Recruitment / Programmer, please?
Thu 28/04/2016 22:50:52
The 2016 Adventure Jam (http://jams.gamejolt.io/adventurejam2016) is coming up, and I'd love to use this year's Jam to complete a game I've had in design doc mode for several years (and even have mentioned here). I can handle all the art and other design bits, but while I'm ok with really basic AGS functionality (rooms, doors, hotspots, kindasorta items), I could really use an expert programmer to tackle some of the more complex code, or at least put up with me asking a bajillion n00b questions, and handholding me as if I was a toddler. (Seriously, someone once said "just use a boolean", and I had to go look up what that even was...)

I can't promise you anything but the satisfaction of a game well done, and the acclaim of the other Jammers, and my thanks (OTOH, if you're a tabletop RPG and Myst fan, I can hook you up...), but if even then this sounds like something you might be interested in, please drop me an email: elerihamilton@gmail.com

Hey everybuggy! I desire to haul my old game project out of the mothballs, and actually finish it. (I started it back in 07? Augh!) First person point and click game- which I know isn't AGS' forte, but the other adventure game product out doesn't have the active community that exists here.

I have the plot, walk through & puzzles all laid out, just need to go back over them and make sure it all still flows correctly.  I am rebuilding the room and item graphics, there's no PC sprites (but there may be 1 NPC sprite, sorta) I haven't decided about music/sound yet- it will probably exist, but getting the graphics and code done is a priority.

What I need, is someone familiar and comfortable with AGS to translate Elerieese into working code and puzzles- because I'm not familiar enough with AGS, and I can't code my way out of a paper bag, I need someone who can look at my puzzles and happenings and say "Yes, we can do that- here's what graphics you have to make for me to make that work" or "Frak no, come up with something different."

Not entirely flaky, willing to really make this happen would be nice, too ;)

Right now, all I can promise is full credit and my eternal adoration, which isn't much, I know :(

If nothing else, DarkComet can attest to my mad storytelling and puzzle making skillz, so you at least know you wouldn't be working on something entirely sucky.

thanks guys :) Figuring out how big I need something is a huge mental block for some reason. Doing the object on the background is so blindingly obvious, I'm gonna go bap my head against my keyboard for a few now. *weghl'ghwegwenio[ebui* ;D

Have made the sprites for objects in graphics program. Pull them into game and place them, and they're too big for scene. Can I make them smaller in game, or do I have to go remake the sprite?

I found stuff about scaling when things are moving, but not 'dangit, I made this newspaper the same size as the sofa!'

Okie, so I have puzzle where certain buttons need to be pushed. I have the graphic with the buttons in their off state, I was assuming that to make the on state be noticeable, I need to make an object for each button, overlay it, and then have the hotspot toggle the object on/off.

That's the right way to do it? Or am I missing something that'll make it much easier?

The first thing is to create a room using the list at the right, and after that another list should appear under that.  Scroll down and past Properties is Settings, and set ShowPlayerCharacter to False.

Is there any way to set this globally? Cause Lazy Coder is Lazy  ;D

ahha! thank you Khris :)

Yup, still broken. Frustrating when you're trying to look something basic up, instead of irritating people on the Beginner's forum.

Have been having a bit of trouble finding the proper code for this set up:

Player is in puzzle screen- if they solve puzzle correctly, they get cut scene A, if they don't, they get cut scene B

I'm unsure of the variable you'd use to pick one cut scene or the other based on the player actions.

Perhaps someone could put together a "Previously in RON..."-

Bonus if you can get someone with a voice like the "Previously on LOST" guy :)

As a complete n00b with a desire to create strangeness in the RoN universe, this makes me a Very Happy Eleri

The RON response has been generally positive, given that this is more spin-off RON than smack-dab-in-the-middle of RON.

If Our Heroine ever appears in RON proper, I'm sure she'll blend in ;)

I really like her hair, really just makes me want to grab it and pull until she bleeds.

In the "we have safewords, no need to call the cops" sense, or the "dear god no one should have hair that perfect!" sense?

Presented for your amusement, the teaser 'trailer' of the coming game Wheerd in Reality!

When a burnt-out Hollywood actress moves to an old house just outside of Reality-on-the-Norm, she finds herself the Star of a plot that would make Ed Wood a very confused man. Odd diarys, notes from the milkman, and strangely dust-free surfaces! What more could you want?

Nothing really playable, but something to look at :)

Plot is 100% done
Puzzles are 100% planned
Graphics 75% done
programming about 5% done

Extra ToDos:
Possible changes to the GUI and Fonts, fix some issues with the sprite, figure out exactly how to implement certain gameplay features...

Teaser RAR file

Much love to the RON folks for letting me into their playground.
