Hello AGS'ers,

I and friends of mine have been working on an adventure game. It's in control beta right now, we'd like to hear your opinions about the controls.

Intruder is a thriller/adventure about a woman stuck in her 2-story house with an intruder. She will hide from the intruder and find a way to escape from the house.
You can keep only two inventory items at a time. The intruder will keep walking inside the house in the completed game, you must not get caught by him!

In this beta, we want players to test if the game's controls are understandable. The puzzles are easy and short for now. We will keep working on development according to your feedbacks. We are waiting for them!

Download/Play link:

Team
Emre Can Ölmez designs the game. I do the programming. 3D models and assets are mostly bought from Asset Store, Cemre Naz Uyanık models the original ones.

We'd like to hear any kind of feedbacks and questions!

Hello AGS'ers,

I'd like to share a web comics (a short story, in fact) I really enjoyed reading: Disregarded. It's created by my two friends for WebToon's short story contest. The main reason I'm sharing this is we (friends of the creators) got strong adventure game vibes with the comics.

"Diana wakes up in a hotel room, not remembering anything about herself. But that's the least of her problems because there is a decaying body in the bathroom."

I don't want to spoil what happens next, but the chapters made me wonder what will happen next.

That looks quite interesting, looking forward to play it!

Also, and I don't want to get into a nerdfight over this, but I am 100% convinced that they messed up how Dr. Manhattan's holistic time-perception/prison of determinism works.

What disturbed me was
Spoiler
how easy Dr. Manhattan got caught by that machine. I get that he knew he would get caught, but it was like "I know I'm going to be caught, so I'm not going to do anything to prevent it".

It looked like a logical error to me, but I don't know how other people feel.

I really enjoyed the TV series, but I haven't read the comic yet, maybe my feelings would be different if I read.

General Discussion / Re: Edge or Chrome?
Sun 14/10/2018 18:17:44
My software usage is mostly based on how I feel about them. I almost never used Edge, because I know IE was a bad browser, I felt like the problems would continue with Edge.

For me, the actual comparison is between Firefox and Chrome. I choose Firefox, because I like it for reasons I can't explain. Chrome is used for my secondary accounts on sites like Twitter.

Babar came to Turkey recently with his friend. They were mostly in other cities, but they had a chance to visit Ankara (the capital city, also where I live in) yesterday. I brought them to the city center, places where Turkish food are served best, and a random cafe where they could drink Turkish coffee. I was planning to show them a street which is more like European and drink the coffee there, but we had to take their train tickets and it was too adventurous, so I took them to a cafe close to the place where we bought the tickets.

It was such a fun day. I hope I can meet other AGS'ers in the future, too.

Yes. 5 Days a Stranger and Scratches are two examples I can remember. I'm sure there have been more games that scared me during playing, but I can't quite remember them.

Also, Silent Hill games.

I don't believe it will gain that much value in the future

Hmm interesting perspective. Why do you feel this way?

I'm no expert, my beliefs are only beliefs.
1. Today, everyone is in the Bitcoin stock market. I see people who are not familiar with digital world try to gain profit by cryptocurrency. I have suspicions about market being able to make so much people rich.
2. If Bitcoin would be accepted in major online markets, it would be great for us. But I don't think cryptocurrencies will be accepted as payment method in close future. Instead of that, some countries like China tries to ban it.

My Steam review:

As a fan of adventure games and Lynch films, I absolutely loved this game!

The whole atmosphere is uncanny. Even the gift box is uncanny, it made me wonder what is in it during the whole game. Our not-so-nice solutions to puzzles help to build the tension of the story.

The puzzles are good. Everything we do makes sense, I needed to open the community guidelines only for the password one (I knew what the password was about, but only I wasn't sure about its format).

The soundtrack is great, I must say they really have a Lynchian vibe.

As a side note, I played the game with Nearest-neighbour filtering. I think it should had been on at default.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful opinions! It seems like West culture != USA culture.

Do you think a general West culture exists? For example, an FPS game which takes place in a Christian graveyard and you fight with the ghosts. We tried targeting the West in general in Graveyard Shift, it seemed to work, but the game failed for reasons beside the cultural elements. I believe that an RPG in which the world resembles European Middle Age may target Europe and America, too, but I'm not 100% sure.

I made the mistake of buying Bitcoin while it was at its peak, it was like $20K. I only bought the equivalent of $30, but I still feel silly for that.

I don't believe it will gain that much value in the future, but I still plan to buy some more BTC when I have money to play with. Regret of not buying BTC would be worse if BTC gets valued.

It would be an interesting topic but it depends on a lot of factors in my opinion, in particular the target audience and game genre. What kind of games are we talking about?

Any PC game. The topic of the conference is publishing games on Steam.

Hello dear AGS lovers,

I am going to give a presentation about publishing games on Steam, the event is called Game Talks Ankara. A topic I'd like to include is Universality vs Localness. In other words, "Should we make games for world or only our country?".

I have got some thoughts, but I want to hear your opinions. As far as I see, when we make a game for universal audience, it is actually the West culture we are talking about. USA, to be exact. Because we assume that a non-American person would expect American culture when s/he buys a game made in another country. Personally, I make games based on West culture, it seems like it works to make my games known in the world.

Another point is, East Asia has its own culture, it's really hard to make a game target both West and East unless the content is quite minimal (like only a bird, or geometrical shapes).

What are your opinions?

I have been using Paint XP since I stopped Windows XP. It has all the simplicity that our original Paint offered, and it works on modern Windows versions.

Hello everyone!

I've written an article titled "How I scare people (Personal tips for creating horror games)", in which I talked about horror techniques I used in games like Self, Lost in the Nightmare. Some of the headlines are design factors (like "Unknown is the scariest", "Ultimate Evil", "Ending of the story"), which might interest story writers.
