I think it's something like this, with this here UFO, but I'm not absolutely certain.
#442
On second thought:

A is not correct
B is how should the shadows fall
C is how long the shadows are supposed to be

I was wrong.

It's clearly visible from the shadow that the moon isn't in the right place to cast it. And, yes, the lamp should eminate a soft yelowish glow on the pavement, certainly not a spotlight effect there.

To fix the bed, you could lenghten it, along with the room, to the right.

Chip in anything you have while there's still some time left, 'cause the competition ends on the 5th of February at 00:00 straight. The voting starts at 00:01 and lasts 'till the 10th at 00:00.

Please vote on the categories (all three), and I'll count 'em up when the voting period is over. The winner takes the golden trophy, and the rest of the trophies....will be awarded in a *fair* fashion. =P

Thanks, I also think the building looks like it's made of some kind of glass, but I didn't think of moving the sun. That should probably fix it.
#447

The building where Vince lives.

I need to get back on this project, I'm leting it slip =(

On second thought:

The light from the lamp should actually look something like this.

Also, there was an perspective issue (in green) from the building shadow falling on the curb.

Now gimme my cookie =)

#449
Matt, shame on you, weren't you lisening the other day?

The mast shadow is perspectively incorrect. The upper grill on the window also.

As for the lamp...well, Ryan drew a nice halo, and it should (the lamp) make an oval lighted area just beneath with correction to the curb. Also don't forget to light the building a bit, 'cause the lamp is there.

Shame on you, really =P

here's a dirty and quick take on it:

You might wanna delete the black outlines or something to make it look better. I just painted this so you can see which arm and leg goes where and when.
I hope it helps.

Heed the wise, new things are interesting while they're new. So the old times were more interesting, because they had more things for you to discover.
#452
Ok, I dig this. But why is the left upper part of the third window from the left pointy when no other window corners are?
I tried to do a complete re-edit(re-draw the whole scene), but I guess I suck at making curved things.
Hmm...as for the critique/argument/whatever...well do as you wish, it's a matter of taste/preference so it's irelevant(sp).
Heck, I'm doing my game in pure b&w without dihtering and nobody minds(320x240).

Paper drawing and scanning....I tried that. I draw, scan then trace it so I get lines of the same width. I tried vectoring it, but it didn't turn out as well as I wished it to be.
After a while I just sketched on paper, and then added precision/alignment while tracing it. Then just add colours and details.

#453
Damn, I just spent 1 hour trying to come up with something to help you. I failed miserably.
=(
#454
Haha, you missunderstood me. I meant why go hi-res, 'cause it's so much more work than lo-res (more or less).
I still owe you a paintover, errr....I'll be just a minute, I think I left the fridge open...
No, really, I had a busy day today, but I'll make it.
#455
back on track, I see you say this is your first game...so why go hi-res?
#456
I strongly suggest to ditch the gradient, and do it all by hand. Didn't you read what Andail said about gradients up above (his tutorial)? Also, it looks plain because you need to add random clutter around, eg. books, shelves, pictures on the wall etc.

We're hijacking this thread. I'll try to post something in your thread about this BG ( I think you did start one?) by tomorrow.
#457
Haha, that's the spirit =D
#458
Dammit Jide, they're messing with you. Stick it up to them as high as you can! Do another traced image 'cause I bet they'll find something wrong with this one too =P
#459
Ha, I'm a total newb here (more or less), and don't know much my way around. As for the forums...well...they suck. You too suck also. SSH probably sucks the most. Dualnames sucks in a greek fashion. Hm...yes, you all suck. If it weren't for me around here, I'd never visit the forums at all. 'cause I'm so tottaly kewl and rad and phat and cute! And I have a teddy bear!
I like teddy bears.

What can I say, you can all keep sucking untill....nah, you can't ever not suck.

I think your image has too much white, so objects don't have easily visible outlines.

Anyway, here's an example of what I'm trying to tell you:

http://i46.tinypic.com/2epol0p.png

The first one is the original image.
The second one is the image reduced to only 8 colours in GIMP.
On the third you can see how I traced the table, and cleaned up the stray pixels.

Yes, it's still a lot of work, but Gimp gives you the colours (and where to put them) and shapes, and you work from there. Some drawing practice is desirable also. =)
