I have now booked my tickets.

Alas, I arrive first at 6 pm, which is long after the brits...I don't know how big a stretch Mr Gilbert's taxi service can make, I'll just cross my fingers

Hm, that's a good point actually.  Could everyone who's coming to NYC tell me what time they are arriving?  It's a 4+ hour drive to Albany, so I'd prefer to leave earlier than later.

Right-o.  I edited the first post with the lost of folks who have confirmed, or are definite "maybes."  If you're going, check the list and please make sure you're on it. :)

Hi folks,

In case you didn't see the other thread.Ã,  I need to know who will need a ride from NYC to Mittens.Ã,  So far I only have three of you confirmed (AGA, CJ and Dark Stalky).

Drop me a PM and let me know.Ã,

I agree that some folks ask silly questions.Ã,  I had a MSN conversation with some kid a few months ago that went something like this:

kid: Hey, can you teach me how to do cool stuff in AGS?

me: Perhaps. What kind of cool stuff do you want to do?

kid: I dunno. I just want to learn how to do cool stuff!

me: Can you be more speciifc?

kid: You know.Ã,  Cool stuff!

me: It's not that easy.Ã,  You have to know what "cool thing" you want to achieve before I can teach you how to do it. :)

kid: I just want to know cool stuff about AGS!Ã,  Why can't you just show me?

me: Fine.Ã,  Just click the "Make Cool Stuff" button.

The actual conversation was more drawn out than this, but that's the gist.  I kind of found it amusing.

Currently carrying:
Door key

Use the key on the door.  Viola!

What?

Well it won't be part two you're paying for, but rather the complete game.  It will be redone from scratch at what I hope will be a professional level.  Of course, this is a WHILE away.  If this first project doesn't get off the ground, I'll just continue BoE as I originally planned.

Are you using windows XP?  Lunchtime of the Damned was written with the DOS version of AGS, and DOS programs run very unpredictably under XP.  There might be a better explaination, but it's the only one I can think of.

(This issue is mentioned in the RON "about" section, btw)

I read in a weird way.  I find an author I like, and then I become obsessive and read everything by the author I can find.

I'm currently into Lawrence Block - a fantastic, very avante garde, mystery writer.

I planned on renting a van or somesuch, which can usually fit around 10ish.  Hiring a bus just isn't practical, since you need to hire a driver as well.

Please PM me or email me at dave@davelgil.com and let me know.Ã,  Thanks!

Confirmed thus far:
CJ
AGA
M0ds
Dark Stalkey
Jetxl
Andail
Grundislav

Marked down, but not confirmed:

Pesty

EDIT:
I want to reserve the van early to prevent later surprises.Ã,  I will need to know how many people are coming to determine the size of the van.Ã,  So if you need a ride, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY JUNE 11TH!Ã,  After that, I can't guarantee there will be room for you.

When you're working on your subsequent games, they'll probably come to you faster. Practice makes perfect.

I'm not sure about that.
My second game is coming along much slower than the first.
Perhaps there's a wall, but it's not at game two for me.
I should probably be setting myself mini-milestones...

Having a chunk of the artwork already done for you helps, too. :)

Long Live RON.

It depends on the individual.Ã,  "Purity of the Surf" took about nine months, but only in fits and starts.Ã,  I spent two weeks working on it, then did nothing for eight months, then I got obsessed and spent another few weeks finishing it up.  Same thing happened with part one of "Bestowers of Eternity."

Modgeulator:

The new reset-midi file works like a charm.  The exterior music now plays normally.  Thanks so much for the help!  You rock the proverbial casbah.

Thanks modgeulator.  Here are the links:

The interior music
Exterior music

The "Exterior" midi is the one that gets all wonky.  I notice that when I START the game in the room with the music, it plays fine.

*sigh*

Still isn't working. :(

Maybe I'm not incorporating the midi file correctly.  Here's the code I'm using, where music7 is the "reset" file and music2 is the proper music track:

SetMusicRepeat(0);
PlayMusic(7);
while ( IsMusicPlaying() )
     Wait(1);
SetMusicRepeat(1);
PlayMusic(2);

Also, I compiled a section of the game where I am having the problem.  If anyone can take a look at it, maybe it'll help decipher what's wrong:

The first room sounds fine.  The problem starts when you get to the next room.

Spoiler

To get to the next room, pick up the bible from the bench and use it on the Sherriff.  Then climb out the window.

Not sure if "reverb" is the best way to describe it.  It's hard to explain.  It's almost as if the first note continuously echos throughout the song, getting louder and louder until it it drowns out the music.  Does that help?

modgeulator:

That second silent midi file doesn't work either.

I remember some folks complaining about this problem with BoE, but not everyone.  So I assume that it only happens on certain computers.  Could it be a sound card thing?  Or the way AGS interprets the MIDI on my computer?

Thanks for the help,
#2218
It was done in Quest For Glory 4, as I recall.  And in Loom.  Their mouths didn't animate, though.

Thanks.  I'll give it a go when I get home.

Just for my own curiousity, could you tell me what this file is?  Is it just a "silent" midi file?  What does it do, exactly, that solves the problem?

Hm, nope.  That didn't work.

The problem occurs when switching from one room to another with a different midi track.  I tried playing the "silent" midi file when entering the new room, and then setting up a queue to play the correct music track when it was finished, but it still sounded funny.

I tried it out on another computer and the same problem occurs.
