Just wondering... is it necessary for your character to be clickable in the game? Do the puzzles absolutely demand it?
If not, just check the "no interaction" button in the window of your character, and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.

I have no doubt that it can be done, with enough work.

The question is, aren't there engines out there that will let you achieve the same results with less work? I don't know, but I guess there are...

Of course if you do decide to do it in AGS, more power to you.

I always called it the "Disk Drive"...

Likewise. And "CD Drive" and "DVD Drive", when talking to someone who knows which is which. If they don't, I use the letters, same as with hard disks.

Suggestion: assign a global variable to the number of cards and increase it by 1 every time a card is found. Then when giving it to the special character, just check if that variable equals 30 or not.

As for looking at the cards, a second inventory GUI might be the way to go, but I'm sure far more knowledgeable users than me can tell you more about that.

I know I get sick and tired of having to play as a guy in games , so I thought it might upset some guys to have to play as a girl. *shrugs*

Personally, as long as a character is well written, I don't care about the gender. And most of the time, playing a female character in an adventure game is a refreshing change from the norm (cough, withtheexeptionofphantasmagoria, cough).

Did I write crop?
I meant resize.
Anyway, Geez indeed.

1) lay off the CAPS LOCK key.

2) Check what resolution you are using in AGS. (in the menu bar, Game -> Set game resolution)

3) Then, using the graphics software of your choice, crop the background image to match the resolution.

4) Read the frickin' manual.

General Discussion / Re:Australian/NZ accent

QuoteIf you watched the last Oscars, you'll know what a New Zealand accent sounds like.

Yeah, I know it ever since the two extended DVD editions.
And since watching Heavenly Creatures. "I think your drawing's fentestic." ;D

Make sure you have Cookies enabled in your browser.
Also, when you log in, make sure that the box next to "always stay logged in" is checked.

Are you sure you selected "this is the player character" in your character's window?

fovmester:

I don't think you're a racist. Please don't ever think that. With all the stuff going on in the game, how could any person with even half a brain think that?
I "got" what you were trying to do with the game, and most of the time you did it really well. And MrColossal, I'm not saying the game was not for me. I liked it a lot. It's just that one joke didn't sit right with me for some reason. I just felt sorry for ol' Ben, that's all. The game has been mighty cruel to him. ;)

Critics' Lounge / Re:menu for game .

I basically agree with the others, it does look a bit empty.
A suggestion: think about the central theme of your game, or maybe an important object, and consider if that wouldn't make a good starting image.
To clarify what I'm getting at, see this thread here, the second image suggested by the poster.

Whew. That was a tough one.

First of all, many many many thanks to everyone for the great entries - some really had me rolling on the floor (especially the ones with the LucasArts dialogue choices - but there were too many similarly great ones to pick out one "best one").

Also, I'm glad that my first Photoshop Phriday was so well received by everyone.
ElectricMonk wipes away a newbie tear.

Having said that, this week's winner is...

"Look behind you, a three-headed knight!" by Ghormak.

Congratulations!

And remember, if you've enjoyed participating in this thread only half as much as I've enjoyed reading it, then I've enjoyed it twice as much as you.

QuoteOops: I just realised something...Does that scooter look a little too big or something?

A teensy bit. Which might be good for a police scooter.
It might just be a scooter, but by God you will respect its authoritah.

QuoteOh, and lame main characters, the "born loser" main character especially, it's more than overdone.

I still prefer him to the faceless bland "main character" character who has no other traits than being the protagonist and who I therefore can't identify with. Seen that one far too many times, especially in amateur games, sadly.
(You know the type: short brown hair, one colour sweater, one colour trousers, often pops up in the Critic's Lounge threads)

Oh well, Electricmonk, right. Right.
And It's not good at all that you're right.
In matter fact, I think that you won't question my last statement here which is "whole thing sucks!".
Right?

Couldn't agree more, man.

P.S.S. About that us fighting thing: Electricmonk, I think you have at least two working humanoid-compatible eyes and so you can make difference between serious talk and total crap. This, in case is just caused by my semi-humorous way to romantise stupidity and give reason to nonsense. Ever noticed my Rogery avatars? :D In other words: just kidding! CJ gathering underground army? Come ooon...

Sorry, I just got an overdose of the "we're undergrounders/software pirates/l33t hax0rz/whatever and we're fighting big companies/lamers/other computer groups/whatever" rhetoric over the years that I fear I'm now unable to distinguish clever irony from puberty-induced ranting in that department. ;)
Yours being the former of course. And I like the Roger avatar a lot.

And the underground army: Hmmm. Judging by my fitness, I'll be the guy who ends up on the table while the others stand around him chanting "His name was Robert Paulsen"...
