What is the Photoshoppin' Contest?

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved. Also you can check out the earlier Photoshop contests in this forum.

Note: Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, Gimp or any other ~equally good programs can be used.

This week:
Makin' Comix
(Thanks to SSH for the idea!)

You must make a 4 pane comic strip which contains the following dialog options:

1) "Wow, that's a large turtle you've got there!"
2) "It's all about economics."
3) "Start a war?Ã,  Who do you think I am, George Bush?"
4) "You know what they say, it's all in the hips."
5) "Eek, my underwear is on backwards!"
6) "It had to come to an end sometime ..."

Parameters
- 4 panes can be any style (4 up, 2x2, 4 across, 3 little 1 big, etc)
- each pane must contain at least 1 piece of dialog
- each pane must contain some photoshoppin' and not just a cut 'n paste image
- all 6 dialog options must be used
- dialog options can be captions, speech, thoughts, etc. (they don't have to be only speech bubbles)
- comic strip must contain at least 1 human, and one animal (doesn't have to be a turtle)

This contest will be judged more on creativity than photshopping technique (though that'll be considered too!).Ã,  It's more about using the dialog and your imagination!

Good luck and have fun!

As some of you already know, I have been working on the sequel JP & Cosmo.Ã,  I haven't announced it in the GiP yet, because I don't feel I'm far enough along.

I am, however, at the point where I want to start getting some feedback on the art work.

Here are some of the characters you'll meet in the game:

From left to right they are: JP, Cosmo McGillicuddy, Endipity, Admiral Hoenes, Lt. Oscar, and a soldier.

I'm pretty pleased with them, but the CL has always been a great help to me and if I can improve on these I'd really like to!

The only thing I won't change is their slightly over-sized heads.Ã,  I like the style and want to stick with it.Ã,  It's kind of my thing ;)

Any feedback is appreciated!

The one problem I see when talking about a mulitcultural society is, "where will people live?"Ã,  I just can't see a time when there won't be problems when cultures collide.Ã,  Most people like to live around other people who are of a 'like mind'.Ã,  People who share the same ideals, beliefs, etc.Ã,  I don't think this is a bad thing, rather I think it should be embraced!

Now ...

Should people isolate themselves from dealing with other cultures?Ã,  Certainly not.

Should people dislike other cultures simply because they're different?Ã,  Obviously not.

But take this example:

Let's say I live in a neighborhood of 30 people and we're all 'Culture A'.

Now, let's say a person of 'Culture B' moves into our community.

Multi-culturalism dictates that we all say, "Welcome to the neighborhood!" and all that shit being 'polite and PC'.Ã,  We don't mind that this person isn't 'Culture A', but we're [understandably] concerned, because we don't know much about 'Culture B' and what it's all about.

Now lets say that this new neighbor of 'Culture B' has a cultural practice of running through the backyard banging large metallic objects together from 2am - 5am when the rest of the neighborhood (Culture A) is trying to sleep as is their practice at this time.

Should the 30 people of 'Culture A' have to accept this, and be multi-cultural, simply because it's 'Culture B's way of life?

The answer is no.

It's not wrong to feel this way.

In the modern day, however, the 'Culture B' neighbor will just piss and moan about multiculturalism and oppression until he's granted the right to make this nightly noise.Ã,  Which will then anger all of the 'Culture A' folk and cause resentment towards the people of 'Culture B'.Ã,  Then the problem just goes on and on.Ã,  Sure, 'Culture B' now gets to maintain their practices, but now 'Culture A', whose practice is to sleep at night, can no longer do that.Ã,  That's not multiculturalism, or fair.

Think of it this way:

If you're of 'Culture B' and you live in a place where you're outnumbered by 'Culture A' you need to respect their way of life and not make this noise at night.Ã,  And vice versa, if you're of 'Culture A' and you live in a place where you're outnumbered by 'Culture B' you need to accept the nightly noise escapades.

Tolerance, understanding, acceptance, and fairness.

THAT is true multiculturism to me.

The green lines are to show you where the perspective vanishes ... the vanishing point.

I used the two ceiling lines to determine the room's vanishing point and then connected a few of the room's objects to that vp to show you where the perspective has gone a little off.

The main problem as I see it (which is almost always the case) is the lack of perspective discipline!

It's pretty good, but too many lines don't follow perspective:

- green lines are perspective lines
- blue circles are trouble spots (there are more, but these I noticed most!)
- the computer monitor shelf, and the top shelf of the bookcase need the most attention.

The layout is good, if you just make the perspective corrections it'll be a great bg!Ã,  I would suggest adding some contrast to the walls (maybe shading one or two a little darker) to seperate them.

Hope it helps!

In all seriousness, welcome home!

I, too, hope they do the original ending and give them a cold (or something like that) rather than screwing it up and giving them a computer virus (which was already done in Independance Day anyway).

I don't think it'll be a computer virus though ... it looked to me, in the teaser, that it takes place in the 40's era America.

Maybe the Nazis invited the aliens?Ã,  You know how Spielberg likes puttin' those guys in his movies!

I'm extending the timeline (unless anybody has a problem with that?).

Come on guys ... Farl?  Somebody?  This is a fun topic!  ENTER ENTER ENTER :)

You've got another week to polish the background and enter it!

GO!

Farl - what about "Saving Private Ryan"?Ã,  You didn't like that? ;)

War of the Worlds could be good ... that trailer is for shit 'cause it doesn't really show you anything, but I'm eager to see more.

I'm a huge fan of Spielberg.Ã,  I didn't really like AI that much, but that was Spielberg taking over for Kubric ... so it was bound to be different (which is was).Ã,  Hook is one of my favorite movies of all time.

I would also have to agree with lgm about Cruise ... he's definately gotten better and more intense.  Not only was he great in Collatoral, but watch Magnolia and The Last Samurai as well.  He was outstanding (in my opinion) in all three films.

Darths wild west one.Ã,  - Darth Mandarb
Ummm ... I'm not working on a wild west game!?

I am working on two, as of yet unannounced, games.Ã,  I guess this as good a time as any to say something about one of them (the other is a surprise!).Ã,  I've been working on the sequel to JP & Cosmo (my first game).Ã,  It's MUCH more complex, lengthy, and graphically pleasing.Ã,  Look for it soon in the CL and GiP forums :)

Don't ask me about the other one ... I'm keepin' that one secret for you all!

I'm going to list my top 2 most anticipated games:

1) City of Fortune by Bernie - this game looks incredible.Ã,  Might give JP & Cosmo II a run for it's money for next year's "Best Graphics" award :)

2) Stan and Sancho and Pirate Provencher's Gold - I love Squinky's style ... this game looks great and I hope (fingers crossed) that he finishes it!

Honorable mentions:
- Lost Lagoon
- Rise of the Hidden Sun
- and of course, FoY

I should like to say that if your game is seriously in production I'm anticipating it ... these are just at the top of my list.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Michelin in bikini
Sun 12/12/2004 19:07:39
I did this quickly :

The bra strap on the left shoulder looks like it goes out to the shoulder where the right strap hugs the neckline.Ã,  Both are possible styles of bikinis, but you wouldn't (I don't think) see them mixed.Ã,  I corrected the left shoulder and moved the strap in to the neck area.

The part that wraps around to the back ... you had it going down around the arm fat and it looked awkward to me.Ã,  I made the arm fat going over the strap instead.

Hope it helps!

The problem I see is the 'cross over' between the two legs ... it seems to twitch a little.

Darkening the back leg (as Farl suggested) could help a little, but the twitch will probably still be apparent.Ã,  To me it looks like the last two frames the legs occupy the same frame as the other one in the previous frame ... thus I'm seeing a twitch.Ã,  I hope that made sense 'cause it was hard to explain.Ã,  :)

The motion is fluid and nice except for that one tiny little thing.Ã,  Good job!

Technically I supposed you have enough to start this thread, but what about the development of the game?  How far are you with the scripting and puzzles?  Have you put anything together in AGS yet?  Just curious.

I think the atmosphere looks pretty good ... and the pimp looks familiar, was he posted in the CL before?

The story, while a bit on the cliche side, sounds in depth enough to be interesting and involving.

I like the idea of another RON type series.

With so many entries I'm honored to be chosen ;)

Good entry Synth ... I've started the new competition.  Hopefully a few more people will enter this time around!

This week's topic:
Santa Claus ALTERED

What is that you ask?Ã,  You must do something unique with a sprite of Santa Claus ... think Satan Claus, Santa's Claws, etc.Ã,  It can be cute, scary, erotic (yes erotic!), ANYthing!Ã,  The sky's the limit!Ã,  I got this idea while working on this sprite for the sprite jam at the end of November ...

Size: must be 200x200 or smaller

Colors: no restrictionÃ,  but must contain RED, GREEN, and WHITE

Parameters: must be at least recognizable as Santa Claus in some way

Hopefully the spirit of the holiday season will infuse more than
just Synth and I to enter this week's competition :)

Good luck to all!

My first wacom tablet did this same thing ... so I bought another one.

Then when I upgraded to Windows XP a few years ago, the new tablet started doing it again.Ã,  I was pretty ticked and couldn't solve the problem so I shelved the tablet for a bit (as Ishmael suggested) but when I took it out a year later it still didn't work.

This however might not have been a bad thing because with no tablet I started messing around with pixel art and that lead me down the road to AGS!

I don't think I had to take a test when registering ... but I can't remember what I had for breakfast, much of a less something from damn near two years ago!Ã,  (Good lord has it been that long?)

You know what's funny ... is that while your objections to the lack of 'guests rights' make sense to you now, if you register and hang around the boards for a good ammount of time, they'll no longer make sense.Ã,  Just a hunch ;)

Come on man ... register ... I triple dog dare ya!!

I wonder if nobody is entering because they are as uncomfortable as I was drawing their mother's chest area ...

My mom is a teacher.Ã,  However, if she were an adventure game character she'd probably have some dark secret side you don't discover until near the end of the game.Ã,  So here she is:

Teacher by day, CIA assassin by night!
