by Mr. Cage.

My favorite Cage movie is Red Rock West directed by John Dahl (who directed Rounders and The Last Seduction).  It's a little known movie and not a great one, but it was a good preformance by Cage.

But then you have the gems like Windtalkers and Firebirds.

I am not a fan of Nicolas Cage, I don't hate him but, I can understand your feelings Kinoko.

I have this friend who hates both Nicolas Cage and Bret Favre with such passion it sometimes scares me.  I think you'd like him Kinoko :)

Quote from: PaulyB on Sat 01/10/2005 15:57:11Thanks for that, i'll get working on getting it in perspective..
Oh and by the way, did you set the vanishing points by hand manually or did you use some software?

You're welcome :)

I took the two bottom wall/floor lines and made the vanishing point where they intersect.  So ... basically by hand, but not just guessing!  It seems confusing, but once you get it, it's easy to work with.

Raising and/or lowering the vanishing point  can change the "feeling" of the room.

If I want a laid back/somber feeling I might lower it a bit.  If I want a more dramatic feel I raise it a bit.

Lighting is really the key to convey these "feelings" but you'd be suprised how much the angle helps!

Quote from: PaulyB on Sat 01/10/2005 02:28:54- the bottom window line - i'm not sure how that should look, does the line need to go up or down a bit??

- make all the diagonal lines flow to one point - also this bit of advice conufses me, do you mean i need to make all the lines straight, or shall i make them all point in the same direction??

- red lines flow towards the vanishing point.  Keeps things in perspective.
- black lines show where the wall, door and window lines should be

So you see, the ceiling lines are off too (I forgot to draw their black lines).

Hope that helps.

I rather like this.  It's such a pleasing style.

I think adding the mountain in the background is a good idea but the rest looks pretty great!

Quote from: SteveMcCrea on Fri 30/09/2005 23:31:17I was just about to say his shading style reminded me a lot of yours, Squinky.

Yes indeed.

Quote from: Squinky on Fri 30/09/2005 23:18:29Nice stuff. Your pics make me wanna start up making games again.

I think they look good ... could you post some actual size screeshots?  Or at least link the thumbnails to full size shots?

What kind of strange phenomena are they encountering?

The second screen-shot looks familiar?

I thought I was the only one who watched the show ...

I too was pissed when they cancelled the show.  I think it was just a few years ahead of it's time.  People just weren't ready for a show with that much substance.

I will be seeing the movie as soon as is possible.

My next big vacation will be Australia.

I love the images of the elevated train tracks and the waterfalls.

Good stuff.

Quote from: Darth Mandarb on Mon 26/09/2005 15:19:49Also, I love the sprite of the little girl.  She looks a bit like the daughter from 'The Incredibles'!

That's what I thought too.

Never ceases to amaze me ...

yurina - you must have missed this part of the FORUM RULES when you read them:

DO NOT dig up old threads!!
If you're interested in an old thread* about a project don't post asking about the progress.  Send a PM to the game's author.  If the project has been cancelled and/or abandoned there's no point in bumping the thread!

* Old Threads are threads that have been inactive for near to over 1 month OR are no longer on the first page of threads.

Or ... you somehow managed to miss the sticky thread, in bold, up top, which says "READ BEFORE POSTING"

Kinoko - I know you're busy living abroad ... how about an update now that this thread has resurfaced ;)
