It's even weirder when Tabata is trapped in it.

Point: Give the voters a SECOND CHANCE!

(Sorry, just couldn't resist making this lame joke. :=)

Sega Rally?
It's actually Sega Rally 2, but this answer is close enough so I'll give the win to you.

Its connection with the last game was that late Iino Kenji (or Kenji Eno), the creator of Enemy Zero (and D, D2 for that matter) was one of the composers for this racing game.

Not putting much effort into it, I just stole borrowed a screenshot quickly from another site:

I don't know. This may be easy, maybe not. Hint: It was somewhat related to the last entry.

Enemy Zero?

Yeah, for personal uses it would be okay, but if it is to be released publicly you may take some risks, especially when the games are still being sold, even if the reconstruction is to be provided free of charge.

Sometimes the copyright holders just ignore you, but sometime not. For examples of games made with AGS, there was a game about a certain orange fat cat that was taken down, and I thought it was re-skinned to some lawyer-friendly version after receiving a C&D. There was also an AGS remake of the first Hogo game, and while the original authors appreciated the efforts they politely asked the game to be removed from circulation, because the original games were still being sold.

MI1 and MI2 were both officially remade already, though not using AGS, and you can still play with the original graphics, without the awful enhancements. Also, there may be copyright issues if one attempts at an amateur remade of the games.

Not familiar with the comic, it took me a long while to understand what happened though. I had to look very carefully at the scenes. Having mistaken the character as an octopus didn't help either.

As I failed my history classes I actually never expected I could answer anything or even post in this thread, but that AC/DC things kept popping up before me in recent years, so...

Let me try, hopefully this is easy and I get the facts correct:

I've tried but I couldn't find any idea, so anyone fast enough can steal this turn.

AC vs DC. I think its Edison vs err... Tesla?
The asshole Edison even electrocuted an elephant showing how dangereous AC was.

Golden Axe

*Ding ding ding* A winner is you!

It was actually taken from the arcade version. In the original Japanese version there was a brief scene in the attraction mode where the player decapitated a thug, which was removed for the other versions. The even more popular Mega Drive version (and most other ports as well) also had this removed for obvious reason.
For this reason, I bet not many people here might have seen this and this was intended to be the tricky part.

The reason it appeared high res was because the head zoomed towards the screen and it was quite large compared to the head of a typical character sprite.

Anyway, your turn!

(wrong)
I may post some more pics if there are more wrong guesses, but I think posting any other shots might have spoiled it already.

Hint: This is a not so obscure (I think, could probably be considered quite popular) action game. The posted image was from a certain scene that many people never got to see for some reasons.

Langriser, just too obvious. (And judging from those horribly mangled portraits it's the western version known as Warsong or whatever)

(Khris ninjaed me, and his solution should be a better one, but anyway, if your still want to check what inventory item is at a certain point on the screen my post should still be relevant.)
Hmmm. Just a quick check, maybe add a few pixels to the coordinates for checking what item it's pointing at and try again.
Something like:
Code: ags
InventoryItem *i = InventoryItem.GetAtScreenXY(InventoryWindow2.X + 4, InventoryWindow2.Y + 4);

Haven't really thought of the reason, but I suspect that one possibility is that you're not getting any inventory item by checking the upper-left corner pixel of InventoryWindow2, so you may need to check from a point somewhere inside that GUI (i.e. somewhere that you're sure you'll reach the item's icons), otherwise it always return null, which is the reason the label never changes (as you didn't have any codes to cater for the situation when the detected item is null).
#438
If there is no mouse control, what did you mean by "an inventory the mouse cursor is over"?

Or, do you mean, there is still mouse cursor, but other than hovering around the screen the cursor does nothing?

Please elaborate.

Don't know about newer versions, but AFAIK you cannot change the icon in the windows bar, at least not directly.
Apart from rebuilding your own engine from source, you may also try to hack it using say, Resource Hacker, which I have no idea on whether this works (Resource Hacker is quite old, and occasionally it could corrupt the files edited by it).

IMO, especially for games that are supposed to be sold commercially you better play safe.
What I mean is, using references is not something evil. Everyone does that, and that's an effective way of creating workable art. The problem is, in what extend should a piece of art be considered too similar to the original that it's considered a rip-off and not just for reference? That could depend on individual person's conception, but sometimes it's too obvious that the developers didn't try hard enough to alter the source materials (or didn't even try) to make them still very recognisable, especially if the source materials were from pupular IPs.

For the two pictures posted here, IMO ther're really not altered enough to be "original". In the corridor picture, it seems that only the door was removed and the whole scene tinted to another colour, and for the second picture, while are there some nice pixelly painted over heads, the whole scene is still unchanged. Personally I think recolouring some parts of it could help, like not using blue as its background (and - remove all those NBC logos!) and changing the colours of the guys' suits.

The catch is, even big name developers did use referencess A LOT, sometimes to ridiculous levels. Sometimes people got away with it, sometimes not. Sometimes they're considered parodies or homages, like the Shinobi case, but still, Sega had to change them eventual.

One problem is, as people weren't concerned about copyrights that much in the past, and that the Internet wasn't that popular back then, many things just slipped through, but it'd be hard to be the same nowadays considered how widespread information can become. One guy discovers "Oh this game ripped off XXX. They both have a blue dog!" and the next day everyone on the planet knows that. Even though the copyright holders may not take any action(maybe they don't mind, or just don't care) you are still labeled "the developer who rips off stuff" which may not be a good thing.

Alternatively, outright acknowledging what you have used for reference in your game my help a bit the situation, and sometimes it actually works if you ask the owners first, as they may just grant you the right to use their stuff directly. Like the Shinobi case above, they once got a license from Marvel so they could keep Spiderman, but still had to remove the reference once the license expired.
