Woah, neat!  I wasn't even aware of this.  Those Manifesto folks are the PR Kings.

Erwin, no problem!

Just an update, my personal email's been down for a few days. So if you sent me some fanart and didn't hear back from me, it probably means I did not receive it.  Send it to me again at "admin at wadjeteyegames dot com".

I usually dress up as an oldschool NYC mobster thug for halloween, but I doubt that's what you're looking for. :)

While adventure games are a type of escapism like films or books, when done right they can provide a level of immersion that isn't present in other media.  I remember playing KQ3 in the 7th grade and really feeling SCARED when that bastard wizard kept appearing out of nowhere.  I was feeling what the main character (gwydion) was feeling, and it helped me identify with a character in ways that were not possible in a non-interactive genre.

That's the one thing that good adventure games can do.  It really gives you the sense that you are shaping and molding a story as it goes along.  Or at least it might give you the impression that you are.

So his brother's name is Bud Mudd? :-D

Looks beautiful, Tarantula.  Definitely keep us updated.

Those of you who don't want to pay for the game, here's your chance to get the game for free!

From today (December 1st) until the game is released (December 16th), I am hosting a little fanart contest.

Email or PM me a drawing, sketch, or visual representation of any character from The Shivah or the upcoming Blackwell Legacy.  The top three entries will win a free copy of the game.  The three runners-up will receive a free copy of the soundtrack.  Every other entry will receive a consolation prize.  NOBODY will leave empty-handed!

For more details, check out the website (www.wadjeteyegames.com).

I sorta beta tested this game and I figured I'd put my two cents in.  This game royally ROCKS.  Very cute, very fun, and very challanging.  I still haven't beaten it. :)

That's a common mistake.  I originally wanted "davegil" when I signed up for a hotmail account way back when, but it wasn't available so I stuck my middle initial in there.  The name stuck ever since.

I really wanted to apply to do a male voice for you, but you never replied to my 2 emails offering to do background art, even if it was just to say "No thanks." Oh well.  :(

Two emails?  I never got any. :(  At least, none from "nloprinzi@casinternet.net".  I apologize for that.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who auditioned.  I'm sorry if you didn't get the role, but I'll be doing other projects in the future so I'll keep you in mind.

Hi all,

I managed to snag a BG artist, but I am in need of a little bit more help. :)

There's a tiny role that could use some voicing.  It's not big.  Maybe 10 lines or so.      Anyone interested PM or email me, and send some voice samples if possible.

Thankyee,

-Dave

P.S. There are only two days left to snag your free copy of the Shivah soundtrack with your Blackwell pre-order.  So if you've been thinking about doing it, now's the time.

Nice job Jet!  Good articles and good presentation.  "That jewish game" indeed! :)

Help!

My background artist just got a demanding fulltime job and won't be able to dedicate as much time to the game as he thought.  He would like some help with the exterior scenes, since those tend to take him the most mount of time.

There are only four backgrounds, and they are "real world" locations (New York City).  Three of them need both day and night versions.

The release date for this game is December 16th.  I know that's not a heck of a lot of time, but I am determined to meet the deadline.  If anyone out there can help me, it would be most appreciated.  I can't pay much, but I WILL pay you.  If you prove that you can do good work, then there will be further work for you on my next project (which will begin production in January).

The most complete background thus far is this one.  It's the dog walking area of Washington Square Park:

it was based off of this sketch:

http://www.davelgil.com/boe/backgrounds/dogwalkint.gif

It's mostly complete, but a daytime version would also be necessary.

There's also the exterior of the park, which he just started working on:

There was a reference sketch, although it's from a different angle:

http://www.davelgil.com/boe/backgrounds/dogwalkext.gif

This location also needs day and night verions.

Lastly is the park itself:

It doesn't have to be so wide, although that arch and lamppost should be there

two photos were used for reference:

and

only daytime needed for this one.

And, lastly, the Brooklyn Bridge!

This photo used for reference (the scaffolding wouldn't be in the BG):

Please contact me at dave@davelgil.com or PM me on the forums if you are interested.  Thanks!

And BAM!  That did it.  Thanks, Steve!

Hm.  I still get the flicker, but it's less severe.  Is there any way to optimise this?
#1717
Hi all,

I'm having a little issue that probably has a simple stupid solution.

I have a line, made with rawdrawline, that I want to move around the room.  Basically the line starts from a specific point and is always pointing at a character.  The character walks around the room and the line moves with it.  (This is, in essence, to simulate a dog on a leash).

I did it like this:

RawSaveScreen();
RawDrawLine(220, 193,cDog.x, cDog.y);
RawRestoreScreen();

and put it in the repeatedly_executable section of my room script.  It seems to have worked, but it happens so fast that you can't see the line.

I put a Wait(1); between the second and third lines, but that didn't work well because the line flickered and it slowed down the game.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Cheers,

-Dave

I edited my post above, but just in case y'all missed it:

You still have to register on the store to get the game.  Sorry.  You can paypal me the money if you want to, but you still have to be registered on the store to get the download link.
#1720
Hi Helm,

Sure.  You can paypal the money to me at davelgil@yahoo.com. Just make sure you write what it's for. :)

EDIT: Turns out that there's no point in doing this.  You still have to register on the store to get the game.
