Just saw this. All I can say is...

Some some more portraits in. Here's Joey and Rosa wearing her coat. We've also low-rezzed the fonts due to overwhelming request!

Joey is not very hospitable to the outer burroughs.

Rosa leaves no snowman unturned.

Joey remains perplexed by modern technology.

Fun fact: the Face Noir guys approached me about publishing. I was about to become a father, so I turned them down. :)

Wow. This is really looking beautiful. Can't wait for this new episode.

Neither can I, believe me! :)

All the Wadjet Eye Games are available for 40-70 percent off!

That includes:

Blackwell Legacy
Blackwell Unbound
Blackwell Convergence
Blackwell Deception
Puzzle Bots
Gemini Rue
Resonance
Primordia

No Emerald City Confidential sadly. We don't "own" the game so we don't have a say in whether it goes on sale or not.

Great potraits. Remind me of first Gabriel Knight. This game is on my top 10 "day one purchase" list.

Thanks! It's nice having two "veteran" Blackwell artists back onboard. :)

Ian's been working on the character portraits. Here are some of the finalized ones:

This can't be good.

Ghosts make about as much sense as they always have.

More like Double PIE adventure, amirite?

Anyway, getting back on track, any developer has a story like this. Lord knows I've done some crazy things to keep my company going and get games out the door.  Sadly, Tim Schafer is in the unenviable position of not only being the guy to "bring back the genre" (although some might take issue with that), but also being the poster child for Kickstartering games as a whole (whether he wanted it or not).  The spotlight is on him, along with everything that goes with it.

Quote1. Does, for example, Dave at WadjetEye, pay a living wage to his employees? Healthcare? Benefits? I'm sure these are expectations of DoubleFine employees.

Comparing Tim Schafer/Double Fine to Me/Wadjet Eye is like comparing Spielberg to a kid with a camcorder. :)

This is SO typical of the industry. When I was working with PlayFirst on Emerald City Confidential, they gave me $200k to play with. That seemed like infinity, and I designed a massive massive game. A massive game that, once we broke it down and analyzed the costs, was impossible to make. So we cut it. By a lot. If you play the game, it's kind of painfully obvious where the cuts were made. It killed me that we had to do that.

As for Broken Age, I'm so torn about it. On the one hand, Schafer is doing everything right in order to mitigate what happened. He's being upfront and honest, and people are a LOT more forgiving when you are upfront and honest about things. Lord knows when I've made a mistake or colossal lapses in judgement, admitting what I've done is always more effective than putting a PR spin on things when crap happens. And crap HAPPENS OFTEN.

But on the other hand... I can't help but feel that this is such a "newbie developer" mistake to make in the first place. "Oh no! We are running out of time and money! Quick, release it in two parts! The first part will fund the second! Problem solved!" I see so many inexperienced developers do this, and it typically fails because nobody wants to get invested in something that might not be finished - an issue I continue to have with Blackwell but for other reasons.

But Double Fine is no newbie developer, so they can probably pull it off. At least, I hope so!

I hope they give Mona a different voice this time because MAN.

Sadly, I agree. And it's a shame, because Rebecca Schweitzer-Tico is an otherwise AWESOME actress. I know because I worked with her on Emerald City Confidential (she played Petra!). It's weird. In looking at the list of characters she plays, she is mostly known for doing weird accents. Apparently voice casting directors are morons, because her natural speaking voice is lovely.

Every time a Doctor leaves, there are rumors about the replacement being a woman.

EVERY. TIME.

It has yet to actually happen. :)

Personally, I'm a bit sad and excited to see Matt Smith go. On the one hand, I love his portrayal. He's really made it his own. I love watching him. But on the other hand... the writing has gotten almost incomprehensible. The pacing has increased to the point where it's difficult to process what is going on. Or maybe I'm just getting old. :) Either way, a Doctor's regeneration  means the show gets to reinvent itself from almost scratch. Try watching the old Eccelson episodes and it's almost like watching an entirely different show. It will be interesting to see what direction it goes in next.

I updated the original post. The position has been filled. Thanks!!

Hi all. As the subject heading says, I am in need of an artist to draw close-up photographs for the next game in the Blackwell series. Samples of the art style needed are as follows:

We will pay $50 a pop for creating images like these, and there will be around 15-20 of them. If you think you can match the style, and are interested in helping out, please PM me on the forum or email me at dave@wadjeteyegames.com. Please include links to samples of your art work.

Thanks!

RELIGHT!

Long time no see!

Nothing to add, really. Just cool to see you again, as it were.

One thing I will say about Indie Game: The Movie.

Taking a break from crunching on a game project to watch a movie about people crunching on their game projects... extremely bad idea.

This is very interesting! And will solve a ton of problems I've been having. Just one question:

Quote
1. You'll have to install AHK, which you should anyway, because it's infinitely useful.

Does the player have to have AHK installed? Or just the game's author? If the player needs to have this installed, than it is no good for a commercial developer since you will have to ask the customers to download other software in order to play the game, which is a no no.
#797
Yep! There are footprints. Check out the police station exterior image in the original post. The footprints are subtle, but there.
#798
And for kicks, here are some more screenshots:

Rosa and Joey get out of the city for once, and into the no-mans-land of Queens

It wouldn't be Blackwell without a real-world location or two. This is Grace Church.

Well. This can't be good.

Regarding DirectDraw vs direct3D, I would say the opposite is true. DrectDraw is barely supported at all these days. Especially on modern laptops. Almost a third of the original Gemini Rue players found that their computers froze when starting the game. We had to reprogram the snow/rain plugin so it could work in Direct3d as a result.  So I would suggest avoiding it like the plague. :)

You know... you're right. Setting the music channel property to play a maximum of ONE piece of music at a time, and then just playing another tune does the crossfade automatically. I don't know why I never tried doing that. So much for my giant function of death. Cheers!
