I will have to hunt down my old copy and give it a try.
Thanks and good luck with the project.

Likewise, I remember the original and would like to see a remake, in the mean time does anyone have any ideas how to get the original running through XP? I have tried Dosbox but I could not seem to get the speed right.

Spoiler
on the spaceship in the main corridor there are two doors that you cannot open, one of these rooms you enter by going under the floor, the second is partly open and needs a little encouragement.

Second hint...

use an item that you may have left elsewhere without realising you can PICK it up again to open the door on the far left of the corridor.

I have just arrived at Tortuga and am really enjoying the game, it brings back great memories of classic Monkey Island.  Pirates of the Carribean and Monkey island intergrate very well.

To all of those stuck on the good ending.....

Spoiler
Remember there was more than one room on the ship that you could not open....

I have now finished both endings and found the good one to be the better.

Thanks Sektor that was really entertaining.

To everyone else, enjoy the good ending.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Reactor 09

Thankyou Bernie
I have just finished the game and I really enjoyed it.
To this end, I am glad that you release it.
The game was not too hard and not too easy and was quite atmospheric.
I finished the game with 50% trust rating and am now entrigued to find out what other endings there are.
I know that you said that you said that you grow tired of long term projects, but would you consider doing a sequel/s in eposodic format?
Thanks once again.

Alliance, may I start by wishing you all the best of luck with your band, is there any Christian/secular bands already out there that you have a similar style to?

Just some ideas (and perhaps contraversial) but...

How about making the hero Jesus on the cross, you could modernise the scene by perhaps making Jesus wear a Gas Mask, combat gear etc.
Instead of having the Cross on the hill at golgotham you could put it on top of a pile of bullet cases/shells. (or even put the cross in a firery crater caused by a mortar attack)
thus these images would combine both your band name and album title

Spoiler Alert
Spoiler
Go back to the market square where you will find a guard blocking access to a side alley, you need to get down this side alley without being seen.Ã,  Is there anything here that you could hide behind as you move? Its all about timing.

Spoiler over.

I finished this game last night, and although I could not class it as a typical or even a traditional style Graphic Adventure.Ã,  It would fall more under the category of interactive fiction.
I compare Dreamfall to the 'choose their fate' feature on the Final Destination 3 DVD where you could change parts of the story, by acting in slightly different ways but overall not effecting the bigger story.
I really enjoyed Dreamfall and would like to see other games follow the same pattern, although at a glance it seemed a little on the short side, I preferred it to the Longest Journey, which seemed too long.
For Example I only started playing Dreamfall on Sunday and finished it yesterday (Thursday). Unlike TLJ (which I got to the stage where I got to the stage where I was using a walkthrough quite often because I had lost track of the storyline and just wanted to finish the game. ) Dreamfall kept the puzzles and story closely intertwined giving characters depth.Ã,
Dreamfall finished on such a cliff hanger that it has left me desparate for more.
As already mentioned I find the puzzle concept similar to Final destination 3, combining this and with quality of the animation of Final Fantasy Advent Children, could Dreamfall be the precursor of a new entertainment genre - interactive movies?Ã,

General Discussion / Re: Disapointment !!!
Sun 29/10/2006 10:39:39
I agree with Sinsin, I felt the game as a whole was disappointing.Ã,  From what I remember the game had very little storyline and concentrated on rather easy puzzles to pull you through.Ã,
Although as already mentioned what story there was deep in atmosphere.Ã,  It was therefore a shame that it was over so quickly.
Perhaps one of the major problems, is that we came to expect too much from Lucasarts based on their previous successes. (This in no way excuses them for axing Sam and Max 2).
I personally put Full Throttle in the category of: great concept but misses its full potential by miles.

Thanks for all your feedback,
I am now conforted by the fact that I was stupid to think of my name as being derogatory.
I can't believe there has been so many replies in such a short period of time.
I must say that Limpingfish you are still my hero too, and that was the case even before you officially retracted one of your statements.Ã,  I am concerned however of your love for the British being greater than your love for the arousal of your genitalia (could not include the term enormous as there is noone to support your claim).
Thanks also to Babar for your words of advice:

There is only one point of importance: Make your game! And since it's your first, don't make it too huge!

I guess I have no excuse now...

Should I change my Profile Name?

As it maybe obvious from my profile name, my name is Jim and I am British.
The name originated about eight years ago when I was a camp counsellor at a summer camp in America and I was the only international staff member there.  As a result I quickly became nicknamed ‘Brit'.  This nickname was accepted with the brotherly love and humour that it was meant to and was certainly not meant to be a racial or derogatory slur.
Summer camp brings back fond and happy memories and it was for that reason that many years ago I adopted the ‘Jimtbrit' handle when playing games, in chat rooms, and forum handles.
More and more recently as I have got older, I have become more and more aware of equality and diversity and political correctness. As a result of this I have become concerned that my profile name could be taken negatively and could cause offence.
I do not consider myself to be racist but can see how my chosen name could be taken out of context.
Although I have not posted that much in this forum for many years  I have been a silent member; reading posts, downloading games and feeling part of the AGS community.
I know that by far I am not a regularly active member of this forum and my game count is still at the less than one status, but long term, something is coming…
I admit that something is still in the very early stages, I have a great story concept that really excites me.  I just know that I currently lack the knowledge/skills in the programming and graphics areas to give the story the great justice it deserves.
But this post is not about that it is to ask you guys for some advice as to whether my profile name causes offence and if so, should I change it?

Moderators: After reading the rules I considered putting this into the ‘Newbies introduce yourselves here!' Thread but due to the sensitivity of this topic, I thought it could easily get overlooked.  I thought that through creating a new thread, it is given the opportunity to be seen by a larger audience to determine the best course of action.

Many thanks in advance
Jim

Pure Genius, both the graphics and storyline teasers you have given us make me wanting more.
This looks very promising and I the story concept is certainly original.

In responce to your concerns:

a: I agree with linus, the graphics used have recaptured the essence of the games that we grown up with and loved, so many games released now are visually stunning but lacking in other areas. The 320x200 really does work here and the higher resolution may make the game seem out of place. Also although I myself cannot draw to save my life, there are plenty of artists out there in these forums alone who I'm sure would be prepared to get on board and give you assistance.

b: How about changing the names to something in a foreign language for example through using an online English - Latin translator, 'Energy' is translated to 'Navitas' giving you the Great House of Navitas. This could help to bring some history to the different houses and give you a nice introduction to the story e.g a long time ago there were a group of scholars who...

c: From reading this post, I am not sure as to wheather this is an individual project by yourself or whether you will be requesting help from others, if you are working alone, I wish you the best of luck and apologise if I have offended you in this post.Ã,  Although if you are prepared to seek for royalty free music then perhaps you could consider asking someone to compose for you, this would allow you to be more specific as to the type of music you require and it would be a shame for the overall product to be spoiled because of some old royalty free music that doesn't work well being put in for the sake of it.

I hope this helps and all the best with the project.

Ok, I have found what the problem is,
when taking an item from the inventory, you must first close the inventory window before using the item on the screen.Ã,  Even if the item you wish to interact with is visible, using the inventory item with it before closing the window will result in the game freezing.

Just finished the game, it is very enjoyable and I found the style of humour could be compared to Emily Enough. Thanks alot Abisso.  Do you think you would follow it up? Perhaps episodic style with another room.  (I Like the concept of all the puzzles being in one room it reminds me of Gobins by Sierra)

Hi, i have just downloaded and started playing, it seems very impressive although I think I have found a bug,

Spoiler
After picking up the shoelace, attempting to throw it onto the piece of iron and then going to the bin and finding the hook, I tried to attach the hook the the rope, then the rope to the hook.Ã,  I then tried to use the shoelace on the mouse at which point the mouse turned away from me and the game froze.
I hope this is enough, I will exit out and try to recreate the problem and give you more information if necessary.

Chicky, its great to know that the project isn't dead.

I like the simplicity of the graphics and think that the colours really fit the style.
Don't worry too much about whether the humor is up to standard, you will find that no matter how great it is there are those which love it and think it works and those which don't.

Remember it is your project and as long as you are happy with it everybody elses opinions are not as important.

Looking forward to playing the game, any idea of a release date?

first insticts being it is Lord of War cross Full Throttle.

Just finished the game and loved it,
I found the difficulty just right and is a great addition to the first two games.
I also think that the use of the text parser really added to the feel that the game was trying to create.Ã,  With 7days being set in the future, and the multiple use of playable flashbacks to the past, having to type commands seemed to be the right choice in my opinion.
Also with the flashbacks being playable rather than movie sequences, there is no problem with trying to pause them.Ã,  I think we have all experienced playing a game and been called away during a video sequence which cannot be paused, only to find that we have to either reload and replay or miss out on some of the storyline.
The suspense was enough to make me jump when my doorbell rang.... ;)
Yahtzee if you are reading this congrats on another sucessful game.

Screenshots look great you seem to have managed to recapture the great atmosphere created with them in the first game.
With KQ4 I associate the awful puzzle inside the whale of trying to climb up.
Have you considered as to whether you will keep this the same or add some variety?
As a suggestion to reach the uvula? ( I think this is correct but forgive me if I am wrong), how about there being objects inside the whale that you can pick up and then stack on top of each other to create a climbable tower. If objects are stacked incorrectly the tower could become unstable and collapse.  This would still posess the trial and error aspect of the original puzzle and the time limit aspect could also be implemented giving a very similar concept to the original puzzle.  But at the same time eliminating the seemingly randomness of the hidden climbing path.
I hope this helps and I look forward to playing the remake.

Some helpful pointers...
Try to exhaust all lines of conversation, you will soon learn which ones progress the game yet there are also others ones which will give you points first. (except for in the hotel - go up to the room first then come back down and ask for the complaints book)
Attempt to look at and touch everything that selects (in some cases clicking on the same item more than once will give multiple responses and multiple points, andf therefore remember that you cannot die and there are therefore no dead ends.Ã,
Once you know what to do to progress the story, let it be the last thing that you do.
Read through the hints for clues on how to get extra points.
Remember that even with getting all the quiz questions right, they are still only worth 200 points, you therefore need to have 800 points before you start the quiz.

I know that some of these pointers are common sense but I hope that they help.

Just finished the game with 1017 points, bu almost missed out on about 30 points
see below for how I found them....

Spoiler
the bathroom doors can be opened more than once for more than one set of points.Ã,  I hope this helps you reach the magic number....
