General Discussion / Re: London Subway

Holy freaking CROW.  Talk about Ignorance at 10,000 feet.

Who knew that while I was watching Daffy Duck cartoons on the airplane TV (hey, it was either that or "Ice Princess"), there was utter pandemoneoum down below.  My family was freaking out and instigating a worldwide dragnet for news.  I arrived in NYC totally unaware of what was going on, and when I found out I felt sick to my stomach.

I honestly don't know what to say right now.  I was a witness to the 9/11 tragedy, and I wish that you Brits didn't have to go through this now as well.  A terrorist attack, no matter how big or small, is always horrible because it is so unexpected and it always affects innocents.  It leaves you feeling vulnerable, exposed, and scared.  I can't even begin to understand the mindset behind such attacks.  I am only reminded of something I read once in an editorial: "The attacks will stop when they realize they love their children more than they hate others."  Of course it's never that simple, but it is a sad, sad age we live in when people will gleefully sacrifice themselves and their family to kill innocents bystanders who didn't harm anyone.

I hope this won't turn into a political discussion.  Leave that to the polititians.  As of now, know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Howdy!

Greetings from a London cyber cafe.  This week flew by insanely fast.  There's so much to talk about and so many in-jokes to confuse people with.  All in all, it was great to meet some of you again and meet some of you for the first time.  What really struck me is that we are all, for the most part, very different people with something very unique in common.  It's very satisfying to get together 1-2 times a year and discuss our mutual interest.

Some highlights off the top of my head:

1. Going to a karaoke bar with Creed and Layabout
2. Rain.  Lots of rain.
3. CJ insisting that fingers didn't have bones.
4. Iqu describing the various substances he has inhaled through various orifices.
5. Our 3-4 hours of fun with glow sticks
6. Mentally scarring the Pizza Hut staff for life.
7. M0ds falling out of a tree
8. Dark Stalkey's frisbee disc of DOOM.
9. The britteneers taking me out for my first traditional british curry. mmMmmm
10. CJ aiming the projectile tony hawk motorbike toy at his mouth and pushing the button.

I have pictures, lots and lots of lovely pictures, but they'll have to wait until tomorrow when I get home.  Thanks for the great time, gang!  Hopefully I'll be able to join you again next year.

AHOY PEOPLE!

Greetings from a Gloucester Street cyber cafe!Ã,  I travelled for 21 hours, endued countless lines, a horrible airplane seat and an 8 foot tall bronze statue of George H.W. Bush.Ã,  I am battered, bruised and jetlagged, but alive!Ã,  Alas, my hotel room isn't ready so I got time to kill.Ã,  Thought I'd add a bit to this thread before heading out to the british boonies tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.Ã,  And looking forward to hanging out with Iqu, Creed and Layabout tonight.

Whoompa. Leaving tomorrow at 4:30 am to start my roundabout 19 hour flight to London.  I'm arriving at 7am on Thursday, and since I know I'll be cranky and exhausted I'm checking myself into a hotel.  Will anybody be in or around London on Thursday?  PM me your digits and maybe we can hang out once I shake off the jetlaggyness.

I'm bringing no chairs nor tents.  I will eat anything.  I am such a moocher.

I'm arriving in London on Thursday around 7am!  Since it's a day early, I booked a hotel room and will futz around London for a day and a night before heading over to the campsite the next day.  I'll probably arrive late morning/noonish.  I'm staying till Thursday.

Awesome, Ponch!  Lots of reloading animations.  Looks fantastic.  It looks like you have a sidekick of somesort in this time around.

Anyrate, here's my offering for "Release Something!" day.

Some time ago I released a small demo of "Without a Prayer."  Today, I'm releasing a MUCH BIGGER demo. Woo!  It's about three times as big as the original.

Get it HERE:

Step into the shoes of Rasputin Finch, travelling preacher and conman, as he tries to convert the godless heathens of Reality on the Norm and build his tabernacle in the process.

Here are some dialog snippets

Enjoy!

An interesting idea, although it gets kind of old pretty fast.  Although a rapping Bill Cosby zombie is very amusing!

Oddly enough, I just held down the "yeah" button during the first round and won easily.  Didn't work on the second round with Melt.

This one's a bit in-jokey, but here it is:

Next: GTA: Reality on the Norm!

American McGee did the same thing with "Alice" and nobody complained.  At least, if they did nobody cared.

Nice to hear that someone else has read those books, Kinoko!  I was at my little cousin's Bat Mitzvah over the weekend, and it turns out that all my childhood Oz books found their way into her possession.  My aunt asked me if I wanted to take some back, and I was sorely tempted, but I decided to leave them in the hands of the next generation. :)  Good times.

"Return to Oz" is an interesting flick.  It's a sequel to the original movie, but its visual style is based on the original books' illustrations.

Nice work converting this picture! :)  I enjoyed Peasant's Quest, although I agree with the others who say you should let the Homestar Runner folks know.

Wow.  Talk about bringing a thread up from the ashes.

The RON site rearranged its file organization last year, so the link is changed.  Get the game here:  http://ron.the-underdogs.info/downloads/games/trap.zip

Darn spiffy, Hobbes!  And darn spiffy music, Vel.  Happy to see that this is still underway.

Interesting.  Have you seen the film "Return to Oz"?  Your plot sounds kind of similar - a darker vision, Dorothy going to an asylum because everyone thinks she's crazy, an Oz enslaved by someone.  A good film, although nobody has ever heard of it.

In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing how this ends up.  I grew up on L. Frank Baum's books as a kid.

It's funny cuz it's CJ.

Creed, I am happy to take advantage of your camping supplies.  The less I have to drag from NYC the better!  I can get my hands on a sleeping bag, but lugging a tent is another matter.  Whatever you have available, I will be mucho thankful for.

Unless I manage to get on a different flight,  I will arrive at 7am on Thursday at Gatwick airport.  Is that too early to head over to the campsite?  Or should I hole up at a London hotel for the day/night?

This is turning into quite the trip!  I'm very much looking forward to it.  It'll be a new experience for me because I'm a city boy who has never gone camping a day in his life.  Many hilarious antics will ensue, I'm sure.

Holy crow.  What I'll do for a free flight.

I have enough mileage to cover a free flight to the UK, but only on Delta or one of its affiliates.  The only flight available is one that travels from NYC to TEXAS, then a 5 hour layover, then a 9 hour flight to London Gatwick.

I am on the waitlist for a few more reasonable flights, but despite the hassle I am willing to do it for a free ride.

However, the flight arrives at 11am on the 30th, one whole day before Brittens begins.  Is there a kind London soul who can take me in for the day/night?  I'll be jetlagged and dishevelled so I'll be sure to provide some amusement.
