Heh That's okay.

In my opinion, since they're not doing these things for money or attentions, it's actually possible that they are not in competition.

Moreover, A and ezine are organized by different persons, if they join force and merge together, sometimes it is difficult to keep the updates consistant without firm cooperation. On the other hand, managing one's own project provides more freedom, that they can do things more closely to what they want.

So we can just leave them as separate projects, and I know that there'll be probably some features specific to each of them.

Actually I'll instead suggest that a textscript function StartRoomAnim() be added, so as to restart the bg animation stopped by SetBackgroundFrame(), as the bg animation wont play automatically any more after it's been stopped.

I think the main problem would be room size, increasing frame limit of rooms can be easy, but it can increase the room size drastically if many frames are used (which probably affects loading time also), and if you need to use that many frames, the ability to use FLICs as room backgrounds would also be implimented alongside with it as well, which I think is on the list, but probably not of high priority.

He's talking about Sylpher.com's AGS articles:
www.sylpher.com/a

However, I don't find any problems in having more than one such err... things, as long as their contents are worthy enough for viewing.

So... Keep up the good work!

Doctor, doctor! Why do you leave your pants' zipper open?
#7546
Though I know you're a liar, Pumaman, I'll try that MAEK MI GAYME! option anyway. ;D
#7547
There was an AGS XMAS wallpaper, did you know that?

I'm too lazy to find the link.
#7548
Is it completely copied from your script? In that case, you should add semicolons to end of each line (and remove those commenting //'s of course for them to work):

// room script file
MoveCharactertoObject (JACK, 2);
ObjectOff (2);
AddInventory (3);

I know you'll be back, so see you lat0r.

I agree that there didn't seem to be much character development in PB, Jake doesn't seem to have much character, as with the others, Parker, etc. Not much is known about the bad guys either, even after you beated the game, they're just identical cold guys in a robes, that all of them looked the same.

It seemed.

In fact, what is good about this game is not how the characters' characters (hehe I like this phrase) were developed in the game, but instead how the player was affected and his involvement in the game. Like what eric typed, that dream was one part of it, the in game Jake didn't seemed to be much affected after that, neither in his actions nor his dialogs, but you, the player, can be affected by that sudden event IMO, that you yourself felt about it - the story, gameplay, excitements for those timing puzzles, that you got yourself involved in it, and of course, also the realistic gameplay (clicking elevator buttons, using the keys everytime, submiting evidences, etc.) helped the player to get INTO the game too.

Advanced Technical Forum / Re:String Arrays

String arrays? Really? As far as I know string arrays was never supported (maybe I'm just outdated :p ), at least not for Pumaman's own text script engine. Which version did you mean? Maybe it's pre V1.14 versions that used SeeR or some older engines?

it was very Resident Evilish, but I'd rather play the original.

Come on! The Bio Hazard... Resident Evil series is a shameless rip-off of the AITD series.

Good idea! I  think this can be placed in some large thread with script help/references. Since I'm too lazy to find it at the moment, I'll just stick this thread on top now. :p

IMO there is no point in making a game with "all" the feature used, 99.9999% of chance that such a game would just be complete crap, as the creator just wanted to use "all" the features on purpose, not for the good of the game itself.

Remember, AGS (alongside with all other game engines) is just a tool, it wont automagically turn your game into a good one even if it has many good features and you use most of them, quality of games relies on 1. the design and 2. the implementation. Though using a more powerful environment (game engines, utilities, tools, etc.) may help in implementation, but the design of it is still very important and shouldn't be neglected (most modern games lack good design).

Moreover, you "can" use more than 299 rooms in AGS.

And if you see this, agsking or gilbot, why is dpaint good? What can it do better?

DP can do much more than M$Pain, though actually using a small subset of its function is already enough, and it's designed for indexed colour pictures (so no true/hicolour crap, for the PC version at least), whereas support for index colour in M$Pain is extremely poor, which is the case for 90% of window$ programmes. Finally, DP is for DOS, which is what I REALLY need.

Heh I like the right click rubber tool too, that's how I make coloured outlines, though the Stencil function of DP is far more powerful (another feature overused by me). Too bad my office computer is messed up so M$Pain always crash for me.  :'(

* Gilbot V7000a wants to help teh infamous Chris Shannon out, so...

* Gilbot V7000a makes fun of Chris Shannon: "NANANANYA!1!"

AWWW That's enough. Stop that!

If you're using SCI fonts for speech and those "o with dots on it" (i cant type in these characters here) are using ASCII #>127 then it's most likely to crash the game, as displaying characters with ASCII code>127 with SCI fonts is not supported.
