I agree with Khris.

Whilst I enjoy playing many, if not most of the games in the database, there are very very few that I would actually pay any sum of money for (this definitely includes my own attempt!). As AGS game developers (of varying levels of skill and if I can use that term to include myself?!) we enjoy playing a lot of games that the great unwashed masses simply won't, as they are comparing them to full commercial games, and we (mostly) to our own efforts. [/personal opinion]

With the greatest respect to everyone concerned, and from a non-AGS viewpoint, I would agree that there are only a handfull of games made with AGS that rise above "the throng of generic point-and-click adventure games".

This does not mean that "the throng" are bad or cannot be enjoyed, as I certainly enjoy most of them, but most do not reach the level that the few do, which will interest non-indie-game-dev-liking-people.

General Discussion / Re: Japan - Fallout

Personally I think a fallout sequal in post apocolyptic Japan would be great! ;)

It's amazing how other countries have freaked out over this, even the media in the UK doesn't seem that worried.

No gaming reference but here's a pic of a fancy dress BBQ I attended a while ago. Theme was countries of the world for some reason that now escapes me.

I'm the guy with the spear if anyone's interested!

Although conservative people would like you to think otherwise, the only difference between a happy married couple and a happy couple is on paper.

Not legally so. You can have as many unmarried partners as you like (as you are able? ;)) but you cannot marry more than one person at a time, and to do so is an offence.

Married couples often receive benefits of other kinds in many countries such as tax breaks. One of the peculiar ones in the UK is that your car insurance premiums can go down when you marry! (This isn't a legal requirement of course and I have no idea what the rationale behind it is!)

QuotePlus, to tackle this from a completely different angle, outlawing adultery is like putting band-aids on gashing wounds. It's useless, short-sighted and won't solve the original problem in any way, not even temporary.

Completely agree with this, prevention being infinitely better than "cure".

QuoteTo my mind, marrying someone before 28 or so is insane; people younger than that are completely unable to grasp what it means to spend one's life with somebody.

Personally I married at 25 and do not regret not waiting longer at all. Different for different people I suspect. Having said that, if I had married at 18 I honestly dread thinking about who I would have married. ;D

In any event I agree with those who have said that this is really a breach of contract, which is not a crime but a civil offence, and therefore any "punishment" that might be given should be on this basis, and not a criminal one.

Gentlemen's disagreement taken to PM. :)

Apologies to Rick for the thread hijacking!

I never accused this neighbor (or claimed he should be accused).  I contend (and stand-by) that there is enough evidence to warrant looking into his potential involvement further.  A suspicion of guilt is not an accusation. I didn't say he did it (again, again, and again I've said I doubt he did).  But you don't overlook any connection in a matter (a disappearance) like this.  No matter how circumstantial.

But with respect you have missed the point once again. There is no evidence that this neighbour eats cats, and there is, to my mind, nothing to suggest that he is any more likely to than any of the other neighbours. Why then should his potential involvement be looked into further? You could fabricate connections with any of the other neighbours but this would not make them worthy of investigation.

QuoteLet's make a white example here (since that's not likely to offend anybody).  A member of the KKK lives in the neighborhood and racial slurs are spray-painted on a [non-white] person's house and the cops are called to find out who did it.  Now, by your (and other's) "logic", because that KKK member has never been convicted of a crime (and might appear to be an upstanding member of the community aside from his connection to the culture of hate that is the KKK) the cops should ignore the fact that he is a member of the KKK and not investigate his possible involvement in the case?  They shouldn't suspect him solely on his connection to the KKK?

No offence Darth, but are you deliberately misunderstanding the point here? You specify the guy in your example as "a member of the KKK" and therefore that is what he is (in your example). How can you specify the neighbour in the situation at hand as a "cat eater"? Being a member of the KKK plainly pins a person's colours to the mast in terms of race, in a way that coming from a country in which some people eat cats does not do in terms of feline cuisine!

If this guy was definitely a "cat eater", legal convictions or no, then your point would, of course, hold water. As there is no meaningful suggestion that he does, other than the vaguest speculation, it does not work.

I used AVG for a good while until about 18 months ago. It just seemed to be slowing everything down so I switched to AVAST (also free) and haven't looked back.

I'm 4 missions in and really enjoying this game, I think i'm already addicted! ;D

Good gameplay, funny dialogue and a great use of the engine, well done!

EDIT: Bug report

Spoiler
On mission 5 at the east side of the island I moved to a square and got a message saying something along the lines of "Bear attack"! and then "Only Joking Ha Ha Ha!" after which the game promptly crashed and ended.  :(

Happened twice so far in the same area (couldn't say if it was the same tile). Trying again now and hopefully will avoid that area where possible!

Another great game in what some are calling the greatest game series ever.

The only other opinion out there is from those who know it is the greatest series ever!

Great work Ponch, lots of fun as always!

+1 for:

Gabriel Knight (all 3)
Shadow of the Comet
Overclocked

Also, if you are interested in a big investigative story, but with a lighter touch, try Broken Sword.

Yes, the world is not a fair place, yes there are poor and rich, yes to everything. And yes I feel damn lucky to have been born under these circumstances... But it remains that every bit of defense on piracy comes down to bullshit!...

Whilst I personally don't sell anything over the interwebs, I have to completely agree about piracy. There is simply no excuse for stealing something that someone else has made. I know people try and dress it up, but theft is what it is pure and simple. I'm sure we've all heard the Piracy arguments, "it doesn't hurt anyone, I wouldn't have bought it anyway", "I can't afford it", "it's overpriced", but none of these justify stealing, be it games, films, music, whatever.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many people will try and defend piracy with no argument stronger than "because I like it".

(Once again none of this is directed at InCreator! ;))

If you're in the mood for something a bit different...

4 Lions.

From the profound and serious to the ridiculous and hilarious in one film about 4 suicide bombers from the midlands. Directed by Chris Morris (The Day Today, Brass Eye etc.) which will likely tell many of you all you need to know.
