You can use IsOverlayValid() to check if the text is still on screen (thus you can remove it if a new line is said, or just don't display one more line of speech if the last one's still there). For example:
You can do something like:

I don't know, but in my opinion if you keep the original graphics the gui is more fit if it's made in 16-colour-agi-like.

Walking deads in games generally means because of how you play a game, you may end up in a situation that no matter what you do, you can't complete the game anymore (unless you restart the whole game), so all you can do is wander around like a zombie without further possible progress. (It's sometimes called dead-ends, etc. but some of us just love to call it walking-dead).

Most of the time it's due to design of a game, for example in some of the earlier Sierra adventure games, it's not uncommon that you forgot to pick up an item and had played to a point that 1. you cannot return to the part of retrieving the item anymore and 2. you MUST have the item to make some progress in the game. So you're forever stuck, unless you restart or have kept some old save games handy.

It's intended, because what the header actually do is that the content of the header is inserted to the top of each of the room scripts.

When you play a "video" I think the engine just called DirectShow, so whatever supported by DirectShow can be displayed (and it must be an external file, so, no, it won't be compiled into your game), but remember, PlayVideo() works only with the windows engine.

Well that 1-child policy was actually creating tragedies in the mainland. While sometimes parents may love their only child many bad things happened to other families.

(This is not offtopic as it's also dealt with bad parents.)
Traditionally, we Chinese like boys more than girls, for conservative reasons such as keeping the bloodline of the families, and boys are in general stronger, so are more adapted to work on the fields.
When couples gave birth to a baby, if it's a girl, it's not an uncommon news that they may kill her (stangled her to death, choke her in water, or just drop her elsewhere), especially when it's in poor farming regions (if the parents are richer, they may think of abortion, before the baby was born). Often times you can even find dead babies scattered around in the main street in some places.
Another problem thus produced is that now there're much more male youths than female in the mainland (in contrary to Hong Kong here, which is opposite).

Due to these mishaps, I think the policy is not enforced that hard anymore in the mainland.
