Scripting is something I've been dreading for a while now, and only now have I decided to give it a whirl…
What I want the Game to do is play a simple Intro:
Fade Into Screen One… Display for a while…Fade Out….
Fade Into Screen Three…Display for a while…Fade Out…
Fade Into Screen Two (Title Screen)…

The Script is as follows for Room 1…
// room script file
FadeIn(40);
Wait(60);
FadeOut(40);
ChangeRoom (3);
FadeIn(40);
Wait(60);
FadeOut(40);
ChangeRoom (2);
FadeIn(40)

But comes up with:
Compile Error: there was an error compiling your script.
The problem was in: ‘Main Script'
Error (line 2): Parse error unexpected ‘FadeIn'
Do you want to fix the script now?

Did I write it in the wrong script spot? Didn't I specify something? I dunno… Feedback will be appreciated.

Say… doesn't that look a bit like the Roger Wilco sprite from space quest 4? Got any help from there?  ;)

Nice work anyway 8) … got a walking cycle for him yet?

Wow, I just had a look at these, professional quality!
I can see much work and thought has gone into them, and I can't wait to see them in the full game!

No Crit… just paying homage.  ;D

Gah! I knew the boobs looked too big! A friend of mine said that if I took one pixel layer off them, they'd look too small, just goes to show… so don't get the wrong impression… :-[

And as for the other points, you see, the template from which she was made was originally that of a male, so maybe the features that were made to cover that matter up were too drastic.

Yes and I will improve on such points, thanks.

My God! IrfanView Rocks! Why didn't I see this earlier!?
Here is more game art for you to crit. And if anyone makes the connection between this art and that of yahtzee's “5 Days a Stranger” I know… it's in the eyes… after making them I thought they looked familiar.

Quite possibly the main character's Boss…

Boss' secretary…

Some Federal Agents…

And a skeleton thrown in for good measure…

You may ask yourself… “How do these characters tie into one another?” just don't ask me because even I have no clue.Ã,  ???

P.S: this'll be my last post for a while since I have family Christmas preparations going on at the moment.

Yeah, I will shift his ear back a bit but the position of his eyes is intentional, like a curious glance to the side.

I'll try adjusting his side view, it's his beard you see, makes his neck look really fat while it's actually normal  :-\

When I post next, I'll use the newer non-BMP image but where on www.irfanview.com do you download or access that option of converting images?

I'm b-A-ck!

In a unique blend of commitments in school, out of school, indulgence in my painting and forgetfulness, I have not posted in these forums in a while… I have made a handful of games but were used purely for testing matters, thus unsuitable to post as games.

Enough about that… here I have artwork for my upcoming game, all I need you to do is see if the in game character resembles my preconceived art of him and tell me how to make them more similar. I'll be posting more art as it comes by.

Oh raining hell from above! I posted a BMP! For future reference, how do I convert them to JPG's or something like that?Ã,  ???

I haven't really changed it much… just fixed up his face, proportions and messed around with the colours a bit.

Meh… here's my opinion…

Sorry about it being a bmp thingy, I'll get around to sorting it out some day (next millennia)…

NEXT: worst possible thing to find in your sandwich.Ã,  :-\

I don't know if this is counted as a puzzle, maybe not… but I HATE parts of a game where you have walking deads lurching around while you have to solve a variety of puzzles… and this is what almost put me off SP4 and 7days…

Because, take SP4 for example, I was walking around taking stabs in the dark, and just as I was about to leave the screen, that zombie thing rocked up… but at least it had a realistic progress system (while in 7days, the guys just pop up randomly).

The reason I hate this is because I feel puzzles take time, and patience, and I don't need to feel that something is probably going to get me if I don't hurry, or feel under constant pressure, specially if it's a really obscure puzzle.
Anyone else feel this way?

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?

Well here's mine, ever since I was a wee lad, I've always wanted to make an adventure game (because I couldn't get enough of them) but back then there wasn't a lot of opportunity to do that, so I dropped the idea. 7 years later (long time huh?) I just replayed SQ4 and then I remembered how much I wanted to make one, so I went to google and searched “how to make an adventure game” and I looked through the links and found something promising, I clicked the link and voila! I'm here today making games.

I'd have to agree with what you are all saying, seeing as the commercial adventure game market has at this point in time, come to a standstill, I think slightly modified RPGs are the way to go (and by modified I mean more puzzle then fighting based). On the other hand, they could still make adventure games, but make them more life like or give the player more freedom.

I have always been disappointed by the lack of realism in today's games, take “Thief” for example, I would have liked it a hell of a lot more had the house servants had more intelligence, like doing the dishes or chatting with each other, rather then standing around waiting for Christmas. Even if the game had a real life time engine, like people getting up and having breakfast and what not, so it is more character driven (frankly, running around sneaking and stealing gets a bit monotonous after a while)Ã,  :(Ã,

Sounds like I'll like this “Planescape” that you speak of, and if one of you AGSers is up for the challenge to make such a game (couldn't care how many mega bytes) it would set a whole new standard to adventure games.

Later.Ã,  Ã,

Ah, what the heck… every one else has done one, George is my middle name (how original) and I chose my avatar because I think Terry Pratchett's version of Death rocks.

Whoa! This is great! I only just discovered this thread and I like it! Do mind I can only do art related tasks (I can't script for peanuts…) but I excel in what I do.

Here is an example of my gob smacking skills!  ;D

Sorry I'm a bit slow on the uptake but it isn't too late to join the production team?

Err… I just sat down and decided to read this thread from start to finish and to say the least; I don't want to see another political statement for reasons regarding my sanity. Because… c'mon on people! Trying to sort out everything that's wrong in the world into one neat little folder is like trying to herd cats!

The only way a world run by intelligent beings can peacefully operate requires it to be populated by same gendered, same opinioned, same featured, same natured and overall a people with the same religion… and while there is variation, there will always be conflicts…

“A brave new world… the people in it…”
                               -A brave new world

P.S: please don't hold it against me if I just resurrected a dead thread… :-[

You say you're trying to create something calm? Well if I were you I'd go easy on the drum beats, because they sort of barge in on the rest of the tune… well that's my opinion.

But apart from that, you've got everything in perspective, keep it up!  ;D

Yes… it's Mr. Unproductive here... anyway here's my 2 cents…

It's only a quick job, but maybe you could elaborate on it, like have the figures in the bar moving, or add more wear and tear to the buildings. Or if you really wanted to, add benches and miscellaneous items (detail is always good, but in moderation).

Or, you could totally ignore and tell me to go off and make my own game.Ã,

God Blackthorne519! In a day and age where there are no more (MAJOR) wars… that probably deserves a purple heart! Wouldn't catch me doing that!! And the same goes for all you other guys!

Kinoko: Me too… :(

Hmm…I noticed that no one here so far has mentioned needles…err…the very word makes my stomach lurch. Stangely enough, even since I was about 5yrs I've never cried or put up a fight, but they scare the living day lights outta me! :o
