I posted this up on the RON forums, but I figured I'd post it here as well.Ã,

"Without a Prayer" chronicles the adventures of Rasputin Finch, a travelling conman priest whose wanderings take him to Reality. He decides to settle down in RON and open up a real church, complete with dancing girls and casino ("...cause if you're selling salvation, you've gotta attract sinners"). His quest to build this tabernacle erupts in lots of wacky hijinx that will certainly offend the religious right. Or at least, one can hope.

Some minor RON characters will be developed a little; including Ian Wulfe, Elaine Chappel, Kyojo and Pete Bailey. The new sprites will be drawn by our very own Wogoat.

A small demo is available here:

Here are some screenshots. RON veterans will have seen these backgrounds before, but I thought you might enjoy the dialog snippets:

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

This week's photoshop topic is...

DISCO FEVER!

Our favorite adventure game characters (commercial or AGS) go back in time to the 70s to get their groove on at the local disco.Ã,  Portray what you think they would look like here!Ã,  I'd show an example, but I'm currently at a cyber cafe in Montreal and have no access to Photoshop myself.

Have fun.

I honestly don't know what's causing this, as I didn't change the default GUI code one iota.Ã,  Any advise is appreciated.

General Discussion / Ronald Regan, dead at 93
Tue 08/06/2004 02:26:13
The news has been on every news channel today, along with every editorialist and their cousin voicing their opinion of the man.  I usually bad-mouth the Regan years, but that is only when I view him through older and world-weary eyes.  When I was a little kid, his warm personality and easy-going maner always gave me an inexplicable sense of security.  He was the earliest U.S. president I can remember existing.  Ah well.  So long, Gipper.

This character is supposed to be a conman priest. I like the way it turned out, but I think I could use some advice on shading.  Any pointers are appreciated!  :)

Greetings all,

There's been a project brewing between me and my design partner for a few months now. You might have read about it in a recent "A" Zine interview, and here is the official announcement.  The game is called Crooked Mile, and it's a Police Quest-style point & click adventure. We're looking to create a compelling, interesting throwback to Golden Age adventures, and we believe we've come up with a great police detective story as well as some other great ideas.

Now we need some help on the technical side. We're looking for one or two artists, an animator, and a music/sound coordinator to join Wind Tunnel Studios. We are planning to release this game commercially, so there will be some financial compensation involved. We can discuss all the details. We're looking for serious, long-term commitments, as we have tentative plans for multiple games beyond this one.

If you are at all interested in being a part of this project, please e-mail us at windtunnelstudios@yahoo.com. We'd love to discuss our project further with you.

I am well aware of the community attitude towards posts like these, but I am hoping that most of you know me well enough to believe that this is for real.

Thanks!

-Dave

This week's challange is:

"Adventure game characters played by unlikely actors!"

Hollywood always gets it wrong.  Now, here's your opportunity to make it worse!  Choose the most unlikely actor to portray one of your adventure game heros.  Here's an example based on an old photoshop by Makri:

Have fun!

Seriously.  My boss tells me that I am going to Hong Kong tomorrow.  When I asked her why, she was very vague and seemed to avoid the question.  By the same token, she won't tell me how long the trip is for.

So basically,  I now have a one-way business class ticket to Hong Kong, which leaves tomorrow evening.  I have no idea how long I'll be gone, where I'll be staying,  or what I'll be doing while I am there.

I'm quite freaked out.  If I suddenly disappear, you know where to start looking.

edit: changed the subject title because it turns out I'm in China.  Not Hong Kong. :p

General Discussion / My trip to egypt
Thu 19/02/2004 21:49:09
Heh.  I'd completely forgotten about this.  Three years ago, I went to Egypt.   I kept a very detailed journal of my experiences there, and as an excercise in web design I decided to put it online, complete with pictures.  I never finished it, and only completed four of the ten days I wrote about.

I was recently reminded of this, and checked to see if the web journal was still there.  ANd lo and behold, it was.  If anyone cares to see a three year old website dedicated to me rambling about Egypt, the url is:

http://daveinegypt.8m.com/

The site is a disorganized mess, but it was my first ever attempt at html programming.  Please forgive me.

General Discussion / Books on cartooning
Tue 17/02/2004 20:28:21
Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a book on sketching or cartooning?  I'm looking to improve my skills in that area and my personal experimentation has yielded awful results.

Does anyone know of a way to incorporate dialog into the CCS plug-in?  Essentially what I'm trying to do is create a "security monitor" type of thing, where you can tune into what's going on in any particular room. The CCS plug-in is PERFECT for this kind of thing... except the game hinges on having the characters be able to speak.  Any tips?

Critics' Lounge / New character - a teacher
Sat 29/11/2003 23:15:38
Finally got around to working on the 2nd part of BoE, and here's one of the first characters you meet.  She's a teacher at a nursery school.  I'm proud of myself because I actually did some shading.

Some of you know that my company manufactures denim for Mudd Jeans.  My avatar comes from one of Mudd's old hang tags:

Am I the only one who is freaked out by this guy?  I don't know what the tag designers were thinking...

Just bought this yesterday and I'm gobbling it up like a starving man on Thanksgiving.  Is anybody else reading this?
