AGS Games in Production / Re: The Cat Lady

QuoteI felt it strongly while playing Dave's latest Blackwell game. I felt that sometimes, if even for a brief moment, I was almost inside his head, understanding why and how events were happening...

I'm glad one of us knows what goes on inside my head!

Anyway, Remi, this game looks awesome.

Hah.  For a minute I thought this was a "two of a kind" prequel. :)

Hi Minimi!

Oh man.  Game was released three years ago and a bug still finds it way into the game. :-/  Could you PM me more details about the bug?

There should be an autosave which takes you back to the last time you were on the mapscreen.  You might have to redo a few things, but you won't have to start over.

Just so ya know, the free offer sale is closed!  If you missed it, you can always buy it.

Alas, Plimus discovered the bug and the store is displaying the proper amount now.  I'm glad I have that screencap!

Hah.  I see how this happened, now.  I had neglected to check the "1 coupon per email" box, and a few jokers decided to order a few million copies of the game.  So, sadly, this means no french villas for me!

As for the folks who "bought" these millions of licenses, I hope the links don't get emailed to him individually. All they will get are a million identical links to a URL which will expire at midnight tonight.

I've been getting laugh mileage out of this ALL DAY.  How should I spend my hypothetical billions?
#1287
Depends what the bug is!  Feel free to PM it to me.
#1288
Hah. No.  It's obviously an accounting mistake.  The free offer increased traffic to the webstore by, well, a lot.  I dunno what happened, but the traffic evidently knocked something out of whack.  But still, it gave me quite a shock to see that number!

Well, according to Plimus anyway.

Over the weekend I've been giving The Shivah away for free in honor of the Yom Kippur holiday. Lots and lots of people have been taking advantage of the offer, but I think it's confused Plimus's accounting system just a bit.

Sooo either this is a mistake or I'm moving to a villa in the south of France.

I knew I forgot to post this info somewhere. :)

Yep, just choose "credit card" as an option and the store will accept it.  No need to enter your credit card info!  Don't choose paypal since paypal won't accept a $0 payment.

Oh yeah.  Nope.  No speech in ToaK or BoE.  It's been a long time since I made those games, so I'm not sure why there's a speech.vox file.  I think I might have saved some sound effects as speech files.

Heh.  My british fiancee reminded me about the "labour" thing.  The store now accepts both version of the word.
#1293
Hey everyone!  Dunno if you heard the news, but it's Labor Day weekend here in the U.S., and I've decided to hold our very first sale.

For this weekend only, EVERYTHING in our online store is marked down by 50%!  Simply use the code "labor" when making your purchase and poof!  Twice the usual awesomeness at half the price.

This offer ends on Monday, September 7th so nab your games for half price while you can! Or just buy everything twice.  Either way is cool.

-Dave

edit: This offer doesn't include Emerald City Confidential, which is sold via PlayFirst and not by me.

When you're jazzed and excited about working on a project, it's easy to get motivated.  Hours zip by in a heartbeat.  It's a rush.  Heck, it's fun.  But once you lose that motivation and excitement, it becomes work.  And work always sucks.

You can give up and wait for motivation to come back, but you run the risk of losing the project forever.  Just sit down and start working on it.  Yeah, it might be a slog but you'll be surprised how often you suddenly perk up and get interested again in what you are doing.  And if you don't, then at least you can say you made a bit of progress that day.

I wouldn't get in the habit of ditching projects, especially one you invested so much time and effort in.  If you bail on one project, you'll think it's OK to bail on another.  So don't start now.

Yes, PlayFirst put a bunch of their games on Steam recently, including ECC.  It had nothing to do with me! :)

But getting an AGS game on Steam is grand news!  The Blackwell games and The Shivah are going to following you guys soon. So yay adventures on Steam!

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Downfall

Hey everyone!  Just thought I'd chime in to announce that this game is also available on the Wadjet Eye Games store.  Why should Direct 2 Drive have all the fun?

Go and nab it HERE.

"Joey your way through puzzles."  - hah!

I knew removing the notebook interface would be a controversial move, since it's almost a Blackwell/Wadjet staple at this point.  But, in the end it seemed more like a hinderence than a help.  While the critics touted it as being a cool, innovative thing, most of the players found it incredibly annoying.  Andail's experience above is a prime example of the feedback I got.

So, in the end, I decided to remove it altogether for this one game.  It does remove some of the challenge, but I do believe it makes the overall experience much more pleasant.  I'll be working on reconciling the two camps for the next installment.

There're enough indie adventure games to last me at least two months.  After that I'll have to start digging.  They are out there, but most of them flew in under the radar.

"A must have!" says Unigamecity

"Unforgettable!" cries Gamezebo

"Touching and smart!" exclaims Rock, Paper Shotgun

Even more reviews here.

It also has gone up on Big Fish and PlayFirst, so if you are a member of their respective game clubs you can get the game for cheaper.

Hello!  I know this is an old thread but I figured this update warrants it.

Ionas has graciously allowed me to sell the Special Edition of Fatman on his behalf.  You can now purchase the game on the Wadjet Eye Games website for $9.99 (originally $14.99).

This game will mark the first of what I'm calling "recommended games."  I'm going to be adding a new indie commercial adventure game to the website every two weeks.

Anyway, I'd like to thank Ionas for this opportunity.  Fatman really blazed the trail for indie adventure games like mine, and it's a real honor to be the one to bring it back.
