I did, and I'm still reeling.  I turned it on expecting a lot of strong (but empty) rhetoric from Bush and stiff, incoherant ramblings from Kerry.  What we got was the total opposite.  Kerry was strong, clear and decisive.  Bush was stammering, rambling, and kept losing his train of thought.  Without his peeps to back him up, he looked like an idiot.  Without the republican spin campaign to bring him down, Kerry came across looking VERY good.  Kerry not only nailed Bush's ass to the wall,  he cut off a slice and fed it back to Bush on a plate.

Unforunately, I can't help but thinking “This is what we needed five months ago.”  Hopefully it's not too late.

Patience, precious, patience...

Most of the bugs have been sorted out.  Just a few minor ones and one big one.  A bit of dialog sprucing, and some graphical bits for the ending, and it'll be ready to unleash on the unforgiving masses.

General Discussion / Re: 9-11 Over?

Hm, I suppose this was bound to turn into a political discussion.Ã,  Here's my two cents.

If the republican party is good at anything, it's putting a positive spin on things.Ã,  Last year, they estimated that we'd be over $480 billion dollars in debt.Ã,  Turns out we're $420 billion dollars in debt.Ã,  Instead of worrying about it, or trying to fix it, their spokesmen get on TV and say, “Look!Ã,  We're $60 billion dollars better off then we thought we would be!Ã,  We're doing great, and it's all because of our strong decisive leadership, etc…”Ã,  Ã, What makes this so incredibly sad is that the majority of Americans fall for it.Ã,

As for Kerry, it's not a matter of “I fought in Vietnam, so vote for me.”Ã,  He didn't just fight in Vietnam, he was a highly-decorated war hero.Ã,  He won three purple hearts for bravery, among other awards.Ã,  And still he campaigned against the Vietnam war in the 70s because he realized how pointless it was.Ã,  The fact that he is a decorated war veteran who knows the facts â€" and horrors - of war should count for a lot.Ã,  Unfortunately, its not.Ã,  The Bush camp is making Kerry out to be a coward and (stupidly enough) a traitor, and it's working.Ã,  It's kind of admirable that Kerry is taking the high-road and not going on the offensive, but it makes him look like a wimp in the process.Ã,

I think Kerry would make a fine president, but it won't happen because the man can't campaign worth a damn.Ã,  The democrats should have stuck with Howard Dean.

Last year, I wrote a long drawn-out thread about 9/11 (which is HERE if anyone has the time to spare to read it).Ã,  It was a very personal day for America, and for us New Yorkers in particular, and it is right that we remember the day.Ã,  I know that I will.Ã,  However, I definitely agree that the rest of the world doesn't need to share in our grief.

Memory is a funny thing.Ã,  You used to be able to see the towers from a local park near my apartment.Ã,  A few months after the attack, I went to the park and looked down at the skyline.Ã,  For some weird reason, I couldn't remember where the towers were.Ã,  I knew they were to the south, but I couldn't pinpoint the exact location.Ã,  I don't know if my memory was just faulty, or if this was normal.

Sorry to re-use an old photoshop, but it seems like a good time for it:

Heh.  Well, Gilbot's name really IS "Gilbert", so yeah.

Happy to have helped!  It's always something simple like that.  I once spent a week frothing at the mouth because something wouldn't work right, and all I had to do was click one small checkbox.  Good luck with your game.

This is something I think about a lot.Ã,  I replay my old games now and I groan during the horrendously long cutscenes I wrote.Ã,  I refuse to skimp on the dialog though, since I love writing that stuff, so what's the solution?

One thing I started doing now is adding more interactivity to the cutscenes, mainly through dialog trees.Ã,  Instead of having your character respond blindly to an NPC, present the user with a dialog choice.Ã,  Then have the NPC respond to the dialog choice, then continue the conversation as normal.Ã,

I did this recently with "Without a Prayer" and it broke up an otherwise long intro/cutscene sequence nicely (demo HERE, if you are so inclined to see what I mean).Ã,  It's a design choice, really.Ã,  Long intros/cutscenes are okay, but if you can make them interactive in the process, so much the better.

Yep yep.  You can find the GiP thread for "Two of a Kind" (created by Berserkertails, Yoke, Dart Scotch and myself) here:

When I was in living in boston, I dated a gal who was in the sci fi club at Harvard.  Terry Pratchett was a guest there once, and she invited me to hear him speak.  He signed my copy of "Feet of Clay" and everything.

I also walked into William Shatner once.  Literally.  Turned a corner and BAM.  I smacked right into him.  Didn't realize it was him at first, as we both muttered apologese and kept walking.  It wasn't until 5 seconds later that the voice registered and I was like, "Dude, that was William Shatner."  He looks very different in real life.

Looks like I was a bit optimistic when it came to this game's official release date.  Many vicious bugs seemed to have wriggled their way into the game.  Our beta testers are dutifully rooting them out and we're attempting to squash them.  Perhaps another week or two.

* Vel thinks someone should make a game with the entries to this Artitude.

Well I AM going to be continuing the Mittens game we started at Eric's place, so the Scummbuddy, Netmonkey, CJ and Jetxl pics might find a home there...

There are no bugs. Only features. :)

That could happen due a number of reasons.  There might be a script that turns the objects on. Try deleting the objects from the room entirely and see what happens.  If they are still there, then you might have imported the objects as a character my mistake.

GOTO was used back in the old BASIC days when programs used line numbers.  If you wanted to move to a specific line within the program, you used the GOTO command.

10 PRINT "HI!"
20 GOTO 10

Would print "HI!" indefintely.

Ahh. Geek memories...

Anchorhead was superb,  and it holds a special place in my heart because it was the first game I ever betatested.  The keyring feature was my suggestion, and I was so psyched when the author implemented it.  Made me all drunk with power.

Quote. Now, at this point, no one had told me that Dave hadn't driven in 4 years…

Heh.Ã,  More like TEN years.Ã,  ;D Quite an experience, to say the least.Ã,  I quite enjoyed driving again, despite getting us horribly lost a few times on the way back to my place.  I was never so happy to see the NYC skyline in my life.

Nice report, Scumm.  I am eagerly chomping at the bit to see those videos.  Get those uploaded toot sweet!
