The link left out the "L" in "silversphinxstudios". :)  Insert the "L" in "Silver" and you'll get to the site just fine.

The first five or so were hosted on the main underdogs server, and people usually have trouble downloading them. But all the rest of the games are hosted on the RON site itself, so you should have no trouble downloading them.  Which games are you having trouble with?

Not bad.  But everyone knows a sheep looks like this:

Hi there,

I just downloaded it myself and it unzipped just fine.  Did you try downloading it a second time?

Background artists/colorists needed!

Can you do justice to this sketch, or draw in a similar style?

If so, please drop me a line.Ã,  We have much to discuss.Ã,  Oh yes.

Here's a sneak preview of the next Doctor Who...

Until recently, I never really “got” the animosity toward JA+.Ã,  So what if they like Myst and don't like Monkey Island?Ã,  Apples and oranges.Ã,  They are two different styles of games, and if they prefer one over the other so what?Ã,  It's their opinion.Ã,

I started reading JA+ pretty regularly back in 1999 or so.Ã,  I was always very impressed with the quality of their writing and their love of the adventure genre as a whole.Ã,  The fact that they reviewed other game genres never bothered me, as they usually discussed games that would appeal to adventure gamers (I doubt I would have even heard of ICO without JA+).

However, I think that since they've been uncontested for so long they're beginning to get lazy.Ã,  It's like they don't care anymore.Ã,  You used to be able to count on JA+ for a review, a preview, or some adventure-related news every single day.Ã,  Now, it seems that the site is more interested in stockpiling walkthroughs, affiliates, and exclusive screenshots then delivering quality information that adventurers actually care about..Ã,  Their writing quality has suffered.Ã,  Some of their recent reviews have been quite vapid, to say the least.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased, since their review of “Two of a Kind” was so devoid of content that they might as well had a picture of a goat instead of a review, but it's a good example of what the site has become.Ã,  It's the fate of many.Ã,  They've forgotten what made them so enjoyable to begin with and are now threatening to collapse under their ever-expanding weight. I hope it doesn't happen, since they have the ability and chutzpa to reach out to a mainstream audience.Ã,  They could have helped drive the genre forward, but instead they chose to sell out.Ã,  It's sad.Ã,

Quote from: SSHKinoko is female which will automatic double all interest on the forums in anyone's game.  See also Ola's PoE and Dart's involvement in ToaK.

Hm.  So by pimping ToaK I am also pimping Dart?  Now I feel kind of sleazy...

General Discussion / "Seinfeld" moments
Wed 16/03/2005 17:18:57
My mom and I usually have lunch once a week, and yesterday we had what I can only call a “Seinfeld moment.”

She was eating an omelette, and was down to her last piece when she said “This is the worst omelette I've ever had.”

“Really?” I replied. “It can't be so bad.  Let me try it.”

“It's my last piece!” she cried indignantly, “You want to take my last piece?”

“I thought you said you didn't like it.”

Awkward silence.  She speared the offending omelette with a fork, put it in her mouth, and ate it.

“It's really horrible,” she mumbled, chewing thoughtfully.

Just thought I'd share.  Does anybody else have moments like these?

I started a thread on this topic late last year:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=17202.0

The consensus was that, for most people, the game marketed itself.  Folks would upload the game on the AGS site and within months it would appear on dozens of other sites.  I suppose people are very hungry for these types of games.  Word gets around this scene pretty quickly.  If you want to take some direct action, there are a couple of other things you can do that won't cost you a dime.

-You can write emails to some of the major sites that review adventure games and hope one of them answers.  Something like, “Hey, I wrote this game.  You might be interested. etc.”

-Go to every freeware/shareware game site you can find and upload your game.

-Try finding a community that shares a common interest with your game.  If your game is about a fisherman, post a thread in an internet fishing group.  This can be construed as borderline spam, but you do have to start somewhere.  I know this can work because it once worked on me.  I used to frequent a Woody Allen usenet group, and I once came across a post pimping a series of flash cartoons.   The cartoons had nothing to do with Woody Allen, but the creator felt they might appeal to Woody Allen fans.  In my case, he was right.

The score doesn't matter, the thing that matters is WHY is it given. Or else there'd be no review - just a list of titles and scores.

This is quite true.Ã,  Some reviewers will rate certain aspects higher than others, and that Czech site in particular is known for being brutally honest.Ã,  Their reviews of my games have been quite harsh in places, but their criticisms were quite valid (inconsistent artwork, wonky programming, lazy animation).Ã,  It was quite refreshing.Ã,  No other site reviews so many indie games and goes into such detail.Ã,  It shows that they really CARE about the genre.Ã,  Who cares about negative reviews?Ã,  As long as the reviewer takes the time and effort to comment fairly, it can only make you grow as an artist/writer/game maker.Ã,

What is wrong with "pimping" your games?  It's called marketing, people.  Don't underestimate its power.  From now on, I'm going to talk about my games non stop.  In addition, I plan to completely sell out and offer a large line of "Two of a Kind" merchandise.  Why? Because I KNOW the world desperately needs a Tiffany Walters coffee mug or a Doctor Love pillowcase.  You know you want one.

Seriously though.  Alkis, I've always admired your success. .  Your game has achieved more mainstream recognition than most AGS games currently available.  I would hardly call that a disappointment.  Be proud.  Don't let this one event rain on your parade.

Could someone from the czech republic do the honors and translate this for me:

http://www.hrej.cz/abettermousetrap
(The grade on there is 57%, so I can't imagine that the website is very flattering, but I still remain curious.)

There's also this:

http://www.hrej.cz/twoofakind
(there's something that looks like a "Reader's comments" section as well, but I could be wrong)

Thanks!

August might be a very bad time for me.  Rats.  I'd go in a heartbeat otherwise.

Any chance of an earlier Brittens?

I was a telemarketer for one summer when I was 19.  I sold Craftmatic beds, off all things.  One of the worst jobs I ever had. :)

In all honesty, if the folks at your company are anything like the ones at my old place I don't think you'll have much of a problem.  Just be personable and speak well on your interview, and be sure to beef up any sales experience you might have on your resume.

The game is being worked on, albeit in a different form.

Hehe.  I would have voted for Eggie based on pure chutzpah alone.  Nice tunes everyone, and congrats Sluggo!

Great stuff!  And the ToaK review is nice, too. :-D
