Other than England's performance (and my lack of skill at predictions!), this has been a great world cup so far and that USA v Belgium game was really something special. People say that other leagues can't keep up with the pace of the premier league, but I don't think there are many premiership sides who could have kept up with either team last night.

I wish England were still in... I had a 66.6% accuracy of predicting scorelines involving England, compared to a 2.2% accuracy of predicting scorelines not involving them!!!
Whereas my accuracy with them was 0% I think!

Group stage time! At least one benefit to England going out so early is I don't have to make any "head v heart" decisions now. Well, not quite in the same way anyway! ;)

Just a quick silly one.

In another dimension, children's TV was never the same after the TinTin/Barney twins were allowed on air.

Oh btw Stupot - I think your "Wildcard" idea is a good one.

Agree! Maybe even 2 or 3 "jokers" to play to give some of us in "mid-table mediocrity" a glimmer of hope. ;)

Unbelievable result.

Spain outplayed and looking old and tired, all credit to Chile.

Good memories! :-D

I had a 6128 and thus was able to enjoy the immense power of 128k Ram! Many great games, many appalling games and my introduction to programming also. Thank you Lord Sugar!

The old machine is long gone now, but every now or then I fire up an emulator for a quick game of "The Prize" or one of the shocking "Roland" games!

Have you linked the function?

In other words, did you click on the three dots next to "Talk to Hotspot" in the properties pane when editing the room, or did you just type it in to the room script?

Door with a mysterious hole in the middle. The hole leads to a puppet on the other side that the player must use to convince a small child to unlock the door (Child is, of course, heard through the door, but not seen when the door is opened. Spooky!).

Very nice, if I ever finish another game I am stealing that one! ;)

It's an interesting one. I recently upgraded to the S5 but as I was coming from the S3 the improvement is more noticeable. I agree that it is generally much smaller steps now, or less interesting ones like fingerprint scanners.

My main beef is with Google regarding the kitkat update, which I didn't have on the S3. Seriously, let me decide who has access to my external SD.

Given how you have put it in your example, could you not just bypass the animation bool and do this?

Room Load
Code: ags

if(HasPlayerBeenInRoom(17)){ // Church Room already visited
  Button74.NormalGraphic=710; // Church button normalgraphic
  ChurchHelp = 0;
}
else if(!HasPlayerBeenInRoom(17)){ // Church Room not yet visited
  Button74.Animate(17, 1, 4, eRepeat);
  ChurchHelp = 1;
}

I think the Civ series mirrors real civilisation in that however much you like the previous iterations, once the new one is upon you you can't live with the old ones any more and if you try you will face deep disappointment.

I mean everyone knows that units being able to swim across rivers and the sea is cheating but now there is no going back! ;)

Games don't have to be anything in particular. Like art, what sets games apart from other human creations is a mystery, not an objective fact. Social conventions help us using the word “game” in a practical way, but they can't be used to impose gameness.

For my money, this is where that whole way of thinking falls down.

I would think that social conventions are and should be used to imposed "gameness". By way of analogy if I am on a bus it may only be social convention that names it a bus rather than a car and I could try and define my own properties of what a car is which would include the bus. However this approach cannot be valid as it is only social convention that has defined the names and properties in the first place and that is the reference point which must be used.

Questioning whether society is correct in its names and definitions for buses and cars is (aside from being a waste of time) based on an invalid assumption, that cars and buses are entities (or concepts or whatever) in themselves that humanity has described - possibly incorrectly. That assumption is not valid because the cars and buses derive from human creation, naming and definitions (although definitions may be impled rather than express). They are what they are because we have created and defined them through social convention.

Your example of art is a good one for a concept which might be said to be beyond that and a phenomenon that people describe, possibly incorrectly. Other examples would be emotions such as happiness. They were not created by humans but are something experienced by all (comparatively at least) and therefore if we try to define "art" or "happiness" we may well get it wrong.

Games - in terms of video games at least - fall into the bus/car category. They are created by humans and defined by social convention. Therefore social convention is exactly the thing that should (and does in my opinion) impose "gameness" on a suspected game (if I can put it like that).

To try and force a definition outside of this (although theoretically quite interesting) is to say games are a concept in themselves without human creation or control, which they are not in my view.

[/personal opinion]

I'm stuck far too early on in this game.

On the shore of the Thames having just found out I'm contaminated...

Spoiler
I have a piece of coal and the vial of glitter and the press cutting about the rock. I guess I need to make a fake piece of meteorite to get the policeman to go so I can get through the barrier, but combining the glitter and the coal doesn't seem to work and I can't work out what else I need to do...

Hints or outright solution welcome!
