You did it!  I remember when you were telling me about this idea at a NYC karaoke bar in november 08.  Will play as soon as I can.

Oh, i used plenty of programmer art.  Here's a neat example.

For at least six months, the Minetta tavern pictured here:

used this lovely piece of programmer art:

I knew that the room needed a back door, a bar, an exit, and the portrait of Joe Gould on the wall.  Anything else was just superfluous    :-D

Well, judging by the amount of illegal stuff that is actually *sold* at the conventions I go to, I don't think m0ds has much to worry about.  Course, Indiana Jones is much bigger than some cheap knock-off english dub of an anime.

WADJET EYE GAMES - Puzzle Bots (USA)
Successful developer Wadjet Eye Games will be showing their latest works & their classics including Emerald City Confidential and Puzzle Bots.

M0ds, you really need to start confirming with people before you start posting stuff like this.  Yes, I said I would demonstrate a game, but I never said that it would be Emerald City Confidential or Puzzle Bots. ECC will be old news by than, and I would have to get permission from my publisher and I can't guarantee they'd say yes.  As for Puzzle Bots, I can't say for certain what state the game will be in.  I *hope* it will be ready but I can't say for certain.

Also, this was listed under the exhibitor's page.  According to your previous post, this entails being at a table or booth and showing off your products to anyone who walks by.  If so, I never agreed to do that.  I am more than happy to be a speaker or a panelist (I love public speaking), but being an exhibitor and sitting at a table all day isn't something I'd care to do.

Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight.  As you add speakers/panelists to your site, be sure to confirm that they are doing what you say they are doing, otherwise both the guests and the speakers will get really upset.

Hah.  No way I'd mention other distribution channels in my newsletters.  :)  The portals are great, and they bring in lots of sales for me, but when people buy from a portal I only get a percentage of the sale.  When people buy from my own site, I get to keep it alllll.

Big Fish used to have a purchase minimum of 12 games when you joined their game club, which encouraged their customers to buy more games at the discounted price.  It was a good system, because even though each individual sale only netted me a small amount, there were a LOT more sales than normal because the customers had to buy more games in order to keep their membership.

Now, Big Fish has removed that purchase minimum and it's going to change everything. It's good for the customer, sure, but it also means that their customers are going to buy less games and pay less for them which can only hurt Big Fish (and us developers!) in the long run.  I honestly don't understand the logic behind this move, but I'm rethinking my business strategies as a result.  Yay, economy.

Yep, that's Big Fish, one of my distributors.  All of their games are available at a discounted price, but you have to join their Game Club first.

Woo! Reviews!

Jay Is Games calls it "a rare treat" and that Rosangela Blackwell is a "heroine we can relate to."

Yesterday's Salad calls it a "joy to play" and "hard to put down."

There are other reviews, but they aren't in English.  Will post 'em when I get them translated!

Andail's comments mirror the feelings of many others, which is why I removed that note combining interface in the first place.  The sense of "I figured this out, why isn't ROSA figuring it out too?!" really frustrated a lot of players, and they would often forget the note combining feature was even there.  After three games of using it, I realized it was not very intuitive.  Maybe it'll come back for the next game.

I really do need to update that demo.  It's on my to-do list.  I am so burnt out from getting this game done that I am taking a break this week. :)

QuoteI also liked the bonus material

There's bonus material? Yeah, it was also referred to in the commentary, but I couldn't find it. So, where is it?  ???

Pay attention to the final credits.  More specifically, the "special oogle code" :)

In general, I like to keep my games DRM free.  I've found that they really annoy legit users and don't deter piracy at all.  Case in point, there were a lot of annoyed people when Emerald City Confidential was released earlier this year.  It uses PlayFirst's DRM, which is pretty draconian from what I understand.   I don't think it's a coincidence that Emerald City Confidential is the most pirated of all the games I've made! :)  Of course, it's more of a mass-market title than my Blackwell stuff, but still.

Anyway, this sounds useful but I'm afraid it wouldn't be feasible for someone like me.  I'd have to remove all security wrappers when I put the game on distribution channels (like iWin, Big Fish, etc) so any security I glean from it would be lost.  However, for those who just plan on selling their games from their own website and nowhere else, this would certainly come in handy.

Brad:

You probably bought the game using the old Cubecart store, which was hosted on the Wadjet Eye Games site.  When things became more busy for me and the traffic got too much to handle, I switched over to Plimus.  But, all teh orders are still archived.  If you go to http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/oldstore and enter you login info, you should still be able to nab your games.  Let me know if it works.  If it doesn't, give me a shout and I'll get you your copies.
#1313
Hi brad.  By "link to original game" what are you referring to?
#1314
Peder and Trihan managed to get the game much earlier than this announcement.  I had a bit of tech trouble with the store, which is why I put off this announcement until it was fixed.  But... it's fixed now!  Glad you guys managed to get the game. :)

It's out!  It's oouuuuuttttt!!!  There was a bit of trouble with the online store so I put off announcing it here, but it's all fixed now so here we go...

A new film opens to rave reviews, despite its bloody history.  A beautiful uptown office remains unoccupied, despite its prime location.  A downtown artist berates himself for selling out, while a Wall Street investor congratulates himself on a job well done.  Just normal life in the big city?  Or is somthing more sinister binding these events together?

Bizarre connections are a dime a dozen for the Blackwell family, but just how far back do they go? Medium Rosangela Blackwell and her spirit guide Joey Mallone are about to find out.

OK, technically this game is done for for sale but the Wadjet Eye Store is having "issues" at the moment.  I'll hold off posting in the announcement thread until it's sorted.

I can't understand this porn music comment, though. This is the second time someone's said it. Is all smooth jazz music a porn music? If so, Dave Gilbert's  Blackwell games must be an endless orgy of explicit eroticisim:)

Dude!  Just because you're a beta tester doesn't mean you can give away plot elements of Blackwell Convergence! ;)
