Heh none of your are dreaming, JPEG and GIF imports WERE supported, but not anymore.
Reasons are:

1) Since no matter what format of images you used for importing, AGSedit automatically convert them to the same formats (sprites: uncompressed, backgrounds: some lossless compression format), so using JPEG for import WON'T help decreasing the size of the game, and since JPEG images were already lossily compressed, that means they suffer from some amount of detail loss, so JPEG import was removed so not to encourage anybodies to use it.

2) The original GIF importing library used in Room/AGSedit was quite buggy, it's causing damages and crashes and the likely kind of behaviour, so it was latter removed, seeing that it won't hurt without using them, as you can use PCX or BMP anyways.

You've got me there. The real reason I've been away a lot lately is that I've been in negotiations with Microsoft, and they have now agreed to buy AGS for $10,000. They're now employing me to add all these 3D features to 2.7, but have also banned me from creating a Mac port and said that the Linux and DOS ports must be removed.

I feel it's worth it though.

;D That makes me teh GREATEST AGS prophet, I had predicted years ago that M$ would buy AGS and sell it in disguise with the name Adventure Explorer.

hehe, it's not in Japanese, it's Chinese. But it doesn't matter anyway, as there's actually NOT a single word on the tut, so just watch the step-pics and you got it all. (The remaining posts were just comments)

Actually I suggest NOT to change the default sprites, because I like them and you-know-what? They're CJ's own masterpieces! SO LEAVE THEM ALONE!

heh I just get this funny one:

FROM THE DEST MIKE IFE, WEMA BANK PLC, LAGOS-NIGERIA. EMAIL:mike.ife@xxxxxxxx.com DIRECT PHONE: 234 xxxxxxxxxxx DEAR SIR, STRICTLY A PRIVATE BUSINESS PROPOSAL I AM MIKE IFE, THE MANAGER, BILLS AND EXCHANGE AT THE FOREIGN REMITTANCE DEPARTMENT OF THE WEMA BANK PLC. I AM WRITING THIS LETTER TO ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND COOPERATION TO CARRY OUT THIS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY IN MY DEPARTMENT. WE DISCOVERED AN ABANDONED SUM OF $15,000,000.00 (FIFTEEN MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY) IN AN ACCOUNT THAT BELONGS TO ONE OFOUR FOREIGN CUSTOMERS WHO DIED ALONG WITH HIS ENTIRE FAMILY OF A WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN IN NOVEMBER 1997 IN A PLANE CRASH. SINCE WE HEARD OF HIS DEATH, WE HAVE BEEN EXPECTING HIS NEXT-OF-KIN TO COME OVER AND PUT CLAIMS FOR HIS MONEY AS THE HEIR,BECAUSE WE CANNOT RELEASE THE FUND FROM HIS ACCOUNT UNLESS SOMEONE APPLIES FOR CLAIM AS THE NEXT-OF-KIN TO THE DECEASED AS INDICATED IN OUR BANKING GUIDELINES. UNFORTUNATELY, NEITHER THEIR FAMILY MEMBER NOR DISTANT RELATIVE HAS EVER APPEARED TO CLAIM THE SAID FUND. UPON THIS DISCOVERY,I AND OTHER OFFICIALS IN MY DEPARTMENT HAVE AGREED TO MAKE BUSINESS WITH YOU AND RELEASE THE TOTAL AMOUNT INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AS THE HEIR OF THE FUND SINCE NO ONE CAME FOR IT OR DISCOVERED HE MAINTAINED ACCOUNT WITH OUR BANK, OTHERWISE THE FUND WILL BE RETURNED TO THE BANKS TREASURY AS UNCLAIMED FUND. WE HAVE AGREED THAT OUR RATIO OF SHARING WILL BE AS STATED THUS; 30 % FOR YOU AS FOREIGN PARTNER, 60 % FOR US THE OFFICIALS IN MY DEPARTMENT AND 10% FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF ALL LOCAL AND FOREIGN EXPENCES INCURRED BY US AND YOU DURING THE COURSE OF THIS BUSINESS. UPON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS TRANSFER, I AND ONE OF MY COLLEAGUES WILL COME TO YOUR COUNTRY AND MIND OUR SHARE. IT IS FROM OUR 60 % WE INTEND TO IMPORT AGRICULTURAL MACHINERIES INTO MY COUNTRY AS A WAY OF RECYCLING THE FUND. TO COMMENCE THIS TRANSACTION, WE REQUIRE YOU TO IMMEDIATELY INDICATE YOUR INTEREST BY A RETURN E-MAIL AND ENCLOSE YOUR PRIVATE CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER, FAX NUMBER FULL NAME AND ADDRESS AND YOUR DESIGNATED BANK COORDINATES TO ENABLE US FILE LETTER OF CLAIM TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENTS FOR NECESSARY APPROVALS BEFORE THE TRANSFER CAN BE MADE. NOTE ALSO, THIS TRANSACTION MUST BE KEPT STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL BECAUSE OF IT'S NATURE. I LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE. REGARDS, MR.MIKE IFE. WEMA BANK PLC NB. PLEASE REPLY TO <mike.ife@xxxxxxxx.com>

It's funny that there're no linebreaks, so probably no-one would have the patient to read thru it. I had changed some of the "infos" to x's for obvious reason (and no, I haven't really read thru it).

I'm born on the year of the tiger! Wooh.
Heh me too, that means I'm probably 12 years older than or younger than you.

Actually it's a frequently mentioned thing, no matter what the graphics file format you used for import the resultant data are the same, sprites are NOT compressed in an AGS game for speed issue, while bgs in rooms were compressed by some lossless algorithm when saved (which has nothing to do with the original file, and according to CJ should be quite good in compression rate), so sizes and number of sprites are quite critical to file size, if you really need to keep a game small (even when it's not zipped), you may need to have some planning on their usages.

Hehe, what a coincidence, I got exactly the same mail today! <--Truth

It sounds attractive!

Actually in that case I'll suggest running a timer (using internal engine timer or gameloop coutning or using the Time functions) when the music starts, that may help.
#6930
Put that variable declaration line of jim_health outside of game_start() function, otherwise it will be declared within the function and destroyed when the function ended.

So just put the line:
int jim_health = 10;
ON TOP OF the global script, OUTSIDE any functions, and it should work.
#6931
I'm not quite sure, but did you delete some sprites or other things?

--edit-- Okay I suppose it's just an accident you double posted, I'll lock this thread so everything keeps in the other.
#6932
Hmm are you sure the label's on GUI #1, not other number?
#6933
Check out SetScreenTransition() function from the manual.
#6934
The reason they appear (seemingly) simultaneously was probably because the period is too short, for milliseconds, 1s = 1000ms, reading your code showed that the objects will all be visible within 1166ms which is just 1.166 seconds, have you checked that the numbers are really set correctly?
To stop the MP3 file, just use StopMusic(), as PlayMP3File() is just an alternate function to play a background music (in MP3 format) if it's not packed in the music pak, copied fropm manual:

Quote
Since normally MP3 files are built into the MUSIC.VOX file, there may be occasions where you want one MP3 (for example, the intro music) to be distributed with your main game rather than the music pack. So, this function allows you to play any named MP3 or OGG file. However, you will have to bundle the file seperately in your game distribution (it is not automatically compiled into the EXE).

I think the most important feature of AGS V3.0 (if it's still called AGS) is *ba da dum!* the hidden function:

SendAllMoneyToCJ() which always execute once while starting a game and deleting sprites in AGSEdit.exe.

Get the installer version from:
http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/

hehe as I'm not actually an artist, I won't argue much, but I's like to answer as a comical reference:

No smooth command?
No, but why ddi you really need it if you're drawing pixel graphics, moreover, I mentioned I use something else for "paintings" already.
No tolerance fill or select?
If it's your own art, not scanned, not photorealistic, no smoothing in lines, no jpeg artifacts, and you're just going for simple stuff, why bother using these features?
No bezier lines?
I never like curves, I always use the straight line tool, curve tools are never useful to me unless it's a vector image.
NO LAYERS??? (A big one for drawing backgrounds. I like to put objects on a different layer so I can draw under them.)
That's just a challenge on one's ability on managing things, moreover, for more complicated stuffs I'll use DP or other better proggies anyways, which I had mastered the stencil tool, which had even more useful functions than layers anyways (for pixel arts).

And I think people did had some misunderstanding ;) , actually I hate M$Pain, as it's buggy (try using it with BW image) and IMO it's the crappiest painting programme ever made, yet I still use it because just it's light, clean, simple and fast.

And moreover, GIMP won't really work for my tablet, so it's pretty useless for drawings to me.

Maybe as a workaround, just put large chests in some certain rooms, so you can "drop" them into the chests (can be archived quite easily by simple scripting, a more simple way is to make illusional characters to hold the content of the chests).

* Gilbot V7000a likes how the TV images look.
For example I consider playing my PCE games on a real console on a real TV a much greater moment than playing them with any computer emulators, no matter how many additional features they have, because they suck and playing them with a computer monitor is never the same thing.

So it may not be that stupid...

However, for AGS games, in my opinion, they're designed for running with computer, and I'm not interested in playing them on TV myself anyway.

If you already have the GIMP, why not use it instead of MSPaint?

Heh I use GIMP only for retouch and saving, animated gifs and such, as it's crap for drawing pixel graphics and complicated enough for painting (to silly me), moreover, my cheap tablet won't work properly with it (as stated in the wingimp homepage).

For pixel art I prefer DP and M$Pain, for non-pixel art I'd rather use Open Canvas 1 (which lacks MOST functions, but that's what made it GREAT).
