*cough*you're-talking-about-parallax-scrolling,-not-panning*cough*

I think you could achieve panning using parallax scrolling. But, as I said, I haven't tried it.

Probably true that there would be unresolvable perspective errors (but that's true of my drawings anyway  :) )

Not sure why nothing's happening. GlobalInt(10) not set? Is character[8].walking actually 0 when false (could it be null)? Is it really character 8?

When you do get that fixed, you'll have another problem - all three of your inner if clauses will execute and your guy will die on the first step. You can fix that by adding 'else's or by reversing the order of the inner if clauses.

But then, your second and third clauses will never execute because you're setting GlobalInt(11) to 1 just before you run those tests.

Change that to:
SetGlobalInt(11,GetGlobalInt(11)+1);

Old cartoons achieved this by having several layers of background that could be scrolled at different speeds.

Any reason why you couldn't build a background from, say, four objects (that cover more than the whole room in size but have transparent areas) and scroll by repositioning the objects at different rates? Haven't tried this, but I suspect it would work.

Thanks for the links. Money sent.

Much easier if you use arrays.

int num[10];

num[count]=1; // or whatever you want to do with it.

Nice game. (Even if I'm stuck at the moment).

The guy does walk too slow, but OTOH that matches the 70s retro theme.

Not really a game but more of an interactive musical animated Christmas card. (Interactive because clicking on characters/objects in the scene has an effect on the music).

Enjoy.

Merry Christmas.

I think the function you want is SetObjectPosition.

I had this same problem when I started an object with one view and then changed to another view with different dimensions. An easy way to find the right position is change the image of the object in the editor, move it to the right position and note the coordinates.

As illogical as that reasoning might be, I do agree with the overall point. Schumacher has made F1 boring with his constant winning -- I used to enjoy it, but nowadays I don't bother to watch.

What's needed is for the people in charge to say to him "Look Micheal, you're the best driver we've seen in a long time, but I'm afraid you're just too good. We're going to have to let you go."

Can't say fairer than that.

Maybe it would be better if someone just got off their ass and practiced enough to be able to beat him.

Thanks. I'll go try that now.

OK, so I've got a switch - an object - that I want the player to be able to move. And I want the cursor to change to interact mode when it's over the object. But I don't see a way to do that.

I tried putting a hotspot around the object and using:

SaveCursor(whatever the function is - don't have the manual in front of me)
SetCursorMode(2);

The result is that the cursor changes when over the hotspot until it reaches the object when it changes back.

I tried putting the script on the hotspot, which works except if the cursor is actually over the object. If I could make the object completely transparent to the cursor (but not visually) this would work, but didn't see a way to do this.

Any ideas?

You know, from an American point of view, the French rule against religious headwear is scandalous.

Many schools in the US prohibit hats... but, if a student protested because his headwear was part of his religion, the school would make an exception (or the Supreme Court would).

Also, most of the European opinion I've heard on this issue (the broader immigration issue) would be considered raving racism if heard from an American.

Not criticizing, just observing.

And they're not "turbans" they're "chaddor" a symbol of the submission of the muslim women to God.

Beeep! Wrong. Thanks for playing, please try again :)

Sikhs are not muslims and the men wear turbans and do not cut their hair or beards. They also carry a sword (usually a small ceremonial knife). This resulted in sikhs being arrested and harrassed in the US right after 9/11 since they are obviously asian and armed.

I was using 'dialect' as a linguistics technical term which is completely non-pejorative.

If it's a MIDI file, you can open it in any decent midi editor and change the tempo. Then save under a different name and you can play both. Of course it's not exactly gradual.

A decent audio editor will allow you to do this with an audio file too.

Great game. I'm part way through - a little more than half way based on the score - and stuck. :) But I'll get it eventually.

Finished, but only 58 points. Gotta go back and try again.

In the View editor, you can set a sound for each frame of the view. Click the text that says "NO SND" under the frame.

Not sure if you can edit the view sounds on the fly, but, at worst, you could change the view to one with the right sounds when the surface changes. I wouldn't want to do that for more than a couple of surface types though.

Oh, so, does Scottish really exists?
Yes. It's a dialect of English.

Scots Gaelic also exists with speakers in both Scotland and Canada. It's not a dialect of English. But Scots Gaelic and Irish are dialects of the same language.

I understand the problem.Ã,  English speakers have sort've formed their own CLAN by forcing everyone to speak their language.

We should all settle on a language NOBODY speaks so everyone's on the same level like "Esperanto" or "Elvish"Ã,  ;D

QuoteHmm, that intelliscore doesn't impress me. The midi sounds real odd.
I haven't tried it yet, but if you don't like the sounds just pull the file into a midi editor and change 'em. Still easier than creating the midi from skratch if you already have an audio recording.
