So what's it to be? The anticipation is so intense I can hardly breathe >_<

Thanks for the paintover and tips Damien :D. For the sake of style and animation, I am going to keep just two tones for each part of the sprite. Adding the third as you have changes the style beyond what I am attempting.

However, you have given me a couple ideas on what to do next. For instance, you confirmed my suspicion about the head, and when editing later I plan to take one row of pixels out of his neck. Next I may adjust the nose suggestion to horizontal rather than vertical.

Also, I really like what you did in the second step, with the midtone. I shall experiment with higher-contrasting skintones and see which I like better.

EDIT-

And done:

Shifted the shadow oh his shirt, the head sits one pixel row lower, and I worked with the hands a little bit. I think I will be able to start animating soon :D

Ah yes that does look quite a bit better. Thanks. I normally use swatches, and end up picking olive-ish colours for flesh instead of rosier ones  :-\  I should practice picking better ones from the spectrum, rather than the default swatch.

I lightened each of the flesh tones and moved his legs closer as you suggested, I rather like the skin change but I am still deciding about the legs. They look good both ways, the former having more of a superhero stance :P

Other changes I made were shaping his right (our left) pantleg a bit differently and changed the outline of the blue rings on the shirt to a dark blue instead of dark red, and put some highlights on his upper pockets. Failing any crits on things I may have missed, I think I'm finished.

The day has finally come. My first character sprite, ever, is in the works. After a long planning process, from being inspired to make this game during the first OROW competition, showing off concepts at Mittens 2005 and discussing the project during the first AGS Podquest ages ago, I am ready to begin  :D.

I have no problem shading and highlighting fine art, but digital always gives me a bit of trouble. My first couple highlighting drafts made his face look dirty, and I'm still not convinced I've got it right. Also, I am wondering if I have either too much highlight on his shirt, or if the shadowed area is too wide.

Perhaps those that don't want to see it should take the day off from using the editor on the days that it is goin' to iritate them..... (just a thought)  :-\

I don't think you quite get the point :P. It isn't the splash screen that bothers, it just that every holiday where one is shown, someone starts a thread entitled "OMG have you opened the AGS Editor today!?", as if out of a community of thousands they were the only one to do so.

Wait, that's actually not as far-fetched as it sounds  ::)

Still, I can't really see how Vietnam, Afghanistan or Iraq have ensured the wellbeing and freedom of American citizens.  Would anyone like to expand on this?

This is something I try to be mindful of when exposed to whatever propaganda I hear surrounding the United States' various military projects. A popular phrase is "support our troops, they provide the freedom you enjoy everyday". That may have been true in earlier wars, but I believe at least right now it isn't something in any amount of jeopardy.  Based on my day to day dealings with people who feel otherwise, I can only assume it is something we are trained to think, that our freedom is in constant danger of being squashed by far-flung enemies.

A former co-worker of mine is a perfect example of this behaviour. One day there was a notice on the bulletin board for a going away party for an employee who was going back into military service, and was shipping out to a base in Turkey. The co-worker in in question decided to show her patriotism by writing "He is going away to defend our country's freedom!!!! :)" beside the gathering details in big swirly, curly handwriting. I was quite close to asking her on specifics, about how she thought him going to Turkey would in any way be defending our freedom, but chose not to out of respect of the man who was leaving, as I really am grateful for what he is up to.

This was not my first run-in with her odd expressions of patriotism. A full year prior I had just come back from my trip to Greece and was telling her about the lack of variety of beer in village we stayed in, most shops having two, sometimes three or four choices, to which she said "Of course!!! If the Greeks aren't going help us in Iraq, we aren't going to distribute our beer there!!"

EDIT- erm, accidentally posted before I finished :P working on it

Freda vs. the Martians, almost three years since it's GiP thread. The premise was intriguing, and I was so excited I couldn't bear the wait. But we all know what usually happens in such instances  :-.

Hmm, nineties... suppose I can get nostalgic on you guys a bit. Maybe it's because most us had the mid-90's as our formative years, but unlike the 70s and 80s there seems to be a clear distinction between early and late 90s.

Early 90s makes me think of Sega Genesis, TGIF, Macaulay Culkin, Beavis and Butthead, Power Rangers, striped t-shirts, and good Saturday Night Live. Later 90s bring to mind dial-up internet, Spice Girls, teen slasher "horror" films, Daria, CD singles with unnecessary house remixes, and mediocre to awful Saturday Night Live.

Wow. Actually, my darkest secret is that I have OCD.

Thanks for sharing, I don't think anyone could have guessed that.

I respect the effort, but it really comes across as childish, self promotion/four friends patting each other's backs. The format is okay though, very brief and easy to find what you are looking for. Next time I recommend branching out to more of other peoples stuff and giving more than two irrelevant thoughts on each game.

I didn't realise until this afternoon that this was tonight. I have no clue which teams are playing, and I just barely even know what sport this is :P. It's not like the Michigan/Michigan State games, which I cannot escape no matter what precautions I take. Still, may the best team win.

The US Brittens wish-to-goers ... have been largely thinking of mid June

I'm looking into an alternate location for Brittens, I should be able to say for certain in the next week or two.

Last Edit: Yesterday at 15:40 by Pumaman

CJ, you sneaky sneak man :P. While you are still seeking alternatives, I wonder if we might continue the timeframe discussion. The US Brittens wish-to-goers are planning on an exodus from NYC, and we have been largely thinking of mid June to take advantage of the rates, as we will have the most expenses. Though for myself the plan is to take a one-way to England and stay until the British Mittens folk leave for Toronto/wherever in July. Can we come up with at least semi-firm dates, or is it dependent on CJ's magical cabin availability report?

I'm coming. How can I go to 3 meets over 4,000 miles away and not go to one that is closer to 300 :P. The problem right now is the deposits, I hope to be able to come up with some funds soon, but have issues being worked on right now with the nice people down at the unemployment office :/. I should be able to update my status within the week.
#538
I wouldn't mind if Brittens was held in beautiful downtown Taff's Well again :D. For times, I'm not sure if June is any cheaper than August. August would give me more time to save, but I don't see too much difficulties as long as I am soon employed.

Since I am moving around mid-September I would probably just stay for a month like last year, wouldn't be spending any more money than I would coming home and sitting around for a month :P

Does purchasing a URL count?  :P

lol. nope. registering has to be done through a government organisation with a lawyer present to go through the paperwork. its the only way things like LTD, TM, R, or any of those become legally binding. as for (C) now thats a whole new kettle of fish. The copyright laws change from country to country and ive had to do alot of reading up on it with the films ive been producing so that i can safeguard my ideas.

I am aware of this, was just having a laugh with some help from this Tongue emoticon -->  :P

Impressive Owl

Wow, this is really old...

The name came first, then I made a base sketch and coloured it. I don't remember exactly what made me think of Impressive Owl, as I believe I was sleeping when I had the initial thought.

here is the real question now. how many of these "companies" are real companies. with the registration paid and logos and titles copyrighted?

Does purchasing a URL count?  :P
