It's not surprising that the help thread has few success stories, because it's a pretty poor system. Does anyone actually look at the help thread?  I certainly have no desire to wade through pages of posts, looking for a project that might strike my fancy.

It's far easier, and a lot more practical, to scan one page of threads; each with individual titles.  If you see "composer needed for fantasy RPG" or "Dialog writer for space adventure", you immediately know if its something you'd be able to do or not.

Two good examples of this in action:

I vote this, even if it could encourage eager beginners to start posting team-requests the minute they join.

True, but they'll do that ANYWAY.  At least this way they'll be shoved off to a place we can ignore them if we want.

Also, those other forums have very strict rules for posts.  You need to have a concrete idea, demonstrate what the game will be like, show what other work you've done, etc.  Whoever moderates the forum could make sure those rules are followed.

See first post for updates.

Thanks again to Progz who offered to redo the character portaits for me.

I'd totally be on for this.  It's easy for me to get down there.  I have a sister who lives there, so I can crash with her.

In addition, I suggest that after resampling photos you should always apply unsharp mask to them.

The amount is up to you, but like them a bit oversharpened in this size.

Thanks for this!  These photos are just placeholders that I nabbed off Google.  Guess I should have been clear on what needed to be edited. :)   But I'll keep this technique in mind once I get the "official" photos from my friend.

I've seen lots of gamer forums that include a seperate "Jobs offered/Jobs wanted" area, where people can post threads about their project or offer their services.  A forum section dedicated to it would work much better than a single thread, and more people would read it.

Two characters!  Three shadings!

I am reasonably happy with the old man's shading, but there is always room for improvement.  The younger man I am not happy with at all.  Everything I added to his lower face just looked painted on.  Any help is, as always, appreciated!

 What is a Photoshop ...Monday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images. The contest usually lasts for a fortnight. Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used. Please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen.

See this link:

This week's topic: If game characters were to breed, what would their kids look like?

Choose any two characters, pair them together, and give em kids!  Man/man couples, girl/girl couples, robot/animal couples!   Go crazy!

Here's a quick example.  This is what would result if Max and Laverne got busy in the LucasArts break room:

Enjoy!  I'll judge this contest in two weeks!

Hey Juncster,

Thanks!

That's DEFINITELY more in line with what he's looking for.  The logo doesn't look all sad and lonely on the page.

I don't have a scan of the card.  Just a crappy .pdf of the logo. :)  This is just a prototype, so the quality of the graphics isn't as important as the layout.  I'll probably be getting better versions of the graphics soon.

I appreciate all your comments and I know you all are trying to be helpful, but maybe I'm not being clear enough. :)

1 - the splash screen stays.  I totally understand the reasoning but it's not my decision :(

2 - the logo itself can't be changed.  It's the logo on his business card and it needs to be remain the same in order to keep the "brand image", or whatnot.  Changing the font is a no-no.  However, I can add things TO the logo to make it stand out more.  That's where I'm having trouble.

Again, this isn't a dig at you guys.  I know you honestly want to help.  I still love you.

Yeah, I know about splash pages.  :-D  He wants one though, so I'll make it for him.

Still unsure about what to do with the logo.  If anyone has any ideas, i'd appreciate it.

I'm doing this design for a friend of the family.  He wants to have a "splash page" which contains his logo. I put his logo on the front page, but he isn't sure he likes it.  It looks great on a business card, but on the website it lacks "weight."  I can sort of see what he means.

If anyone has tips on how to give it more weight without altering the logo, i'd appreciate it.

EDIT:  And duh.  here's the link.  http://www.davelgil.com/mark

There are about a dozen rooms altogether, but the puzzles are mostly dialog and research based.  If a rabbi is good at anything, it's talking and asking questions. :-D

Okay. The game is, for the most part, playable.  I'd like to get a few fresh pairs of eyes to check out the game before the deadline.  If anyone is interested, PM me.

Shivah: The seven days of jewish mourning following the death of a close relative

Russell Stone works as a jewish rabbi at a poor synagogue in New York City.  He is a devout man with a problem.  Membership is way down and he lacks the funds to keep his synagogue open. Things are looking very bleak, and he has grown progressively more cynical and bitter with the passage of time.

Just as he is on the verge of packing it all in, he receives some interesting news.  A former member of his congregation has died and left the rabbi a significant amount of money.

A blessing?  Or the start of something far more sinister?  Can Rabbi Stone just accept the money and move on?  His conscious says no.  Step into his shoes as he travels all over Manhattan in his attempt to uncover the truth.

This game is being made for the June MAGS competition.  Since progress is being made fast enough, I think I can safely say that it will be ready by the deadline.  Be sure to look for this game on June 30th!

Rabbi Stone does not like visitors.

Meet all sorts of nice and helpful characters

Two more screenies, because you're all so patient and lovely:

Bring hope and joy to others

Make friends easily

EDIT:

The talking portraits have been edited somewhat, thanks to Progzmax who generouslly offered.

Greetings!

It seems I can make Brittens after all.  I got my ticket and everything, so put me on the "definites."

I'll probably be contacting AGA soon with a list of annoying questions.

To be honest, I like it as it is.  In the scene she's in, she expresses emotions of sadness and anger.  What's great about her current edit is that she could be either of them.

Aand... witness the magic:

Psim's edit, with Flib's shading = awesome!

I made her a bit brighter, and also gave the poor girl a shirt to wear.

Thanks for the help, everyone!
