Mode7, this is extremely good.  I was surprised to see a game like this being made in AGS, as usually AGS isn't very good for platformers due to it not being very responsive.  But it worked well for this game.  The entire thing was very involving and atmospheric from start to finish.  And a great ending that definitely leaves me hungering for a full version!  Very well done.

My only nitpick, if I have one, is that the walkable point of the platforms seem to end a step or two before they feel natural.  I always felt like I could take an extra step to get to the very edge of a platform, but my guy would fall off.

Frigging A!  I'd almost forgotten about these.  Listening now...

edit: and... listened!  Very good stuff.  You guys should definitely do more.

Yay!

AGS has taken it's first eager steps into the wild.

This is *extremely* exciting news, CJ.  Thanks for doing this.  I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Um.

I honestly don't get what I just played.

Edit: I get the feeling that I'm missing some kind of history here, so perhaps I'm not in on the joke.

I'm particularly impressed by the voice acting. I can only presume professional voice actors were involved?

Thanks! The voice actors were chosen from our usual crew, although Brian (who plays Azriel) is kind of new.  He had a small role in Convergence as the ghost on the window ledge.

QuoteIf you have a room that scrolls vertically, pressing the mouse button scrolls the room view up a bit before nabbing the coordinates.

I haven't encountered this problem, myself.  It could be that your mouse wheel is getting a bit on and when you click it 'turns' somewhat.  I had to replace my old mouse because the wheel was giving out and doing weird things.  Obviously, if some other people have this same issue then there's something to it, but in testing it I haven't noticed it scroll around.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hm.  I actually just got a new mouse and now the "get coordinates" function barely works at all.  It works maybe 1 click in every 5.  It wouldn't be a problem if I could still use the right mouse button, but that functionality seems to have been taken out entirely.  Is it possible to put that back in?  Or at least provide an option to switch between them?

I use zazzle.com myself.  I've never been unhappy with anything they've made.  I made a bunch of shirts about four years ago and I still wear 'em.

I'll throw my hat in the "finish the script, then cast" ring.  Also, one handy trick is to find actors who can do two or three roles at once - most actors can, if they are any good.  It will save you a ton of time and money.  Juggling 19 individual actors will be hard.

Wasn't the lowest reviewed per se.  It was a list of top 25 rated games and that game was #25, not the lowest rated overall.  I'm sure there are lots of games ranked lower than that.

edit: no wait, you're right.  It was the worst reviewed game.  I suppose I see why folks say Metacritic's results are a bit skewed.  Except when it's skewed in my favor.  Then it's the bestest thing ever.

Check out what's #5 in Metacritic's quarterly list of the 25 top PC games! http://bit.ly/goMqom

I love the mousewheel-click-to-get-screen-coordinates functionality, although it does one finicky thing.  If you have a room that scrolls vertically, pressing the mouse button scrolls the room view up a bit before nabbing the coordinates.

I think anyone who reviews an adventure game has to make some kind of statement about how the genre is dying.  It's part of the rules somewhere.

I can't believe you actually have an entire nightclub full of dancing college kids.  That must have taken Progz forever.  I salute you!

It's 320x240 blown up to 640x480, so I can use high res fonts.

Put me on the "Max moves too slow" bandwagon.  I really am enjoying the game, though!  Between this and Creed's game, it's like old times.

But come on, don't tell me she isn't rocking that indie punk look.

Holy crap - how'd you score that voice actor?  This looks epic.

Reading your post is like reading about myself, circa 2006!  I had just come back home from teaching in Korea, I had about 10 grand saved up, so I took the plunge and started selling games commercially. I've been living off making AGS games for five years now so I know it's possible.  I can't say it's easy (be prepared to live like Ghandi for awhile!), but judging by your previous work you've definitely got the chops to make it happen.  Drop me a line if you want any specific advice.
