I am jetlagged.  Oh yes I am.

Made it home in one piece.  Battered, bruised, but not beaten.  Too tired to say anything witty, but I will say I had a great time with you all.  I'll have more to say with pictures and stuff tomorrow.  Till then, zzzzzz

Some interesting news, for those who are interested.

Neat!  Have fun, all.  I'll be seeing you all in two days.

Hi CJ,

Good question.  I have one "default" talking view, and for each change of emotion I wrote a function that changes the sprites for each frame of the view.

Thanks again for the comments, all.

Snarks, yeah, the typos make me cringe.  There was a lot of dialog in the game, and a limited time in which to get it done so there were a few ugly spelling/grammatical errors that slipped through the cracks.  I needed a definite break from the game after the deadline, but I'm going over it now and I'm trying to sort those typos out.

As for that talking portrait bug, I have no idea why that happens.  I have dutifully reported it to the tech forum and i'll hopefully have an answer soon.

Hi all,

There's a weird bug in "Shivah" that has me stumped.  Upon reloading a saved game, the talking portraits do not reset back to where they are supposed to be.  For example, if you save before a character is "happy", then the character becomes "angry", and then you restore, the character portrait remains "angry".

I am flummoxed by this.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Shivah: The seven days of Jewish mourning following the death of a close relative

Russell Stone works as a Jewish Rabbi at a poor synagogue in New York City.  He is a devout man with a problem.  Membership is way down and he lacks the funds to keep his synagogue open. Things are looking very bleak, and he has grown progressively more cynical and bitter with the passage of time.

Just as he is on the verge of packing it all in, he receives some interesting news.  A former member of his congregation has died and left the rabbi a significant amount of money.

A blessing?  Or the start of something far more sinister?  Can Rabbi Stone just accept the money and move on?  His conscience says no.  Step into his shoes as he travels all over Manhattan in his attempt to uncover the truth.

Features rabbinical conversation methods, a unique method of fighting, an original score (around 10 musical tracks), and three different endings!

Demo: FREE!
Full version: $4.99

(The demo allows you to play the first few scenes of the game, and then shows you a movie-style trailer to give you a taste of the rest)

Shmooze with your rabbinical brethren.

This game was made for the June 2006 MAGS competition, so I consider this version a "public beta".  I was working up until the deadline to get rid of all the bugs, but I'm sure some still fell through the cracks.  Any comments are appreciated.

Update v1.1 - July 2, 2006: fixed a small bug that could cause the game to give you the wrong ending.

Made it with an hour to spare.

DOWNLOAD THE SHIVAH

Join Russell Stone, embittered Rabbi, as he struggles to solve the murder of a former congregation member.

Written, designed, and conceived by: Dave Gilbert
Character portraits: ProgzMax
Music: Vel
Backgrounds: Dr. Scary

Featuring an original score, tons of dialog, men with skullcaps, and multiple endings!

PHEW!

What an amazing month!  Working on this game has been a great experience.  Special thanks go to Dr. Scary who virtually held my hand during the making of the game, as well as Vel and Progz for all their fantastic comments that improved the game mightily.

I hope you enjoy the game as much as we did making it.

My game should be up shortly.  Hard to believe the deadline is actually here.

I can see that anyone who DOES enetr is going to win by default...  :(

Don't jinx it!  I hope I'm not the only entry AGAIN this time. :-(

Anyway, you might have seen my "In Production" post about my game "The Shivah", but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents here with an exclusive mags thread screenshot!

This should be done by tomorrow.

Sorry for the bump.  The game is, for the most part, playable.  I'd like to nab some beta testers before the deadline.  If anyone is willing, drop me a PM.

I also put up some more screenshots.  Enjoy.

Yikes, Gilbot. That whip looks like a... well, yeah.
#1819
Come on peeples.  Only one entry so far?  You make me cry.

I'm going for these rules:
http://mags.typo.i24.cc/?page=history&only=2004-10&pagetitle=Conspiracy

It's moving along quite quickly, so I'm 99% certain that it will be complete - in some shape or form - by the deadline.  Oh yes.  It will be complete.
