Finally, back on the track...the last few days have been weird, and I've slept intermittently and on unusual hours.

Mittens 2004 Electric Boogaloo was a great event, thanks to Eric for hosting it, he did almost as good a job as I did in 2003. Thanks also to Dave for putting up with me an additional day and night, his touring was great and I didn't want to leave so soon.

I've browsed the pictures, and I guess no event so far in history as been this well documented; more or less every minute is covered. The last supper picture should almost go in the front page of the AGS homepage, it's completely awesome.

Some highlights:
1. Bonfire with mashmallows and guitar and an extraordinary night sky by the lake
2. Dodge ball
3. The ultimate GTD ala Eric's punch verb
4. The Jet Ski ride
5. May-lay water polo
6. Illegal drinking in Saratoga
7. Sharing bed with Mark
8. Beating Fransisco in various Atari games one extremely late night
9. New York sightseeing
10. New York nightlife with Dave's homosexual karioke crew

and a hundred other happenings...

if I may add...

11. Getting lost 5 minutes outside of JFK airport
12. Late night adventure game theory discussions
13. Overflowing septic tank
14. Wooood
15. lots and lots of rain
16. The prophet crow of DOOM! ("Caw! Caw!")
17. Finding Scummbuddy camped out on the Mittens lawn
18. Cramming 9 people into my small studio apartment
19. Getting my ass kicked numerous times in Puzzle Fighter Turbo
20. Getting to meet all you guys!

DaveGilbert gets a visitor

Hah.Ã,  My buddy Kim will be happy to know she is now famous among AGSers.Ã,  She told me later that you all seemed like a "nice, laid back group of folks."Ã,  She would have hung out longer if she didn't have to run off.Ã,  Anyrate, nice pics, CJ.

Spent about 3 hours turning these into thumbnails and entering captions.Ã,  Don't be overwhelmed by the "25 pages" tag, a nice chunk of the pages only have 2 pictures on them.Ã,  Blame the photothumb software.

Yar!  Just saw Andail off to the airport in a taxi, so Mittens is officially over for me.  What an amazing trip!  Eric, thank you again for hosting all of us.  The week just zoomed by.  It was also a rare pleasure to show NYC to some of you.   9 AGSers crammed into my tiny studio apartment watching "Jerry Springer" has to be one of the most surreal moments of my life.  Pictures to follow.

Epileptic Fish presents...

Two of a Kind

The world of “Two of a Kind” is superficially similar to our own, but with one key difference.Ã,  Everyone is born with a special magical knack or ability, making life a bit complicated but definitely more interesting.

This game centers around Tim and Tiffany Walters, a pair of fraternal twins who go together like oil and water.Ã,  He is devoted to rock music, while she is devoted to her many stuffed toys.Ã,  She thinks the world is filled with happiness and rainbows, while he believes the world is a giant ball of misery.Ã,  Like everyone else in this world, they were born with special powers.Ã,  Tim can levitate, while Tiffany can talk to animals.Ã,  Plus, being twins, they can communicate telepathically with each other.Ã,  Although an unlikely pair, their unique bond has inspired them to form a private detective agency.Ã,  Their current case is to locate a mysterious crystal stolen from a local museum.

Features:
Ã,  Ã, - Two playable characters
Ã,  Ã, - A unique music system (dubbed “TwinTracks”)
Ã,  Ã, - Over 15 locations
Ã,  Ã, - Over 10 characters
Ã,  Ã, - Alternate solutions to puzzles

I futzed a lot with After Effects back in college.  Of course, this was about 6 years ago so my knowledge is woefully out of date.

Next: Three Happy Zombies in a RON game.

Game Title: Two of a Kind

Plot: 95%
Art: 15%
Music: 10%
Programming: 40% - that might seem high, but there's only because there's a complicated GUI involved which has taken a lot of programming.Ã,  So to break it down, I'd say the GUI is about 80% done, while the non-GUI stuff is 10% done.

We are all working together smashingly.Ã,  Every day I get suggestions on how to make the game come alive.Ã,  BerserkerTails came up with a very innovative music idea that I continue to get giddy about.Ã,  Yoke continues to amaze me with his mighty GUI innovations.Ã,  Dart's backgrounds are excellent, and she's drawing them so fast that you'd think she was being held at gunpoint.Ã,  Scotch is hard at work animating the characters and shading Dart's backgrounds, making them look even better.

The only setback is that I'm worried that the game might be too ambitious for such a short time-frame, but the team is eager and ready for the challenge.Ã,  When I voiced this concern, the response was a unanimous: "Don't worry.Ã,  We'll just have to work harder."Ã,  I couldn't ask for a better team.

Is there an official list of the folks coming to Mittens?  Just curious who is showing up.
#2150
I wouldn't worry about adding major backstory to the town right away.  RON hardly did any of that.  The mythology and the history grew along with the series.  That's part of what makes it a group project.

Howdy Vel,

Just a request.  Is it possible to extend the deadline by one week?  I can't speak for everyone, but many folks are going to Mittens and will be out of the running for the last week.

I came up with this idea during the previous PS contest, and this was a perfect opportunity to make it happen...

Sorry man.  I believed the rules say that you have to draw it yourself.  No matter how crappy.  Case in point, this:

Next: A scene from Michael Moore's next movie, where he links AGS to Saudi oil money...

Andy!

Didn't you die last year?
#2155
The question is, who will judge this one?
#2156
Er, um.

Gosh.

The first time I judge a contest and it blows up in my face.

This is a pic I took out of my office window when I was working late.  It's Times Square in New York City.

I posted this up on the RON forums, but I figured I'd post it here as well.Ã,

"Without a Prayer" chronicles the adventures of Rasputin Finch, a travelling conman priest whose wanderings take him to Reality. He decides to settle down in RON and open up a real church, complete with dancing girls and casino ("...cause if you're selling salvation, you've gotta attract sinners"). His quest to build this tabernacle erupts in lots of wacky hijinx that will certainly offend the religious right. Or at least, one can hope.

Some minor RON characters will be developed a little; including Ian Wulfe, Elaine Chappel, Kyojo and Pete Bailey. The new sprites will be drawn by our very own Wogoat.

A small demo is available here:

Here are some screenshots. RON veterans will have seen these backgrounds before, but I thought you might enjoy the dialog snippets:
