Hehe

Name who they are.

Hah.  "That 70's Joey" anyone?

Hm, methinks I'd like to participate too.  I can definitely do scripting, but my art ability is only slightly greater than a scrambled egg.

21? Old?

Pff. I say.  PFF!

I'll just go and check my 28 year old self into a nursing home.

I'm happy to see this thread as I seem to have missed it the first time around.  It gives me the opportunity to bring up something I've been wondering about.

I was pretty surprised at the reaction to Nishanthi in "Bestowers of Eternity."  Personally, I find her kind of boring.  When I was writing the game, I did my best to make her more interesting but I couldn't find the right places for it.  In the end, I just kept her as-is and hoped people wouldn't mind.

Since I released the game, I have gotten a number of emails from folks telling me that they find the Nishanthi character "absolutely fascinating".  This surprised me, obviously, and I wondered if the character's ethnicity had something to do with it.  Does the fact that she is a Indian woman make her more interesting?  If Nishanthi was a white woman, would she be just as fascinating?

I once wrote an article about this for AG.Ã,  The link is HERE if you want to take a look.

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used.

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

This week's photoshop topic is...

DISCO FEVER!

Our favorite adventure game characters (commercial or AGS) go back in time to the 70s to get their groove on at the local disco.Ã,  Portray what you think they would look like here!Ã,  I'd show an example, but I'm currently at a cyber cafe in Montreal and have no access to Photoshop myself.

Have fun.

General Discussion / Re: Any AGSers in canada?

Whee. I'm here.  I'm sequestered in a software training room trying to make heads or tails of this newfangled database thingy they are installing in our office next week.  Let the party begin.

I honestly don't know what's causing this, as I didn't change the default GUI code one iota.Ã,  Any advise is appreciated.

I'm going to be in Montreal and Toronto on business next week.  If any of you live near either of those places and would care to meet up, drop me an email or PM.

I used TADS back in college, but never created anything worth showing.  TADS and Inform were the giants in IF-creation world, but it seems that most folks use Inform now.

I was also hookd on Infocom way back when.  Floyd rocked.

Yes, because Eric knows I rock, and I know Eric rocks, so we can call each other stupid newbies and we're still cool.

Of course, Eric DOES have a disturbing habit of photoshoping pictures of me getting horribly beat up.  Maybe I should worry.

Well, I was suggesting that he MAKE a RON game instead of just editing one of the characters, but yeah.
#2173
You might also want to check out the RON project (http://ron.the-underdogs.org) if you have lots of trouble drawing your own artwork but have good ideas for games.

I played some AGS games, like Larry Vales and Rob Blanc, but I didn't know about the engine until I discovered RON.  I had read about it on underdogs and thought it would be something cool to check out.  I played through them all (this was back when there were about 5 RON games, as opposed to the 60+ today), and thought to myself: "Heck, I could do this!"  So I downloaded AGS.  Five games later, I'm still around.

And just because I feel like using the same joke twice...

Who can forget the trials and tribulations of Little Orphan Manny?
#2177
Hi, just finished it.  A bit confused about the ending though.

Spoiler

At the end of the game, you're back in AJ's room.  Is there anything to do?  Or is this a bug?  Speaking to AJ's mum still gives the response about Mrs. Derby having disappeared.  And going back to the church just crashes the game when I go into the back room.

Very interesting.  The gameplay mechanics are a bit wonky, but it's certainly worth a whirl.  I futzed with it this morning and will definitely futz more later.  Thanks for the link, eggs.

Ben Franklin wasn't a U.S. president either, and yet he's on the $100 bill.

As much as I dislike Regan, at least he was (for the most part) very honest when he went back on a campaign promise.  When he was governor of California, he said that his decision to cut taxes was "cet in concrete."  When he later had to increase taxes, he said "The sound you hear is concrete cracking around my feet."

I guess it just goes to show that public figures can get away with anything as long as they have a good attitude.  It's no wonder that Regan was called the Teflon President, since nothing could stick to him.
