Haha right!  All you have to do was get me drunk and I spill all.

Slight update to the fan art contest!  I was asked by a number of folks to create some kind of grand prize for the best piece of art.  I thought about it, and here's what I came up with.

There's one minor character in the game that has not been designed yet.  Win the contest, and we'll design that character to look like you!  The character can be male, female, oldish, or youngish, so the prize can be given to anyone.

The deadline has also been extended to September 9th.

Cheers,

-Dave

I'm not sure if this applies here, but since a number of you are starting to sell games commercially I figured it would be of interest to some.

Last week I presented The Blackwell Convergence at a demo event here in New York.  I've presented at this event before (The Shivah in 2006 and Blackwell Unbound in 2007), and each time it was video recorded and placed on Youtube.

This year, however, it was not.  I was a bit disappointed, since I always create these presentations with the greater indie community in mind and not just for the people physically present at the event.  So I decided to make a mini-recreation of my presentation in a vidcast.  I mostly talk about what I've learned about marketing over the last year, but if that seems boring you can also watch me get slobbered on by a Boston Terrier.

Link to the youtube video is on the Wadjet Eye Games site.

Haddas, I'll always have fond memories of you and your big... feet.  Seriously.  The guy's feet are huge.

Apparently I'm a breakthrough!  And the Blackwell games are being published without my knowing it!  Anyway, read.

Hey Vertigo.  If you want to enter and not receive a shipped prize, feel free!  There's a digital prize for all who enter so you'll at least get something.

Hah.  I love how PC Zone put this big screenshot from Blackwell Unbound in there but didn''t say what game it came from. :)

Everyone knows filesize doesn't matter for commercial games anyway.

Oh, I wish!  Game portals are less likely to take a game that's over 50MB because it's more expensive to host.  It's been a big problem for me. :(

FAN ART CONTEST ANNOUNCED!

Cross posted from the Wadjet Eye blog.  Figured I'd give you AGSers a heads up. :)

Hello all.  A disturbing fact has been brought to my attention.  It's been entirely too long since we had a fan art contest.

There is a reason for that.  Normally, the big prize for winning a fan art contest is a free copy of the upcoming game.  That couldn't happen this time around, since the upcoming game won't be released until at least the fall.  So any fan art contests had to be postponed.

However!  That has all changed.  You might have noticed the little graphic on the right column of main page, linking you to the Wadjet Eye Games merchandise store. You can now purchase Wadjet Eye related mugs, shirts, posters, hats, and all sorts of stuff.  After all, wouldn't the world be a better place if more people wore Rabbi Stone on a t-shirt?

There's an added bonus to this store as well. I now had items I could give away as prizes!  Lo and behold, a new fan art contest was born!

So, for the entire month of August, I'll be holding another fan art contest.  Send in your various renderings, drawings, sketches, paintings, or whatevers of any characters from any Wadjet Eye Game.

The three top winners will receive a prize of their choice: a mug, a t-shirt, or a poster.

The three runners up will receive a nice collection of fridge magnets with various Wadjet Eye characters on them.

Everyone else will receive a consolation prize.  Nobody leaves this contest empty handed!

More details (among other things) within this brand spanking new vidcast:

[Can't embed youtube videos, so GET THE VIDCAST HERE]

Email all entries to me(dave at wadjeteyegames dot com), or pm them to me on the forum.

Cheers!

Many thanks for all the nominations. I have limited time at a PC these days so I will be closing noms on Monday and setting up the vote page on Tuesday, so name some more whilst you have the chance :) Sadly yes these awards do cut out games released in Fall & Winter. If it were to encompass all games form all year it'd really just be the AGS awards, but in the future, when it involves more engines or Ive thought it through a bit more, it might include all year games. But really at the moment its to celebrate games that are released in Winter, Spring & Summer of the current year.

No love for Blackwell Unbound than.  Oh wells!  I nominate "Au Natural!"

Not a grammar error per se, but I once came across this item in a Denny's menu:

CLASSIC AMERICAN CHEESEBURGER
$10.99
Served without cheese

Ooh, I had been using that font loophole too for Resonance.  I quite liked having smooth fonts on the 320x240 game.  I had been checking internally if the game was running in 320x240 or 640x480 and if it's the former, use a small bitmap font, and if it's the latter, use a nice ttf font.

I guess this locks me in 3.0.2 which is fine for now.  It has all the features I need. Though if you ever get around to that audio overhaul, I might be forced to look into working around this.

Doh.  Me too.  I've always been using hi-res fonts on a 320 x 240 screen.  Looks like I'll stay with 3.02 as well!

Wasn't there a big slice of last year that was left out of last year's contest?  Are those games going to roll over into this year's contest or are they just going to be forgotten?

Am I the only one who hears "Hey you guys!" and thinks of The Electric Company? (which is the TV show that Sloth was quoting?)  I feel old. :)

Definitely not going to Brittens, unfortunately.  But if you can meet us in York, that would be great!
#1419
Thanks everyone.  This is something that Ivy and I have been working on for a few months now, so it's nice to finally talk about it.

If it works out, I'd love to do the same for other AGSers.  We'll see how it goes. :)
