More importantly, Dave doesn't consider himself too good for this community.
Well, not enough to leave, at least.

Posting here is what I call "slumming it." :-D

Seriously, though.  Leave Yahtzee alone.  If he wanted to come here, he'd come here.  He obviously has his reasons.  Please respect them.

And Boyd? HAHAHAHAHA.

The idea that "RoN is too big" isn't true at all really.

Yes, there are over 60 characters on the character page, but most of them are very minor and only had little walk-on bits.

Yes, there are dozens upon dozens of games, but the majority of them are very small and will only take about 5 minutes to complete.

Yes, there is a backstory, but it's no harder to follow than a season of The Simpsons or something.

Sooo, how to solve this?

- Since the main complaint is that it is too big, perhaps there should be a reorganization of the RoN site to make it less intimidating?

- There should be a way to direct newbies to the series.  Don't newbies have to fill out a quiz when joining this AGS forum?  RoN could be part of that quiz.

- Make RoN a part of AGS site.  I'm not sure about this one, since RoN isn't necessarily an AGS thing.  There should be a greater effort to call attention to it, though, via this site.  I'm not sure how.

- Quality control?  There are a number of games on the site that, let's face it, aren't terribly good.  This could turn people away from the series.   I wouldn't want to delete these games (that's a dictatorship), but perhaps there's a way to let the better games shine through while the crap hides in the shadows.  I'm not sure how to do this, as there was a rating system at one point, but it was abused.

- Get RoN mentioned on gaming sites.  I'm not sure if this will work, as I tried it myself back when I was admin.  I wrote a whole bunch of gaming sites trying to generate some publicity for the series, and it only resulted in a small article on adventuregamers.com.  I'm not really interested in trying again, but somebody else could.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone else? :)

Speaking frankly, RoN is only active when there are people contributing to it.  Be it creating games, graphics, art, writing, or simply participating on the forum in discussions or the forum activities, there has to be people who are willing to participate otherwise very little output occurs.

Back in its heydey, everyone in the AGS community knew about RoN.  It was a great way for a newbie to cut their teeth.  I know it was that way for me, as well as folks like Creed, Grundislav, AGA, Steve McCrea, and others.  It's to be expected that they all move on eventually.  The problem is that nobody is around to take their place.  I don't think the current "generation" of AGSers even knows about RoN in the first place.

It's not just lack of interest.   I think there are lots of people who would love to make a RoN game, if they only knew it existed.  How to get the word out is anybody's guess.

Speaking of RON, it saddens me that it's almost dead.

Sigh.  Yes.  The forum has a few regulars, but RoN is one of those rare communities that actually NEEDS newbies to keep it strong.  I don't think anybody knows about it, or even cares, which kills me.  I still have a soft spot for that crazy li'l town.

Yah I just noticed this myself.  Looks like they fixed the problem without telling me. :-D

Just a bit o' news.  A few portals have expressed interest in distributing this game on their sites, but they have requested a few features like on-screen instructions and the ability to download the voicepack seperately (to cut down on filesize).  I'm in the midst of working on that.

Also, in case anybody cares, the design for the sequel (which is called The Blackwell Convergence) is very near completion.  It is significantly longer than Legacy, and will go significantly deeper in the family's past.  Some questions will be answered, while others will be definitely raised. :)

Yes, this was an April Fool's joke.    Most of you realized this.  As for the rest of you:

and

Thanks to E.J. for making the mockup poster, ProgZmax for doing the li'l Shiva sprite, Ali for letting me use his background, and everyone else for going along with the joke.

The price has been lowered by about $60, although it's still too expensive for most.  My main wish for Adventurecon is that he'd get some guests who are working in the industry now.  Anything less would just enforce the stereotype that adventure games are old/dead.

Of course, most of the people working on modern adventure games are not in the U.S., and it would too expensive to schlep them over.  At least, that's the impression I get.

Are you not afraid that people will confuse the shivah, with shiva?  :=

I was worried that some people might spell "Shiva" as "Shivah", but I mean - come ON.  Only total morons would do that.  ;D

The Kshatriya King has been murdered!  All the evidence points to the local Brahmin priest, but he insists he is innocent.  Who else can solve this crime but Shiva?  Shiva does everything; he is the creator, sustainer and destroyer. And now, he is a detective in this thrilling new mystery game.

I don't think the problem is ipowerweb, as I have other sites (wadjeteye and a former work site) that are hosted by them and have no problems.  I think the problem is the wordpress blogging software, which is a haven for spammers.  I've cleaned up the site quite a bit, and upgraded the files (which apparently have better security).  Hopefully that'll sort it when they review the site again. Or rather, IF they review the site again.

I've asked them for more info about a week ago, but have yet to hear from them.  ???

Great stuff!  I think I'll be using your ideas for the upcoming Blackwell titles.

Hi all,

Those of you who might have googled my website have no doubt come in contact with the message "This website may harm your computer."  According to Google, something on my website is harming people.  According to everybody ELSE, there is nothing there.  I've had my host provider check it, I've checked, and I've had various nerd friends take a look, and nobody can find anything wrong.  Nobody, that is, aside from Google.

I am at a total loss on how to fix this.  It's very strange, and very annoying.  Any advice or help is appreciated.

Cool.  I remember you working on this back in 2004, I believe.  Glad to see it's back in the works, again!

Cross-country travel always effects me in a very stupid way and I wouldn't be much use leading a workshop, let alone 2-4 of them.  Unless they were workshops on the values of taking naps.

I know of some people who are interested in going, but the high price puts them on the fence.  Most cons like this are usually $50, or $100 tops.  $350 is way too high.
#1639
So, er, nevermind. I'm not going to Adventurecon.

Apparently a free pass wasn't included in the deal, and I would be expected to pay the full $350 plus hotel for the priviledge of speaking.  To get a free pass I'd have to run 2-4 workshops and be on more panels.  I politely declined.

#1640
I wouldn't get paid to do this.  From my limited experiences with cons, what happens is that you are comped a pass to the event itself, and sometimes hotels are partially covered.  This would be fine.  I have to admit my curiousity is piqued about this whole thing.  I'd be willing to foot the air and hotel fare if the con itself would be free.  Plus, I like speaking and there are worse places to be stuck for a few days than Vegas.

Depiste my initial feelings about this, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt - for now.  I know that it takes awhile to generate a roster of speakers and panelists and events and such.  I'm speaking at I-Con next week, and I wasn't even officially asked to go until two months ago.  This adventurecon thing isn't for another six months, so my general feelings are to Wait and See.
